Wishtrend has been releasing a lot of new skincare products this summer and I have been chugging thru them all! These two products, Rovectin Cica Care Purifying Toner and Klairs Fundamental Water Gel Cream, are part of a bigger skincare line ~ Rovectin has a complete Cica Care line and Klairs Fundamental skincare line has been being built upon over the last few years (see reviews here) I have been using these products for a while now and I will say that if you have oily skin and the weather is hot and humid, I think you will really love these. I received both of these products for review purposes from Wishtrend.
Some products were complementary to review and was not paid. All reviews are my own honest opinion and I never have been asked to write copy for a brand. Skin Type/Concerns: Oily, blemish prone, aging skin with hyper-pigmentation and fine lines/wrinkles
Rovectin Cica Care Purifying Toner ~ Rovectin is a fairly new brand to me ~ Rovectin is a cosmeceutical skincare brand, made in both Korea and the USA, as its parent company is in Santa Monica, CA ~ luxury cosmetic laboratory with 25 years in the business. One of their more popular products, Barrier Repair Complex Cream, as created for use in hospitals and doctors globally. Their products are vegan-friendly and cruelty-free. I first introduced Rovectin on my Instagram account @colebiancardi
Wishtrend sent me the complete Rovectin Cica Care line, which I will review the other two products later on this week. I am focusing on this amazing toner with this review for oily skin care. This contains CICA, aka centella asiatica, a well known healing, soothing ingredient that will also help minimize the appearance of pores and since it stimulates collagen production, it will make your skin more supple and firm. This also contains centella derivative madecassoside helps soothe, reduce redness and inflammation while healing your skin.
Houttuynia cordata is a medicinal herb that is found in a lot in Asian skin care products. It is an antibiotic, which helps with preventing infection from skin problems, such as blemishes. It also has powerful detox properties, is an astringent and anti-inflammatory. Salvia hispanica (chia seeds) are an antioxidant and is used to hydrated your skin. They also contain omega-3 fatty acids, so it will help calm your skin as it is an anti-inflammatory.
This also contains a slew of amino acids, which will moisturize, firm, refine skin texture while promoting healthy skin along with moisturizing and skin barrier protecting ceramide. If you are sensitive to EO’s, there is lavender oil in here. This toner is cruelty free and vegan friendly.

Rovectin Cica Care Purifying Toner comes in a tall clear plastic 260 mL bottle with a flip cap and a pin hole applicator. The toner is clear, very watery and smells faintly of lavender ~ I love lavender so this is not an issue, but for those who dislike lavender, Rovectin’s Cica Care line does smell like lavender. This has a pH level of 5, which is mildly acidic.
This is very hydrating on my skin, due to something that Rovectin states is their patented Barrier Repair Complex™ ~ “Our exclusive formula acts like a lipid—your skin’s natural source of moisture—to restore and fortify your skin. This plant-based compound gently builds the strength of your skin’s natural barrier to keep moisture in and damaging toxins out.” I don’t know what makes up that complex, but I can tell you that this toner is very hydrating without being sticky or tacky on my skin.
This feels very cooling and refreshing as well, making it perfect for the hot and humid summer months. The healing and soothing ingredients also help with maskne ~ maskne is a real thing and its medical term is acne mechanica. Maskne comes about when we wear our protective face masks and they cause friction, heat and sweating. This can cause clogged pores and blemishes. I love the scent of this and I love the fresh feeling on my skin, it helps whisk away excess oil while reducing inflammation and healing my pimples. Great stuff!
The second product for combating oily skin in hot summer months is the new Klairs Fundamental Water Gel Cream. This reminds me so much of SoyBio+ Fermented Water Cream (review here) that I loved so much, but price and availability of that product made it difficult to come by. The ingredients are quite different, but the effects and texture are very similar. So, what is in here? Not ferments but lots of other good botanical ingredients
63.7% of Jeju green tea leaf water and extracts help to provide moisture and it’s full of powerful anti-oxidants, due to its high concentration of polyphenols. Green tea helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Oryza sativa (rice) is full of amino acids, vitamins, minerals and other nourishing compounds to help clear your skin, treat acne and has skin brightening and firming benefits. Rice contains γ-oryzanol, which is a potent antioxidant that can slow the production of hyper-pigmentation and prevent freckles and age spots.
Mugwort has been used in traditional European herbal medicine to help heal skin wounds and contains a rich source of antioxidants. Centella asiatica is a well known healing, soothing ingredient while rosemary has antimicrobial effects and prevents bacteria from infecting pores. Hibiscus esculentus is okra, one of my least favorite veggies to eat. Applied topically, however, it helps reduce the appearance of fine lines/wrinkles, lighten post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation and soothe and calm skin that has been irritated, as it is a rich source of vitamins A and C, along with other antioxidants such as beta-carotene.
A trio of humectants, glycerin, hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid and panthenol, help attract moisture and hydrates the skin, keeping it soft and smooth. Sunflower seed oil is a lightweight oil that has a high concentration of vitamins A and E, is a powerful anti-oxidant and may also help protect the skin from UV rays. It is known for its hydrating and moisturizing properties and it contains omaga-6 fatty acids.
Jojoba is both a moisturizing and skin softening, which is an emollient, oil and is used in many skin care products. It helps skin cells attract and keep moisturize and it helps penetrate your skin easily, aiding in your skin’s increased flexibility and elasticity. Tocopherol is vitamin E, providing antioxidant and anti-aging benefits to facilitate radiant healthy skin, while helping to heal scars and skin issues. Pro-ceramide phytosphingosine heals damaged skin and it has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial benefits too.
Ingredients: Camellia Sinensis Leaf Water (63.7%), Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Water, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, 1,2-Hexanediol, Pentaerythrityl Tetraethylhexanoate, Panthenol, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract, Hibiscus Esculentus Fruit Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Laminaria Japonica Extract, Artemisia Vulgaris Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Phytosphingosine, Caproyl Sphingosine, Tocopherol, Glyceryl Glucoside, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Trehalose, Jojoba Esters, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Hydrolyzed Jojoba Esters, Glyceryl Acrylate/Acrylic Acid Copolymer, Cetyl Alcohol, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Hydrogenated Polydecene, Ethylhexylglycerin, Cyclohexasiloxane cosDNA
This comes in a glass jar which is the only complaint I have. This water gel should have come in an airless pump applicator. There is no scent to this pale off-white cream and its texture is so liquidy and fluid ~ hence the bad design with the jar. This is more like a serum than a gel-cream in terms of texture, but looks are deceptive!
This gel cream spreads easily, with no sticky or oily residue ~ and man, is it ever moisturizing! I never thought this runny liquid would be so hydrating and leave my skin feeling so soft, smooth and supple. Now remember, I have oily skin, so maybe drier skin types won’t find it as moisturizing but for my dehydrated oily skin, this has been a great summer time moisturizer.
I love the lightweight formula, it is very hydrating and non-greasy, absorbs quickly, as Klairs used a “Hydra Emulsification System” technology to process the active ingredients so the gel-cream absorbs better. Fundamental Water Gel Cream doesn’t leave my skin looking oily but healthy looking. It works well under sunscreen and makeup with no pilling.
I think this product is very versatile as I can use it as a moisturizer for both day and night time in the summer and in the cooler months, this is more of a hydrating serum for me. For drier skin types, you can use this as a serum and/or emulsion all-year round. My only complaint, as I mentioned earlier, is the packaging. It should come in a pump bottle as it is so liquid.
