Advanced Collection Treatment Masks with Foreo UFO 2

FOREO sent me not just the Basic Duo Mask collection to use, but the complete Advanced and Farm to Face Collection Treatment masks for review purposes. RECAP: What is the UFO 2? Let’s step back a bit and talk about sheet masks. As you know, I primarily review K-Beauty (Korean Beauty) skincare products which include facial sheet masks. I believe Japanese brands had facial sheet masks before K-Beauty, but it was the immense popularity of K-beauty that made sheet masking a common skincare step in millions of people’s routines. Facial sheet masks use a material ~ whether it is cotton, tencel, hydrogel, bio-celluose or others, which is soaked in essence, then you apply and leave on this full face mask for about 20-30 minutes on your face, leaving your skin softer, smoother and hydrated. The essence is targeted for a skin concern or skin type and there are thousands of sheet masks out on the market today.

Great News!! FOREO has updated their app and no more scanning masks. They updated it between this review and my Farm to Face review, so I will repeat what I wrote there.

HUGE CHANGES with their latest App upgrade!! No longer do we have to scan in the mask’s bar code to select the treatment. FOREO has provided all of the masks in their app and you choose the one you are using. This is a HUGE improvement. I was saving those mask packages and creating a folder with the bar code, in case I wanted to use the treatment for another mask ~ also, it was a pain to select the mask you were using and THEN have to scan in the bar code. This is so great ~ I love the app is more user friendly and customizable.

There are only 8 programmable areas on the UFO 2 and two of those are already pre-programmed with Make My Day and Call It A Night. You can also create your own custom treatment with a time duration of your choice spanning 90 to 180 seconds and one LED light choice ~ you will chose the gold box with the gear wheel and then select your options. You can still use it manually, making sure that you do not open up and connect the app to your device ~ you just need to remember which LED area has your programmed treatment.

UnboxingBeauty Tip: Take photos of each mask’s barcode and save them. I also clean the package and save those as well ~ in case I accidently delete my photos. I upload the photos to both my iPad and iPhone, as well as keeping them on my PC ~ so I can easily scan them from the FOREO app. The app won’t take a photo from your library, so you have to point the camera at the bar code on the photo and just scan it that way. Why do I do this? I might want to try the program for a regular sheet mask I have ~ I mentioned how you can use a regular, normal thickness cotton/tencel mask with this device in my original UFO 2 review. If I have a mattiying mask, I might like to use the Matte Maniac treatment plan.

Alas, even if you have the mask type programmed into your UFO 2, it STILL asks you for the bar code scan if you use the app ~ FOREO needs to remove that option if you already have it programmed. You can use it manually, making sure that you do not open up and connect the app to your device ~ you just need to remember which LED area has your programmed treatment. There are only 8 programmable areas on the UFO 2 and two of those are already pre-programmed with Make My Day and Call It A Night.

The best way to start the treatment is to get your UFO device set up with the mask inserted before you start the treatment. Just take the clear attachment ring off the UFO, remove the UFO Activated Mask from the packet and then place the mask round on UFO 2’s gold flat surface. Make sure the little tab bit of the mask is over the indent in the UFO 2 device and then snap it back in place. You will need the packet for the app

Just follow the instructions on the app ~ it is pretty easy ~ just need to turn on your UFO 2 and the app will guide you through the instructions ~ you will need to sync your UFO 2 with the app and then it wait while you applied the mask round to the device, if you already haven’t. You will scan the barcode off the packet using your smartphone’s camera. UFO 2 will select the appropriate treatment for the mask and you just let the UFO 2 do its thing. Once you are done, just remove the mask round and rinse the device and ring under water ~ yes, this baby is wrapped in silicone so it is 100% waterproof

You will really feel like you got a mini facial with the UFO 2 device ~ totally different from using just a sheet mask. I feel that this device does help “push” the essence into my skin, making it feel rejuvenated, soft and more “fresh”. All of the Advanced Collection Masks are 2 minutes long, unlike the 90 second Daily Duo Masks. I actually can get 4 minutes out of one treatment ~ along with the pulsations, LED lights, heating and cooling ~ I feel that the essence does penetrate deeper into my skin.

UnboxingBeauty Tip: Getting 2 treatments out of one mask: Each packet has a LOT of essence left in it. Instead of dumping all that essence on the mask round, which is already soaked through, I just wait until the first 2 minutes are over, flip the mask round over and add the essence from the packet onto the round. I then repeat the treatment again.

Aquaxyl will also reinforce your skin barrier function, limiting water loss in your skin and preventing skin dehydration on a cellular level.
- Ceramide are lipids (fats) which are important in helping to repair and protect your moisture barrier. They will keep your skin hydrated and plump as they retain water. Ceramides are found naturally in your body and you lose the ability to produce as you age, so adding them to skincare products helps with anti-aging
- Panthenol and glycerin are humectants, which retains moisture and hydrates the skin. Humectants are also good lubricants for the skin, making skin look soft and smooth.
- Allantoin moisturizes, exfoliates and softens skin, making it look smooth and refined, while reducing and relieving irritation.
Essence: Thin, milky watery essence. I was surprised as many hyaluronic acid masks have a watery clear essence.

Results: This mask treatment really hydrated my skin and it did leave a slight protective barrier film. Not tacky or sticky, this is good for a night time treatment

Youth Junkie provides skin renewal, improving skin’s elasticity, plumping up and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

Key Ingredients
- Collagen deeply moisturizes skin, smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles.
- Vitamin E is the antioxidant star of antioxidants. It provides protection against free radical damage while helping to repair existing damage.
- Triple Oil Complex of shea butter, jojoba oil and olive oil provides rich nourishment to the skin, leaving it soft and smooth.
- Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5 helps to improve the appearance of firmness in skin.
- Tremella fuciformis is a white gelatinous parasitic fungus that has been used in TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) for centuries. It draws water to the skin, just like hyaluronic acid, helping keep your skin hydrated and moist, plumping up fine lines and wrinkles. It is supposed to be 120% more efficient than HA, as its particles are smaller than hyaluronic acid ~ it penetrates your skin better and more easier. Snow fungus is a natural organic alternative to hyaluronic acid. It contains Vitamin D, the sunshine vitamin ~ we need produce it when we get it thru exposure to the sun and also in foods and supplements. Also, snow fungus is an antioxidant, helping combat and reserve free radical damage, including lightening of hyper-pigmentation spots.
Essence: More creamier than Glow Addict and H2Overdose. Very slick and slippery.

Results: I actually liked this one a lot as my skin did feel more toned up and firm. It does leave a sticky residue initially so wait for the dry down. There is a lot of essence in here so this treatment took a bit longer on the dry down than the other mask treatments.

Shimmer Freak is very unique in the collection of masks as it is for your eye area! UnboxingBeauty Tip: I close my eyes while applying the treatment as the round UFO 2 device is too cumbersome and difficult to go around the eye area. Closing my eyes ensures that all of the skin around my eyes gets this treatment.

Key Ingredients
- Caffeine helps reduce puffiness, by stimulating and improving blood circulation
- Vaccinium macrocarpon (Cranberry) fruit is full of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory proprieties, high in anthocyanins that contain 150 flavonoids. Anthocyanins help protect your connective tissue from being damaged by enzymes and they also repair damage. They are full of phytochemicals and antioxidants, which help suppress oxidization and therefore, inhibit the free radical production. Free radicals cause damage and can destroy cells, which leads to premature aging. Not only do these berries help fight free radicals, but they will soothe and condition your skin. They will help increase skin elasticity, making skin more tone and firm. They also have vitamin C and A, both which reverse the skin damage caused by free radicals ~ fine lines, wrinkles, hyper-pigmentation, broken capillaries.
- Synthetic fluorphlogopite provides a pearlized effect when combined with titanium dioxide.
- Titanium dioxide in this formula is used to help brighten up the skin temporality.
Essence: Thin, clearish essence with little shimmer sparkers ~ this is not glitter!! The shimmer is coming from the synthetic fluorphlogopite and titanium dioxide

Results: This is very cooling and refreshing. The pulsations are very gentle and soft. The essence dries down quickly, but my skin around my eyes are still hydrated without any stickiness. I can really see the difference, especially on my upper eye lids as they look very plumped up, and hydrated and the skin is brightened due to the synthetic fluorphlogopite and titanium dioxide in here. This is a great treatment, despite its scent and that it has rose in it ~ my eyes didn’t react to this mask at all. I will repurchase this one.

Results: I was worried that the thick gel would dry down sticky, but it doesn’t ~ this is a very refreshing mask and it does provide a nice matte finish without drying out my skin and minimizing the appearance of my pores.

If you have come this far, thank you for reading! You can see that the FOREO UFO 2 device has quite a few masks in their library and I still have some more to review! I really like the range of the masks so far, as they seem to target just about everything including the eyes. My favorites from the Advanced Collection are Matte Maniac, Shimmer Freak and Youth Junkie as I feel they really do live up to their claims and work best for me. These mask rounds only work with the FOREO UFO system so you do need to purchase one first before getting these masks. My biggest complaint is that even if I have the Mask treatment already downloaded on my UFO, it STILL wants me to scan the barcode. That needs to be fixed ~ as I don’t understand why I have to scan a bar code if I have the treatment plan already loaded. I should also be able to select any treatment plan on the app regardless if I only have 8 programmable areas. Come on, it’s an app ~ it can send that information to the UFO without an issue ~ the only time when I couldn’t access a plan is if I use this manually and then I would still have 8 plans pre-set in my device.

Which brings me to the cost. Yes, this is expensive. The FOREO UFO 2 is $279.00 USD but this is an investment for your skin. How much does it cost for a spa treatment monthly? I am not saying you give up your spa facials, but wouldn’t it be nice to have a daily mini treatment in the convenience of your own home? The UFO 2 was on my list already to purchase during Black Friday, as I was ready to step up my at-home facial treatments. I was just fortunate that Foreo offered it to me for review purposes. This comes with a 2 year warranty, where FOREO will replace the unit free of charge ~ you just need to activate the warranty once you receive it at your FOREO account.

FOREO also has several UFO’s beside the UFO 2, which is the Star of the UFO range. There is a UFO 2 Mini, which cannot use all of the UFO PowerActivated Masks, for $179.00. The old UFO series is also there ~ UFO at $199.00 and UFO mini at $99.00. As I never tried any UFO’s before, I cannot tell you how they would compare to the UFO 2 experience.
