Peter Thomas Roth Mask-A-Holic Review

I love wash off masks and am pleased to have been able to try out some of Peter Thomas Roth’s best selling masks, courtesy of Peter Thomas Roth and Brandbacker I have tried a couple of the Peter Thomas Roth masks before but several of these I have never tried or never had more than a small sample. The Mask-A-Holic collection, which is exclusive to Sephora, contains four of PTR’s best selling masks plus 24K Gold Pure Luxury Lift & Firm Hydra-Gel Eye Patches.

Irish Moor Mud Purifying Black Mask I’ve used this before and I didn’t have a good feeling with it in the past, as I found out that it was too much for my skin. However, I decided to give this another try, but only as a spot treatment on my extra oily bits. I love a good mud mask, and who doesn’t love the romantic notion of smearing Irish peat mud on their face? Come on! This mask is very rich and pudding-like in texture and is a deep dark black mud mask, containing not only peat, but charcoal, lava powder and hijiki seaweed to help detox, remove dirt and excess oil and purify all at the same time. It doesn’t have an odor and it goes on smoothly. This also contains AHA lactic acid in it, so it will help refine your skin texture while removing dead skin cells from the top layer of your skin.

When the mask is on, I don’t feel uncomfortable and I do not have any reactions to it. You are only supposed to leave on for a maximum of 10 minutes ~ this mask will not dry down and if you have sensitive skin, you will not want to leave it on for a long time. I found that by just limiting where I put it (nose, part of forehead and chin), my skin did not get beet red when I rinsed it off. This time around, I did like the effects of how it cleaned out the gunk in my pores while removing excess oil. A little goes a long way and I didn’t need to leave on for a long time.

Pumpkin Enzyme Mask Enzymatic Dermal Resurfacer I LOVE pumpkin masks and after using this several times, I have to say this is now one of my favorite wash off pumpkin masks to use. This is a brightening mask that will also physically and chemically resurface your skin, refining the texture and removing debris and excess oil. The AHA will help gently exfoliate your skin, removing dead skin cells from the surface of your skin, while aluminum oxide crystals are the physical exfoliation, polishing your skin. Pumpkin is full of vitamins, amino acids, antioxidants, nutrients and enzymes and will also exfoliate your skin to help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, hyper-pigmentation and will soften skin. This orange-y product, that smells like pumpkin pie and this does start to tingle as the pumpkin enzymes start to work to dissolve dead skin cells and oil. To use, you massage gently on your face and then leave on for no more than 7 minutes and rinse off with warm water. I did notice that my skin felt smoother, my pores cleaner and my face looked more bright and healthy, once the initial pinkness went away ~ if you have sensitive skin, you will want to keep this on for about 3 minutes, not 7.

Cucumber Gel Mask Extreme De-Tox Hydrator This is another favorite in this set ~ I used this mask after the Irish Moor Mud Purifying Black Mask and Pumpkin Enzyme Mask Enzymatic Dermal Resurfacer, as this is the soothing care that I need. This green goo is so refreshing and hydrating, while calming my skin down ~ you can use it whenever your skin is tired, hot and just needs to be refreshed too! This has AHA’s in it as well, so it will help remove dead skin cells, while papaya and pineapple have natural enzymes that will help smooth and soften your skin. But the two big ingredients are cucumber and aloe vera ~ cucumber helps to regulate the water and oil level of the skin to prevent appearance of blemishes while aloe vera contains over 200 active components including vitamins, minerals, amino acids, enzymes and fatty acids. It helps repair collagen and elastin, and is packed with emollients that help soften and soothe the skin.

This doesn’t have a scent to it that I can tell, but it is very refreshing and cooling ~ I leave my jar in the frig, so it is even more cooling on my skin. You can use it as a wash off mask ~ I apply a thick layer and let it sit on my skin for about 10 minutes and rinse off. My skin feels very hydrated and supple when I use it that way, but I prefer to use it as an overnight skin care hydrator as well. I just apply a thin layer on my face and leave it on overnight ~ it isn’t sticky at all and my pores look a lot smaller in the morning, any blemishes I have are lessened in appearance, my face isn’t as oily and my skin is hydrated. Use this under your eyes as well for a nice quick depuffing trick. It is very versatile!

The next two items were not that great for me…. 24K Gold Mask Pure Luxury Lift & Firm Mask is supposed to leave my skin firmer, smoother and more radiant while reducing fine lines and wrinkles. It has gold it in, which is “supposed” to have anti-aging benefits (firm, lift, brighten, glow) and it also has caffeine for toning and depuffing. This doesn’t have much of a scent to it and it is very shiny and gold ~ I feel like C-3PO when I wear it ~ apply a thick layer and leave on for 20 to 30 minutes, rinse off. It is very thick, slimy and hard to wash off and I didn’t notice any benefits from this mask other than hydrating. This might be a fantastic mask for those with thin, dry skin ~ but I have thick, oily skin, so I didn’t see any dramatic results at all. It is great for taking a pic for the ‘gram though!

24K Gold Pure Luxury Lift & Firm Hydra-Gel Eye Patches are supposed to help improve the appearance of fine lines, crow’s feet (laugh lines) and puffiness ~ I guess I am used to the really juicy Korean eye gel patches as I found these to be quite dry; but they still slid down my face ~ lol. I didn’t find any benefits using these ~ they didn’t depuff, didn’t hydrate, didn’t do much of anything and were a bitter disappointment for me. Honestly, you can get better eye gel patches for $30.00 or under from Korean brands. These are not worth $75.00 at all. It does get rave reviews at Sephora, but I question if those reviewers ever tried an gel eye patch before.

Final Thoughts

Despite 2 of the 5 products not really doing much for me, the other 3 items ~ Cucumber Gel Mask Extreme De-Tox Hydrator, Irish Moor Mud Purifying Black Mask and Pumpkin Enzyme Mask Enzymatic Dermal Resurfacer ~ make this kit a great purchase at $75.00. I truly love the Cuc and Pumpkin masks and the Irish Moor mask grew on me once I used it appropriately for my skin type. The Cucumber mask is full size and retails for $52.00, the Irish Moor is valued at $19.00 and the Pumpkin is valued at $19.00 as well, so right there, that is a $90.00 retail value. Add in the the 24K items ~ mask is $27.00 and the eye gels are $37.00 and this kit is really a great deal.
