107 Skincare – Renewed and Relaunched!

107 (One O Seven) is a brand that I truly love and have loved from the beginning. They are such a fantastic brand, using naturally fermented vinegar as their key ingredients. 107 is a family owned business and they also run Korea’s largest naturally fermented vinegar brand~ Hanega. Ohk Ran Chung, a pharmacist, developed a specially aged vinegar with 21 oriental herbs which will produce essential amino acids, which helps rejuvenate and purify your skin.

There are 8 essential amino acids in the award winning 107 fermented Hanega vinegar and they are all natural and organic. Our body will easily absorb natural nutrients and these essential amino acids are anti-aging, increase the skin’s tone and elasticity, while healing and strengthening your skin. If you are wondering what 107 stands for, it is their 107 secret formulas which have been in their family for 35 generations.

107 went thru a redesign and slightly reformulated some of their original classics, which is the focus of this review with an addition of a new product in their line up. The skincare packaging has been upgraded to a minimalist look with gradations of pink. The Cuddle Sheet Masks review is here, and I received these products complementary for review purposes from 107 Skincare. 107 does not use mineral oils, SLS/SLES, synthetic dyes or fragrances, formaldehyde and they test their formulas to ensure that there is no 1,4-dioxane contamination, which is a trace element that can be found in skincare. It is considered a human carcinogen, causing irritation to skin. You can read more about it here at the FDA website. 107 is a cruelty free brand and now has recyclable packaging.

107 uses cosmetic grade vinegar that has been naturally fermented for over 7 years and contains 8 essential amino acids, for a total of 17 amino acids, along with glutamic acid and acetic acid. One of the revamps 107 did to the formula was to use vinegar that had been fermented longer, from 5 years to 7 years ~ as the longer it ages, the higher the concentration of postbiotics. Okay, we know what probiotics and prebiotics are, but what are POSTbiotics?

Postbiotic uses the “non-viable bacterial products or metabolic by-products from probiotic bacteria”. * Postbiotics are the by-product from probiotic bacteria fermentation and it isn’t a new type of “biotic”. I have never heard that term before, but examples are peptides, enzymes, polysaccharides, acids ~ such as lactic acid. Vinegar is a natural anti fungal, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory and it will help restore the pH balance to your skin. It contains acetic acid and is known to kill off bacteria and reduce acne. By restoring pH balance to your skin, it will help make your skin inhospitable for bacteria as well, while helping your skin create essential proteins and fatty acids. The vinegar used in these products are from wheat grown in the Gurye region in Korea ~ why is this interesting? The Gurye region grows its wheat completely free of agricultural chemicals and it is processed free from preservatives and bleaches.

CHAGA JELLY Low pH Cleanser is a game changer. I haven’t met one person who has tried this that didn’t love it to bits ~ whether you have dry, oil, combo or sensitive skin, it seems everyone loves this! This product was the one with the least amount of reformulation, which is excellent as it is SO popular. It looks to me that 107 just added the following ingredients to the end of the list: linalool, limonene, sodium chloride, butylene glycol, 1,2-hexanediol and ethylhexylglycerin.

Besides the vinegar, the star of this product is chaga mushroom, which grows on birch trees and it really doesn’t look like a mushroom ~ it looks like the charred remains on a tree. It cannot be harvested by just plucking it off the tree ~ it literally has to be chiseled off without harming the tree so it can be re-harvested many times over. Chaga contains betulin, which is an anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, antiseptic and anti-viral compound. Chaga also contains beta-glucan, which is a moisturizing anti-inflammatory and is a powerful anti-oxidant, helping tone and firm your skin, while maintaining its elasticity. A botanical 10 Complex (chamomile, paper mulberry root, lotus, morus alba bark, apple, camellia, green tea, centella, lingonberry leaf, pine mushroom leaf) is formulated to brighten and refine skin. This has a pH level of about a 5.5± and is vegan.

I love this cleanser ~ I noticed that the scent is not as apparent as the original ~ I have 3 tubes of the original, so I had something to compare it with! But it is a citrus smelling jelly cleanser, a light amber in its shade with green tea leaf bits for mild exfoliation. It has a slick, slippery feel that made me question “Can it foam up?” and this jelly cleanser answered, yes I can. This has a nice gentle lather and I use my Foreo Mini LUNA to build up the foam even more. This leaves my skin clean, feeling smooth & hydrated. A cleanser is a cleanser, I know, but this one is quite special and this is one of my picks from 107 Global.

MICRO DRIZZLE Hydro Toner is a brand new product ~ 107 didn’t have a toner product before and this is nothing like the 107 Rose Vinegar Water. This has several hydrating humectants ~ glycerin, hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid, sodium hyaluronate, sodium acetylated hyaluronate, panthenol and amino acid betaine. The three hyaluronic acids come in both low molecular weight, to penetrate deeply into the skin and high molecular weight, so it hydrates and soothes the surface of your skin.

Allantoin moisturizes, exfoliates and softens skin, making it look smooth and refined, while reducing and relieving irritation as well as moisturizing and soothing beta glucan and grape extracts, a natural source of exfoliating AHA’s. Camellia leaf is an antioxidant, high in catechins, tannins and vitamin C.

The toner has no scent to it and has a pH level of 5. I found that I LOVE this toner quite a bit and use it daily ~ it is an ultimate hydrator without being heavy or oily. I find that I layer it several times and quite enjoy the refreshing and moisturizing effects it has on my skin. I also soak some cotton pads with this toner and just place on my skin when I need some instant hydration. This toner gets a BIG THUMBS up from me!

DEWY GLOW Serum Mist replaces the 107 Core Flex Essential Liquid, which I really enjoyed to help balance the oil/moisture levels in my skin. This only had some minor changes to the formula, but the changes made this product totally different, imho. This still contains aspergillus/saccharomyces/rice ferment, full of amino acids and over a 100 organic acids, saccharides, vitamins, nucleic acids and esters. Fermented rice water helps keep your skin clear and moisturized, while helping to even out your skin tone by reducing hyper-pigmentation. Due to its own natural alcohol content, it is an astringent and also contains antibacterial properties to help control blemishes. Arbutin is known for its brightening properties and will help in reducing the appearance of spots caused by hyper-pigmentation

Adenosine is a yeast derived amino acid and it became popular after it was found to help improve the reduction of wrinkles. Lactobacillus/soymilk ferments is another great ingredient. Fermented ingredients in skin care products are highly moisturizing and also have antibacterial properties, which is why my blemish-prone skin loves it so much. It not only hydrates, but nourishes and protects your skin. This has a pH level of 5.

107 removed the fragrance as the original had a powdery scent, but they added rose to this ~ so now it has a rose scent, which is faint, but I still sneeze. They added castor oil and some fruity antioxidants, like pear, melon and peaches. I found that this reformulation now brings the Core Flex Essential Liquid from a balancing product that worked well with my oily skin to a very dewy rich liquid serum. I think the new formula is better suited for combo/dry to drier skin types or if you love that dewy look. For me, this is the least favorite item of the set and I miss the old formula quite a bit as I felt that worked better for my skin type and needs. Thankfully, 107 created the MICRO DRIZZLE Hydro Toner, so that is what I will use instead of the DEWY GLOW Serum Mist!

EVERYDAY PLUMP Hydro Cream is the reformulation of the 107 Core Flex Hydro Rich Cream, which I didn’t really care for the original, as it was very rich for my skin. However, this reformulation IS one of the BEST ~ I still cannot use it as a daytime cream, but as a night cream, IT IS THE BOMB. It isn’t as dense as the original formula ~ it has a more slippery, lighter gel-cream texture, but still deeply emollient. I don’t know WHAT they did to improve the texture on this cream, as the ingredients list is fairly similar, but it is a vast improvement and I am hitting the bottom of my jar now, as I used it nightly since I received it. My dehydrated oily skin thanks 107 for this reformulation!

So, what I see is that they removed the skin brightening niacinamide and added the fruit and plant extracts: peach, full of skin firming vitamin A , antioxidant brightening vitamin C, skin protecting vitamin E, along with minerals, fatty acids and other antioxidants. Ivy helps keep your skin soft as it is an emollient while anise provides antioxidant and astringent benefits. Vanilla contains catechins, an antioxidant and also provides soothing skincare. Honeydew melon is rich in antioxidant vitamins A and C and will help soothe your skin while pear helps improve skin tone, elasticity and helps balance your skin. It is great for oily skin!

This cream still has sunflower seed oil, a lightweight oil that has a high concentration of anti-oxidant vitamin E. It is known for its hydrating and moisturizing properties and it contains omaga-6 fatty acids. Bacillus/corchorus olitorius leaf ferment is rich in antioxidants, such as vitamin A, C and E, as well as fatty acids and mucilaginous polysaccharides. These antioxidants help combat free radicals and the damage they do to our skin. They will work together to increase cellular turnover, stimulate skin cell production and remove oxidizing agents which are so damaging to our skin. It helps keep your skin soft and smooth.

More ferments with ginseng, lactobacillus/panax ginseng root ferment is used in anti-aging skin care products, as it is can stimulate the skin and activate the blood flow, which will increase toning and production of new skin cells. It also has anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, due to natural carbohydrate called saponin, and will help reverse damage caused by free radicals, such as hyper-pigmentation and also combat free radicals to prevent new skin damage of fine lines and wrinkles. Fermented pomegranate helps promote collagen production to help skin become firm and hydrated. Pomegranate also is an antioxidant with a rich source of vitamin C, which also aids in collagen production, while brightening and evening out skin tones.

Jojoba oil is both a moisturizing and skin softening emollient oil and is used in many skin care products. It helps skin cells attract and keep moisturize and it helps penetrate your skin easily, aiding in your skin’s increased flexibility and elasticity. Squalane is a vegan lipid that helps prevent your skin from water loss and improves skin tone, elasticity and moisture. Anti-inflammatory panthenol helps cellular renewal and is an effective moisturizer, as it retains moisture and hydrates the skin. It also is a good lubricant on the skin, making skin look soft and smooth.

Trehalose will help supply moisture and balance your skin. Beta-glucan helps stimulate the production of collagen, speeds up wound healing, soothes and calms skin due to its anti-irritant and strong anti-inflammatory properties, moisturizes, locks in natural moisture, anti-aging and anti-wrinkle due to its anti-oxidant properties and also helps repair your moisture barrier.

This is so silky and smooth, with a beautiful gel-cream texture and light pleasant scent. It melts into my skin, turning from a cream to gel to a watery lotion and it is not greasy or sticky, but I do feel the protective film barrier on my face. I use this at night after I apply my tret ~ yep, I am on Curology now ~ and my skin has not flaked, had redness or dryness since I have been using this. My skin is still soft and not thirsty in the morning. If I skip this step, my skin feels very dehydrated and OILY in the morning.

Final Thoughts

One item I am missing is the 107 Core Flex Cream Essence, which I loved so much, but 107 is going to release that one soon, so I hope they will keep to the old formula as much as possible! So, how did this compare to the old lineup? The cleanser didn’t change that much, so if you loved the old formula, you will love this one too. The MIRCO DRIZZLE Hydro Toner is a brand new item and it is already my second favorite item after the CHAGA JELLY Low pH Cleanser. To my surprise, my opinion towards two of the products changed ~ I went from loving the original Core Flex Essential Liquid for my skin type to feeling that the DEWY GLOW Serum Mist is more suited for drier skin types than myself. BUT I went from disliking the Core Flex Hydro Rich Cream to LOVING the EVERYDAY PLUMP Rich Cream ~ even though the formulas on both of these products didn’t change by much, it was enough for my skin to notice.
