This is a long overdue review! From Japanese brand powerhouse, BCL, I am reviewing several of their Momo Puri skincare products. I discovered this line a few years ago and Kirei Station has been my go-to online shop to get my Peach (momo in Japanese) fix. Kirei Station is located in Japan and they carry so many great Japanese brands ~ they also can fulfill requests too ~ I always ask them about new releases and they normally get them in the store! Kirei Station sent me one of their latest releases, Momo Puri Moisture Sleeping Jelly Cool and all of the other items have been ones I have purchased over the last couple of years.
I received some products complementary to review and was not paid. All reviews are my own honest opinion and I never have been asked to write copy for a brand. This blog post might contain promo codes, affiliate and referral links, which using my links will help generate a small commission that helps support my blog at no extra cost to you.
Skin Type/Concerns: Oily, blemish prone, aging, hyper-pigmentation, fine lines/wrinkles, pores
Key Ingredients
Momo Puri is a skincare line that contains peach derived ceramides and lactobacillus. Ceramides are lipids (fats) which are important in helping to repair and protect your moisture barrier. They will keep your skin hydrated and plump as they retain water. Ceramides are found naturally in your body and you lose the ability to produce as you age, so adding them to skincare products helps with anti-aging. The Momo Puri line uses peaches grown in Nagano and derives the ceramides from the pulp and skin ~ phytosteryl glucoside/glucosylceramide. Fermented probiotic lactic acid bacterial strain, enterococcus faecalis (aka lactobacillus E-12), is highly moisturizing, plumping up skin and also has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, which is why my blemish-prone skin loves it so much.
Other good stuff that is in the Momo Puri line ~ hydrating hyaluronic acid will attract and bind moisture to your skin, antioxidant ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate ~ a non-irritating form of vitamin C. Ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate helps with brightening the skin, prevent and heal blemishes and it will not exfoliate the skin, so it can be used in high doses and will not oxidize quickly. It also works with vitamin E, another ingredient in here ~ vitamin E is an antioxidant that will help combat free radicals and reverse their damage.
What is surprising is that retinyl palmitate is in this skincare line ~ along with the vitamin C. Normally you do not see these two ingredients together, but I assume it is because ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate is non-irritating and non-exfoliating. When applied to your skin, the enzymes on your skin will convert retinyl palmitate to retinol, which helps with the growth of new skin cells, prevents blemishes and improves your skin tone. All of the products also contain bergamot fruit extract, not oil. Bergamot has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, which makes it good for skin healing and blemish preventing.
This line smells like PEACHES too. They all have added fragrance, but hot damn, BCL really made it a mouthwatering, juicy peach scent.
Moisture Sleeping Jelly Cool is perfect for my overheated skin ~ whether it is too hot inside as I can’t seem to regulate my body temperature or in the summer time. This is, alas, a limited edition item, but I am hoping it will be released every summer. This is a lovely clear gelly with little beads of cooling stuff. Along with the key ingredients, this also has more hydrating ingredients ~ maltitol helps bind moisture to your skin, while powerful antioxidant albizia julibrissin is reported to protect your skin against glycation. What is glycation? It is a process that causes your skin to lose its elasticity, collagen and suppleness as you get older.
This also has antioxidant, emollient squalane in it, to help reverse dryness while drawing in moisture, emollient rich corn oil will keep everything locked in and cyanocobalamin, a man-made form of vitamin B12, which helps with skin issues, such as eczema while soothing and moisturizing. This does have alcohol high on the list, but with all of these hydrating and emollient ingredients, I am not too worried about it. The alcohol is what prevents this from being too sticky and along with the menthol, gives it its cooling sensation. This is not vegan, as it contains beeswax.
The gelly is just wonderful, so clear, with the white dots in it that dissolved once I apply this on my face. It smells wonderful and it is so refreshing, so cooling on the skin. The Japanese sleeping packs that I have used have been more lightweight than Korean ones ~ they are like this gelly, so I make sure that I have applied a nice moisturizing layer of a non pore-clogging oil or cream before topping it off with this peach cooling gelly.
Did my skin brighten up? No, but my skin didn’t dry out either when I woke up. This gelly sinks into my skin as I sleep, so all of the hydrating goodness is reflected on my face in the morning ~ without clogging my pores and actually helping clear up blemishes. I will purchase this again in the summertime! Now, if you have dry skin, you might not like this, so the next product I will review can be used as sleep pack too.
Ingredients: water, butylene glycol, glycerin, maltitol, alcohol, pentaerythrityl tetraethylhexanoate, enterococcus faecalis, zea mays (corn) oil, squalane, ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate, albizia julibrissin bark extract, retinyl palmitate, sodium hyaluronate, phytosteryl glucoside/glucosylceramide, citrus aurantium bergamia (bergamot) fruit extract, prunus persica (peach) leaf extract, thymus serpyllum extract, PEG-240/HDI copolymer bis-decyltetradeceth-20 ether, polyglyceryl-2 isostearate/dimer dilinoleate copolymer, PEG-150, PEG-400, sodium oleate, carbomer, beeswax, menthol, polyglyceryl-5 laurate, potassium hydroxide, hydrogenated rapeseed alcohol, oxybenzone-4, tocoperohol, phenoxyethanol, methylparaben, fragrance, cyanocobalamin cosDNA
Moisture Gel Cream is a nice hybrid of a gelly and a cream ~ it is thicker in its texture than the Sleeping Jelly. This was one of the first products I purchased in the Momo Puri line and I used this as a night time moisturizer. This pretty much contains the key ingredient along with moisturizing squalane and amino acid arginine promotes healing and detoxes your skin. It also helps guard against the formation of wrinkles and loss of skin firmness.
Silica is a crucial item when it comes to your skin’s connective tissue, collagen. By stimulating certain cells, silica helps strengthen your collagen and elastin, which in turn will help firm and tone your skin and plump up your skin, so fine lines and wrinkles are not as noticeable. This also has dimethicone in here, accounting for its slippery feeling ~ dimethicone helps provide moisture and a silky smooth texture while creating a protective film/barrier on your skin. This also has soothing and moisturizing cyanocobalamin, which accounts for the pale pink shade of this gel-cream as well.
This was heavier in texture than the sleeping pack but it was not pore clogging at all. I would recommend this for dehydrated skin types as a sleep pack and if you have dry skin, you can use this as a day time moisturizer as well. For my oily skin, I felt this was a bit too moisturizing during the summer as a day cream, but I was able to use this when the weather turned cold and bitter. Hydrated and clear skin ~ that is the name of the game with Momo Puri
Ingredients: water, dimethicone, methyl gluceth-10, pentylene glycol, glycerin, diglycerin, butylene glycol, squalane, arginine, enterococcus faecalis, zea mays (corn) oil, ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate, tocopherol, retinyl palmitate, sodium hyaluronate, phytosteryl glucoside/glucosylceramide, citrus aurantium bergamia (bergamot) fruit extract, prunus persica (peach) leaf extract, hydroxyethyl acrylate/sodium acryloyldimethyl taurate copolymer, acrylates/C10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, sorbitan isostearate, tetrasodium EDTA, sodium oleate, silica, polysorbate 60, polyglyceryl-5 laurate, phenoxethanol, fragrance, cyanocobalamin, iron oxides cosDNA
Moisture Lotion is one of 3 lotions that Momo Puri creates ~ this is the original, plus they have a Concentrated Lotion and Milk Lotion. Lotion is just how Japanese brands market their toners, so this is a watery toner with the key ingredients of peach ceramides and probiotics. This also has hydrating glycerin, amino acid arginine and prebiotic xylitol. Xylitol is a sugar alcohol that hydrates your skin as it is a humectant. This also has phytic acid, which exfoliates and brightens your skin, helping to clear your skin and provide skin radiance.
Again, such a lovely peach scent ~ this is watery and absorbs quickly into my skin, leaving it hydrated. This has a pH level of 5 so it is sub acidic and good for your skin.
Ingredients: water, dipropylene glycol, glycerin, PEG/PPG/polybutylene glycol-8/5/3 glycerin, arginine, enterococcus faecalis, zea mays (corn) oil, ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate, tocopherol, retinyl palmitate, sodium hyaluronate, phytosteryl glucoside/glucosylceramide, citrus aurantium bergamia (bergamot) fruit extract, methyl gluceth-20, prunus persica (peach) leaf extract, silver oxide, butylene glycol, glycereth-25 PCA isostearate, sodium oleate, xanthan gum, xylitol, citric acid, sodium citrate, phytic acid, polyglyceryl-5 laurate, fragrance cosDNA
Momo Puri has several variations of facial sheet masks and I am reviewing two of them here. Both masks are soaked in a rich gelly essence, that smells like peaches. The sheet mask material is made of a thicker but not TOO thick cellulose, has a bit of a stretch and fits fairly well on my face except around the eyes, which were a little small. They both contain the signature blend of peach ceramides and probiotic lactobacillus, hyaluronic acid, vitamins A, C and E as well as peach leaf and bergamot fruit extracts.
Milk Jelly Mask also contains tremella fuciformis (snow fungus) polysaccharide which is the extract of the white gelatinous parasitic fungus that has been used in TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) for centuries, as well as for culinary dishes. It draws water to the skin, just like hyaluronic acid, helping keep your skin hydrated and moist, plumping up fine lines and wrinkles. It is supposed to be 120% more efficient than HA, as its particles are smaller than hyaluronic acid ~ it penetrates your skin better and more easier. Snow fungus is a natural organic alternative to hyaluronic acid. It contains Vitamin D, the sunshine vitamin ~ we need produce it when we get it thru exposure to the sun and also in foods and supplements. Also, snow fungus is an antioxidant, helping combat and reserve free radical damage, including lightening of hyper-pigmentation spots. This mask essence has a thicker gel texture that is slightly opaque. I was able to leave this mask on for 40 minutes and my skin felt refreshed afterwards. There is an initial tackiness but after a few minutes, the sticky feeling was gone and my skin felt bouncy, firm and supple.
Ingredients: water, butylene glycol, glycerin, PPG-10 methyl glucose ether, enterococcus faecalis, tremella fuciformis polysaccharide, squalane, ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate, tocopherol, retinyl palmitate, panthenol, sodium hyaluronate, arachis hypogaea (peanut) oil, phytosteryl glucoside/glucosylceramide, citrus aurantium bergamia (bergamot) fruit extract, maltitol, prunus persica (peach) leaf extract,phytosteryl/octyldodecyl lauroyl glutamate, acrylates/C10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, polyglyceryl-10 isostearate, sodium oleate, xanthan gum, sorbitol, polyglyceryl-5 laurate, potassium hydroxide, hydrogenated lecithin, disodium EDTA, phenoxyethanol, methylparaben, fragrance, cyanocobalamin cosDNA
Cool Jelly Mask is a limited edition for the summer time as it is a cooling mask. The essence is a sorbet-like thick jelly and the mask is saturated with it. The cooling action comes from the menthol and alcohol in this sheet mask, but this has such nice hydrating and moisturizing ingredients with glycerin, panthenol, sodium hyaluronate, peanut oil and biosaccharide gum-1, so that it doesn’t dry out the skin. This does have a cooling effect, but it is not freezing ~ I like to store these masks in the refrigerator to get more cooling action, as I could use it.
The mask has little cross hatches on it and holds onto the essence nicely. It adheres to my face well and my skin immediately starts to cool down. After 40 minutes, I removed the mask and my skin still feels so cool and looks refreshed. My skin is supple and this does have a “tightening” effect on the pores.
Ingredients: water, glycerin, butylene glycol, alcohol, enterococcus faecalis, squalane, ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate, tocopherol, retinyl palmitate, panthenol, sodium hyaluronate, arachis hypogaea (peanut) oil, biosaccharide gum-1, phytosteryl glucoside/glucosylceramide, citrus aurantium bergamia (bergamot) fruit extract, prunus persica (peach) leaf extract, acrylates/C10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, polyglyceryl-10 isostearate, sodium oleate, xanthan gum, diglycerin, bis-ethoxydiglycol cyclohexane 1,4-dicarboxylate, menthol, polyglyceryl-5 laurate, potassium hydroxide, hydrogenated lecithin, disodium EDTA, methylparaben, fragrance, cyanocobalamin cosDNA
Final Thoughts
This is a lightweight hydrating line of skincare that keeps blemishes in check AND THE SCENT ALONE IS WORTH IT. As far as repeat purchases, I would purchase the Sleep Pack, Lotion and Cooling Mask. The gel-cream is really nice and I do recommend it for normal to dry and dehydrated skin types. I still have a few more products in this line to review ~ Serum Pods, Enrich Clear Milky Serum Mask, Original Jelly Mask and the Concentrated Lotion, so I need to start using those!
