OLENS Supernatural Lenses Review

This is a FUN package from OLENS ~  We are going for a supernatural look with their Vampire, Waves and Stars in my eyes!  OLENS’ brand ambassador is the K-Pop girl group sensation from YG Entertainment, BlackPink!  I received these lenses from OLENS complementary for review purposes

I received these products complementary to review and was not paid.  All reviews are my own honest opinion and  I never have been asked to write copy for a brand.  This blog post might contain promo codes, affiliate and referral links, which using my links will help generate a small commission that helps support my blog at no extra cost to you.

OLENS is one of the first color contacts specialty brand to go global and they have helped introduce specialized colored contacts.  OLENS has developed Puscon, a material designed for sensitive eyes. It uses an FDA approved Phosphorylcholine, prevents protein deposits ~ I have a huge problem with that, increased oxygen permeability and has a hydrophobic  structure that forms a layer of moisture while minimizing water loss. OLENS handles their lenses using strict KFDA guidelines. ~ read more at olensglobal.com

OLENS offers several different lines: natural and realistic Scandi, exotic Russian Velvet and Spanish, romantic and fanciful ViVi Ring, 3D pigmentation, sophisticated colors with Secriss 3Con and so much more! They offer 1 day, 2 weeks, 1 month and 3 ~ 6 month contact choices, with a variety of prescription strengths ~ even no strength ~  diameter and colors.  I posted both the official photos from OLENS and my photos of how they look on me.  I think that is important, as OLENS uses models with dark brown eyes and the effect can be quite different on someone like me, with green eyes.

My prescription lens that I use normally are for astigmatism and I am lucky that the prescription strength is the same in both eyes at -5. OLENS does do a lot of BOGO on their one month wear lenses, so if you have different strengths, you are covered.  My base curve and diameter is slightly higher than they offer at OLENS , but that is due to the astigmatism correction.  OLENS has all of the specs on each one of their products and you can search on a lot of the specs, like diameter, prescription and so onMy natural eye color is green.  It changes colors on its own, so it can look blue, grey, aqua or taupe depending on my eyeshadow and my health.

The Vampire series comes in two shades, Silver and Red. Clocking in at 13.5mm with a big, fancy, intensely saturated graphic design, this is a limited collection made for the Halloween season, but seriously, you can wear these whenever you feel like it.  They are very show stopping and would be great to wear out to concerts, clubbing, parties or just because you feel like being different!  The total diameter is 14 mm with a 13.5 mm graphic and 8.6 mm base curve with power strengths of 0 to -6.00.  These are made from HEMA material with a 38% water content and they are a one month wear contact.

Vampire Silver has a dark charcoal gray rim, with a middle circle of a dove grey or silver, followed by a light taupe inner rim. The outer two rims are pixelated so it will blend in more, but that inner rim of silver is less dotted and looks more opaque, so that is what transforms my eyes into an otherworldly grey.  The Vampire series really makes my pupils look HUGE.

On my eyes, the inner taupe color blends in with my green shade, so these look really cool ~ going from charcoal to silver to a grayish-green core. Vampire Silver is the perfect gray for my eyes.

Vampire Red is also really awesome ~ It isn’t really a bright red on my eyes, but more of a Cherry Cola Red, it has a lot of brown undertones, starting with the dark brown outer rim, followed by a large reddish-brown inner ring with streaks of red.

There isn’t a 3 circle color shift, like the Silver. This contact will give your eyes a “doll” look, which can be quite unnerving. I do think this is one of my favorites lenses from OLENS.  Sorry for the red eyes as I had been trying on several OLENS that day and my eyes were getting irritated. Normally, I just put contacts in my eyes before my eye makeup so I won’t get any mascara and shadow in my eyes, but in this case, I was removing and adding contacts in with makeup on.   One thing I will note with the Vampire series and I don’t know if because they are so huge or the water content is less than some of the other lenses I have tried, but these can be a bit drying, so I needed to make sure I had my re-wetting drops with me

Caribe 3Con Series graphic design is based on the Caribbean Ocean’s big waves.  These are made from silicon hydrogel, providing a high level of UV protection with a 43% water content.  They have a total diameter of 14.2 mm, graphic diameter of 13.0 mm and a base curve of 8.6 mm.  These come in power strengths of 0 to -8.00 and are a one month wear contact.

Caribe 3Con Gray has more of a smokey taupe gray color with that wave graphic design and an inner wave rim of a light golden pumpkin shade.  The pattern is very delicate and almost lacy looking.

This gray is more on the cool side for me and other than adding some interest with the wave design, these were barely noticeable on my eyes ~ this is a very subtle contact, with unique design

Caribe 3Con Pink had such promise with its baby pink, lavender and peach waves. Again, very delicate, lacy looking pattern.

On my eyes, the outer rim was more lavender than pink. These were more noticeable than the Caribe 3Con Gray but for a pink contact, I still think the Jenith Gold 3Con in Pink is much better on my eyes for a pink shade (see review here)

And finally Rorastar Violet ~ I have tried these before and I LOVE THEM to bits.  I would love to try the other Rorastar shades as well, as they have brown and gray.  Rotastar are 3 to 6 month lenses, so it comes in a glass jar, not a plastic box.  It has shades of deep pink to violet with white dots swirling around the edge, to mimic the galaxy.  They have a total diameter of 14 mm with a graphic diameter of 13.3 mm, 38% water content and made of polyHEMA. The strength goes from 0 to -8.  Rorastar has different prescription strength to choose from for left and right eyes.

The color is very vivid and with my green iris in the middle, it really sets off the purple ~ green and purple do work well with each other.  I love how this looks and I can see myself reaching for these as daily wear even with the galaxy design.  They are very comfortable to wear and the design does not interfere with my vision.  Rorastar Violet lenses are unusual and fun to wear.  As these are 3 to 6 month wear, they do require a bit more care than 1 day or even monthly lenses.  You should get a good contact cleaning solution to store and also have saline solution to rinse before and after wearing.   These lenses would be the ones that are more susceptible to protein deposits so it is important to keep them clean.

Keep your eyes comfortable while wearing contacts by using O Fresh, a moisturizing eye drop specifically meant for contact wearers and it contains hydrating hyaluronic acid.  You should not use this if you aren’t wearing your contacts.  Soft contacts have a high water content and so it makes sense that they will dry out during the day in your eyes.  Your eyes can only moisten them so much and depending on the weather, the air might be so dry that they get uncomfortable.  Re-wet your contacts by applying a drop or two of O Fresh in your eyes and trust me, if you get any contact that is under 40% water, you will want to re-wet them during the day.

TIPS

If you have never worn contacts before, just remember these tips:

  • Make sure to wash and dry your hands
  • Use a saline solution to rinse off the contacts ~ even when you are opening a new pair, always rinse them
  • To pick up the lens, I dump them into the palm of my hand and then use my finger pad to pick them up. Not my finger TIP, no nails are involved here.
  • Make sure that the lens is curving inward like a bowl.  It is is flaring out, then you need to flip them inside out.

  • Inspect the lens for any damage such as tears
  • If the lens looks good, open your eyes wide and just place the lens on your eye.  Blink a few times.
    • You might want to use your other hand to lift up your upper lid while you insert the lens.  With practice, you will be able to add and remove your lens one handed and without a mirror!

OLens has a great section on lens care and handling and they do have a section about how to insert contacts here
