Skin Type/Concerns: Oily, blemish prone, pores, aging skin with hyper-pigmentation and fine lines/wrinkles
Hair Concerns: Oily scalp, Oily hair, flat, limp, straight, no volume
Key Ingredients
Kaolin is a white clay that helps remove dirt and debris on your skin, while absorbing excess oil and reducing shine. Kaolin is very good for oily and blemish-prone skin. Montmorillonite, also known as French blue clay, absorbs excess oil, toxins and other impurities from your skin, while helping to tone your skin and help reduce the appearance of your pores. It is one of the best clay’s for detoxification.
Ionic clay minerals from pure calcium montmorillonite clay contains more than 57 trace minerals. This ingredient helps remove excess oils and debris by gently exfoliating. The ionic clay minerals can dissolve product buildup, while adding moisture and nutrients
Look at these textures!!
As I have oily scalp and hair while using a lot of haircare products, I need products to not only remove product buildup, but to help remove excess oil and dirt on my hair.
Clarifying Shampoo Lemon Mint (16 oz $15.00/2 oz $3.00) is a clarifying and purifying shampoo product, that not only removes product buildup but removes excess, follicle-clogging oils and dirt. It does not contain any sulfates and uses herbal ingredients to provide a stimulating, hydrating and detoxing treatment cleanse WITHOUT fading color treated hair. This has ionic clay minerals that will exfoliate, remove excess oils and dirt, while dissolving product buildup. Spearmint, lemon and lemongrass oils provide antibacterial, antiseptic, antioxidant and astringent benefits to help reduce dandruff, stimulate the scalp for better circulation and hair growth, while reducing inflammation.
Soothing chamomile and calendula helps provide anti-inflammatory and hydrating benefit, while humectants glycerin and panthenol help to restore shine and softness while strengthening hair for less breakage. Aloe and cucumber are refreshing and hydrating ingredients as well, full of minerals, vitamins to help repair and condition hair. I only received the deluxe sample and I wish it had been full sized as this is my favorite product from all of the items I tried from Zion Health. It has a very refreshing spearmint and lemony scent to it, lathers up nicely and my hair feels thicker and fuller after I use it. It has been a real treat to use this during the summertime as it also cools down my scalp. This is one item I totally recommend for oily hair/oily scalp as it not only provides results, but is an olfactory delight as well.
Ingredients: Purified Water, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate, Glycol Stearate, Glycerin, Starch Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Spearmint Oil, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Panthenol, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Chamomilla Recutita (Chamomile) Flower Extract, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Extract, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Essential Oil, Caramel Color, Ionic Clay Minerals, Cymbopogon Citratus (Lemongrass) Oil cosDNA
Out of the two detox hair care products, I really loved the Deep Cleansing Scalp & Hair Scrub Green Apple with Sea Salt (4 oz $18.00) ~ this has a nice fresh scent to it and it has a liquidy scrubby texture to it. Of course, this does include exfoliating, healing and detoxing ionic clay minerals, along with argan oil, which helps your hair be strong and silky, without being greasy. It deeply moisturizes your hair without clogging your hair follicles and is chock full of antioxidants that not only promote hair health, but prevent color fading. This has biotin, vitamin B7, which is a necessary ingredient for healthy hair and reduces hair loss and breakage. The sea salt contains essential minerals that will help with hair growth, while it physically exfoliates and unclogs hair follicles so your scalp can produce new hair.
Nourishing coconut oil with fatty acids, vitamins and minerals, support and balance your scalp while its antibacterial benefits help prevent infections while cleansing. Vitamin rich mangosteen is a powerful antioxidant and protects your scalp from free radical damage, while restoring your scalp back to health.
To use, just apply to your clean hair – it must be wet or damp. Then massage your scalp, working the product all the way down to the end of your hair and then rinse ~ this does have a gentle foaming action and it really smells like green apples. This sea salt scrub reminds me A LOT of a very expensive version sold at Sephora. This does work just as well and better, as it doesn’t leave my hair feeling straw like and dry. If you don’t like Green Apple scent, they do have Pear Blossom and Vanilla Coconut versions or you could buy all three in a trio bundle for $50.00
Ingredients: Sodium Chloride (Salt), Sea Salt, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Glyceryl Stearate, Decyl Polyglucose, Phenoxyethanol, Biotin, Argania Spinosa Kernel (Argan) Oil, Vitamin E, Panthenol, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf (Aloe Vera) Gel, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Ionic Clay Minerals, Sodium Citrate, Xanthan Gum, Caprylyl Glycol, Mangosteen Powder, Green Apple Fragrance cosDNA
Apple Cider Vinegar Foaming Scalp Detox (7oz. $18.00) This foamy product is made with apple cider vinegar, which helps balance hair and scalp’s pH level ~ in doing do, this helps close the hair cuticle, resulting in smoother hair with less breakage ~ less frizzy and more shine! This also contains PhytocellTec apple stem cells, which help against premature hair aging and hair loss. Witch hazel is a soothing astringent that also is an anti-inflammatory and removes excess oils. Salicylic acid is a BHA that dissolves excess oil, dead skin cells and debris in your hair follicles and scalp, so it helps remove any flakiness and promotes good hair growth. This also has collagen boosting saw palmetto oil, humectants glycerin and panthenol, along with amino acid L-carnitine to help increase hair growth.
This has a fresh scent ~ no vinegar scent here! ~ and comes out very foamy. However it turns watery as I massage it into my wet hair and I use a lot more than I probably should. Leave in for up to 10 minutes and then wash your hair as usual. I really didn’t see a lot of immediate benefits with this product as I think I got more of this on my hair than on my scalp. I think that this should be a liquid with a pointed nozzle so I can apply it directly to my scalp in sections. The foam is a nice idea but I think for this type of product, it is not the best delivery system for a scalp treatment.
Ingredients: Purified Water, Glycerin, Apple Cider Vinegar, PhytocellTec Apple Stem Cells, Sorbitan Oleate Decyl Glucoside, Saw Palmetto Oil, Witch Hazel, Salicylic Acid Solution, DL-Panthenol, Cucumber Extract, Calendula Extract, Caprylic Capric Triglyceride, Alpha Lipioc Acid, L-Carnitine, Cucumber Fragrance, Benzyalcohol-DHA, Ionic Clay Minerals cosDNA
Glycolic Acid Mask – Anti-Wrinkle Treatment (4 oz $20.00) – Zion Health has lots of face masks, from creamy moisturizing ones to pore care and then this one ~ an acid mask. So, even if you have dry skin and are afraid of clay masks, check out their other offerings for facial wash off masks. This has two clays in it, kaolin and montmorillonite along with botanical antioxidant green tea, natural exfoliating papaya which contains exfoliating enzyme papain, anti-aging peptides to hydrate and help build collagen, antibacterial thyme along with detoxing activated charcoal which helps absorb excess oils. This has olive oil and glycerin to ensure it isn’t a drying mask.
The mask name only mentions glycolic acid, but there are three acids in here ~ AHA glycolic acid and lactic acid along with BHA salicylic acid. . Sugar derived glycolic acid is the strongest out of the AHA’s and lactic acid is normally derived from dairy products. These are exfoliating water soluble acids that will work on the top layers of your skin, whisking away dead skin cells to expose new skin. AHA will help improve your skin texture, elasticity and provide firming and brightening benefits. AHA’s will also attract water to your skin and retain the moisture, so it is very hydrating. It is also hydrophilic (attracts water molecules) and helps skin retain more water and feel bouncy and hydrated. AHA exfoliates the top layers of skin by breaking the bonds between outer layer skin cells, sloughs off dead skin and reveals new undamaged skin underneath. BHA salicylic acid helps combats acne, by gently exfoliating your skin and removing dead skin cells and excess oil. Salicylic acid is fat soluble, so it can really get to the oil that is inside your pores. There is no percentage for the AHA or BHA, so I didn’t bother with a pH test to decide how strong the acids are in this mask.
This clay mask is very thick and paste like ~ yet it is easy enough to apply as it is creamy. The scent is … clay.. hahaha. There is not strong fragrance with this at all. This is very cooling on my skin, with no burning or itchiness as it dries down. I left it on for about 15 minutes and rinsed off in the shower ~ TIP: I always do my masks prior to my shower, as I find it much more easier to remove them. Did my skin look brighter? No, but I did feel that this clay mask made my skin feel smoother and softer. It is also very cleansing as well, helping to remove dead skin cells, excess oil and debris, so my pores look smaller in appearance. This mask can be used weekly without issues. This is another favorite for me from Zion Health.

ClayBrite Toothpaste for Superior Gum Health (4 oz $8.00) ~ how exciting! A mineral-rich, clay based toothpaste and it doesn’t taste like clay! (yes a clay based toothpaste!!) This is a fluoride free toothpaste, so please keep that in mind if you are looking for one with fluoride. I alternate between this toothpaste and my good old handy standbye of Sensodyne. This contains antibacterial peppermint and spearmint which not only helps with preventing bad breath, but studies have show that they are super useful to help prevent and treat gum disease. Please note ~ I am not a dentist, so talk to your dentist about the benefits of this toothpaste.
Baking soda has been used for over a hundred years in commercially made toothpastes, but their history in tooth powders might be longer than that. Baking soda helps to whiten teeth while creating an oral pH level that helps promote re-mineralization on your tooth’s enamel. Baking soda also helps remove plaque. Ionic clay minerals are in here to help cleanse, heal, restores oral acidity and brightens teeth without damaging the tooth enamel. This also has anti-inflammatory aloe vera to help remove bacteria that can cause cavities, stevia leaf adds a bit of sweetness without causing tooth decay and zinc citrate helps with tarter and plaque buildup while preventing bleeding gums.
This is a lovely olive green color in a thick paste. The flavor is refreshing and minty, doesn’t taste like clay at all! It foams up nicely and my teeth are sparkling clean without feeling irritated. For those looking for an natural toothpaste without fluoride, I really recommend this one ~ Oral care is so important and having a good tasting and pleasant toothpaste promotes frequent brushing!
Ingredients: Sorbitol, Sodium Bicarbonate, Calcium Montmorillonite Clay, Hydrated Silica, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate (coconut-derived), Sodium CMC (Carboxymethyl Cellulose), Sodium Ascorbate, Stevia Extract, Aqua (Purified Water), Glycerin, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Aloe Vera Gel, Menthol Crystals, Potassium Sorbate, Peppermint Oil, Spearmint Oil, Sodium Benzoate, Calcium Ascorbate, Boron Citrate, Zinc Citrate cosDNA
Feet Treat Extreme with Natural Cinnamon Oil ~ I love this foot cream! It’s actually more like a lotion, but it provides great moisturize while protecting your feet from bacteria and fungus. Tamanu oil is the top ingredient, so I was worried that this might have a strong pungent scent ~ I actually like tamanu’s scent, but many people are turned off. However, I think the addition of the cinnamon oil negated the scent of tamanu as this really has a lovely very faint spice-like scent to it. It doesn’t even smell like cinnamon either (much to my sadness).
Tamanu oil is a sticky, thick and rich oil, with a strong, pungent herbaceous scent. Tamanu oil helps promote new skin tissue growth, which speeds up wound healing. Tamanu oil is a powerhouse ~it contains fatty acids to help lock in moisture ~ oleic (omega-9), palmitic, linoleic, linolenic and stearic. It is not only an anti-bacterial, it is an antioxidant, antibiotic (lactone compound) and anti-inflammatory (calophyllolide and coumarin compounds). These compounds make it a powerful healing oil. Cinnamon oil helps boosts circulation along with having anti-inflammatory properties, so it will help soothe, reduce swelling and redness and will also moisturize your skin. As cinnamon has tannis, it is also an astringent, anti-septic and antibiotic.
This contains montmorillonite clay along with soothing, healing chamomile and calendula, hydrating antibacterial aloe vera along with moisturizing and nourishing cocoa butter, and sunflower, jojoba, borage and coconut oils, which can antibacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory benefits. Allantoin not only soothes and heals cracked skin, but also can dissolve the top dead skin layer, revealing new skin underneath. This also has hydrating humectants panthenol and glyercin ~ all in all, a fantastic mix of ingredients for a foot cream!
This is a lightweight lotion that packs a moisturizing punch. It also helps relieve any irritation as well ~ I used a foot peeling mask recently and like all foot peeling treatments, it treated the tops of my feet as well as my soles. The tops of my feet felt tight and tingling, but when I used this cream, it immediately calmed down any adverse reaction on my feet and my skin felt hydrated again. Even though this doesn’t have much of a scent to it, my feet smell nicer too when I use it, as it has natural deodorizing properties in it. This is another winner from Zion Health.
Ingredients: Tamanu Oil, Cinnamon Oil, Kanwa Clay (Calcium Montmorillonite), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Sunflower Oil, Panthenol, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Extract of Lavender, Chamomile, Calendula, Arnica, White Tea, Allantoin, Ethyl Hexyl Glycerin (Vegetable Glycerin and Coconut Oil), Jojoba Oil, Borage Oil, Cocoa Butter, Sodium Carbomer, Tocopherols, Phenoxyethanol (Rose Essence), Octyl Palmitate, Glycerin (Vegan), Glyceryl Stearate, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearic Acid, Coconut Oil cosDNA
Ancient Clay Soap Thieves Blend (6 oz $7.00 ) I really wanted to try the Liquid Body Soap but they were having shipping issues with it, so I received the bar soap version instead. This contains the ionic clay minerals as well as nourishing, blemish preventing coconut oil. Fatty acid and vitamin rich shea butter helps keep your skin nourished and moisturized while oatmeal moisturizes and exfoliates. This also has clove essential oil for the aroma as well as reducing body odor, lemon essential oil for astringent benefits, antibacterial cinnamon and rosemary and soothing, softening eucalyptus oil.
A little history legend on why this blend of oils is called Thieves Oil. This folklore tale goes back to the time of the middle ages, when the bubonic plague (aka The Black Death) was running rampant through all of Europe, killing millions, including the doctors that treated them. In France, four thieves were captured for stealing from those who were sick or dying from plague. The thieves were healthy and never caught the plague even though they were in close contact with those affected with the plague. Since then, the doctors that treated the plague victims stuffed the herbal mixture into the long “beak” of face masks while putting the oil blend on their body. And the mixture was cinnamon, cloves, lemon, rosemary and eucalyptus.
I am in LOVE with this scent so much ~ it has a warm spicy scent of cloves and cinnamon. The soap bar has little bits of exfoliating oatmeal pieces in it and it lathers up nicely without drying out my skin. It’s long lasting too ~ I have been using this on my body for the last month and I have barely made a dent in it! I TOTALLY recommend this lovely soap and Zion Health has several other great scents to try out as well such as lemongrass, tea tree, clove orange, peppermint, rose and blends ~ Golden Sun, Forest Rain, Blue Sky and much more. You can also pick a 6-pack bundle ($36.00) with your choice of scents and they also have 1 oz travel sizes, so you can pick out all of the scents for a $1.00 apiece!
Ingredients: Ionic Clay Minerals (Kanwa), Coconut Oil, Shea Butter, Coconut Butter, Oatmeal, Clove Essential Oil, Lemon Essential Oil, Cinnamon Essential Oil, Eucalyptus Essential Oil and Rosemary Essential Oil cosDNA
Clay Dry Deodorant (2.8 oz $8.00) I have been trying out different deodorants without success as they don’t control wetness. I eager to try these out because they contain clay and I am hoping that will absorb excess moisture. I chose two of them ~ Bold Elderberry and Bold Sweet Amber. Bold’s formula are for those looking for extra strength protection and it has a white finish. These are aluminum free and contain arrowroot, which is a common ingredient in natural deodorants, as it absorbs moisture while acting as an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory. This has the ionic clay minerals to help absorb odor and bring pH balance to the skin, while witch hazel absorbs excess oil, acts as an astringent while soothing and calming the skin. Another skin soother is chamomile and for moisturizing, this includes jojoba, coconut, sunflower and safflower seed oils, along with shea butter.
pH neutralizer and antibacterial sodium bicarbonate helps neutralize sweat acids and removes bacteria from the pits, preventing body odor. Magnesium hydroxide helps kill odor-causing bacteria from forming on the surface of the skin and will not block sweat ducts, irritate or clog pores. Zinc ricinoleate is another odor fixing ingredient preventing the scent caused by sweat from releasing in the air.
Let’s talk about the performance overall ~ both of these ClayDry Bold deodorants worked very well in terms of blocking odor and it also helped keep my underarms dry as well, during normal activity. That was a plus for me and something I didn’t expect. The scents are amazing ~ Elderberry is a rich fruity scent of berries and Sweet Amber is so sexy and warm ~ a very feminine scent without all those florals. However, I learned that my underarm skin must be VERY sensitive as I found these to be so difficult to apply ~ my delicate skin would tug and stretch as I tried to apply these products and it was quite painful. I think that the Silk versions might be better for me as those are very silky to apply ~ Zion Health creates several lines of deodorants ~ Silk and Solid are for very sensitive skin and is made without baking soda. The texture is silky and has a transparent finish. I already spoke about Bold, as that is the version I received. Dare is the same as Bold but has different unique scents.
