Sulwhasoo focuses on using hanbang, traditional Korean medicine, ingredients that are indigenous to Korea as well. The founder, Suh Sung-whan, took an interest in hanbang herbs and used these medicinal botanicals with science backed research found at Kyunghee University of Oriental Medicine. In 1966, Sulwhasoo was founded in the AmorePacific family and use their herb farms to harvest ingredients such as ginseng, lily, lotus, green tea and camellia. Jolse, a premier K-Beauty online shop, sent me two of their Timetreasure products for review purposes. I am not going to lie ~ Sulwhasoo is a high end skincare line and the Timetreasure line is one of their most expensive line ~ and for a reason. It is an anti-aging line like the Concentrated Ginseng line, but also has the added benefits of being a brightening, firming and refining skin texture over time. You can read my previous Sulwhasoo reviews here.
Skin Type/Concerns: oily, blemish prone, aging concerns, pores, fine lines/wrinkles, hyper-pigmentation
I received these products complementary to review and was not paid. All reviews are my own honest opinion and I never have been asked to write copy for a brand. The star ingredient is Korean red pine (pinus densiflora) bark ~ which is anti everything ~ antimicrobial, anti-septic, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory and is rich in antioxidants such as carotenoids and vitamins A, C and E, which help combat free radicals. Pine contains tannin, so this will have a natural pore tightening effect as it is an astringent. It has been used to help treat skin issues, such as acne, eczema and itching. According to Sulwhasoo, this contains a rare active:
“Designed to add intense yet lightweight moisture, this unique formula contains the rare De-aging Active (DAA) extracted from Korean red pine to provide anti-oxidant benefits, help improve overall texture and tone, and soften fine lines.”
Korean ginseng has twice as many types of saponin, which are an anti-wrinkle, anti-aging, anti inflammatory and brightening ingredient. It helps improves blood circulation to your skin and also is a superb moisturizer. Applied topically, it helps stimulate collagen production to promote cellular renewal, which will help keep your skin’s elasticity and create a glowing complexion. Its herbal properties and usage dates back over 5,000 years. Sulwhasoo uses ginseng that is 4 years old, known for its higher saponin content.
This is aged with all natural honey~ honey being crucial for glowing moist skin and also helping fight and heal blemishes and other skin issues. Tricholoma matsutake (pine mushroom) will hydrate, firm and brighten skin, while providing antioxidant protection from external stressors and pollution. Antioxidant-rich hydrolyzed proanthocyanidin helps protect against sun damage, reduces swelling and redness, while brightening skin tone. Antioxidant vitamin E is in here, which soothes, moisturizes, heals and helps strengthen your skin barrier. Dimethicone helps provide moisture and a silky smooth texture while creating a protective film/barrier on your skin. Both of these products contain alcohol, but personally, I never have issues with that ingredient and it isn’t the death of your skin. In fact, I think the alcohol helps thin out the product and make it absorb and spread more easily.
And that’s not all! Sulwhasoo adds a plethora of hanbang herbal ingredients, designed to help increase hydration, improve skin elasticity, promote blood circulation, refines skin texture, brightens skin, reduces swelling and redness and restore healthy skin: Solomon’s Seal, White lily, Chinese peony, East Indian lotus, Chinese liquorice and rehmannia
Sulwhasoo Timetreasure Invigorating Water is one of the more affordable items in the Timetreasure line at $93.00 at Jolse ~ it normally retails for $120.00. Now this is called a water, but it is a highly concentrated boosting toner and it is jammed packed with additional goodies along with the common ingredients ~ Squalane has the ability to penetrate the skin quickly and completely, which makes it valuable in skincare products, as it is a powerful antioxidant, UV damage preventative, prevents hyper-pigmentation due to age, promotes cell growth. Dried ginger root helps with anti-aging, removes toxins and stimulates your blood circulation. It combats and prevents damage from free radicals, helping improve elasticity which makes your skin firm, toned and less wrinkles. It have anti-bacterial properties to help fight off infections, it is also an anti-septic and antimicrobial, which helps keep blemishes away and its anti-inflammatory properties help reduce redness and swelling of the skin. Shiitake (lentinus edodes) contains a rich source of concentrated kojic acid, which is a natural skin brightener, helping to brighten the skin, fade hyper-pigmentation while providing anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits.
This comes in a beautiful red-bronze glass bottle with bronze-red cap with a red-bronze mirrored top. I know some people will describe this as rose gold, but I see it as much more rich and deeper than rose gold ~ bronze-red. This has a pin hole applicator and the “water” is this light-milky looking liquid that is quite watery. This has a slight herbal-floral scent, which is okay ~ I was hoping for pine or ginseng, but it fades quickly. This has a pH level of a 4, so it is mildly acidic but it is not irritating at all.
Now, this is watery, but omg, I can feel how moisturizing this is on my skin. This is so full of hydrators that I would say this beats out any boosting toner I have ever used before ~ and it should at that price tag! My skin drinks this up and leaves no tacky residue behind. What I do notice is just how amazingly smooth my skin is and how supple it is. I haven’t noticed any lightening of my age spots or sun damaged hyper-pigmentation but what I do notice is that this toner gives my skin a lovely radiant glow and how deeply hydrated my skin has become. I am going to cry when this bottle is used up as I don’t want to ever stop using it! Thankfully, the instructions state only to use three to five drops of this water into your palms and pat into the skin ~ do not waste any of this precious fluid by using a cotton pad! This is the second step after using my Holy Grail Sulwhosoo First Care Activating Serum.

Sulwhasoo Timetreasure Invigorating Sleeping Mask Okay, yes, I know ~ this retails for $200.00 for 80 mL and even with the discount at Jolse brining it down to $153.00, this is one pricey sleeping mask pack. Jude at @fiddysnails tried to warn me, saying “For your own good, I hope it’s too heavy for your skin.” Let’s dive into this one quickly ~ or not so quickly! This is one moisturizing sleeping pack and along with the common ingredients, this product is overloaded with really fantastic ingredients.
It contains several oils in it ~ meadowfoam seed oil has excellent anti-oxidant and skin softening properties and benefits. It has rich texture that helps with your skin’s barrier and locks in your skin’s moisture, preventing dryness. It also is used to extend the shelf life of other oils. Safflower oil is an ancient medicinal remedy and contains oleic and linoleic acids, helping protect and moisture your skin, as well as containing anti-inflammatory benefits ~ protecting your skin from high level of toxins and bacteria. Cymbopogon martini or palmarosa oil is a herbaceous grass that grows in the wild ~ this is also known as geranium oil, which I am very familiar with in skincare.. This oil not only hydrates, but also contains anti-inflammatory benefits, prevents dehydration (yes) …. AND this is why this product works well for me ~ palmarosa oil also balances the skin’s oil production while helping heal blemishes.
Shea butter contains rich source of concentrated natural vitamins and fatty acids ~ oleic, stearic, palmitic, linolenic ~ and is highly moisturizing and nourishing. It helps repair your skin, as well as reduce skin inflammation due to its lupeol cinnamate compound. It also smooths your skin to protect it from drying and it strengthens your skin over time as it helps aid in the collagen production. Theobroma cacao (cocoa) is rich in fatty acids, such as oleic, palmitic and stearic acids and will help combat free radicals and limiting the damaging effects on your skin, while softening and smoothing your skin. Cocoa butter is used to keep your skin soft and supple
Adenosineis a yeast derived, amino acid and it became popular after it was found to help improve the reduction of wrinkles, smoothing your skin and anti-inflammatory. Adenosine is safe to use day and night, unlike vitamin C and retinol. Morus alba(mulberry) is rich in antioxidants and helps slow down aging process, by combating free radicals and removing dead skin cells. It is also known for its brightening properties ~ arbutin ~ which will reduce the appearance of spots caused by hyper-pigmentation. Antioxidant-rich apricot kernel extract is nutritious and helps support the skin, helping to prevent free radical damage
Ophiopogon japonicus aka monkeygrass, is part of the lily famly. This root extract is rich in hydrating saccarides and aids in retaining moisture in the skin, preventing dryness and helps refine the skin’s texture. Coix lacryma-jobi ma-yuen or Job’s Tears is a favorite ingredient of mine ~ Job’s Tears have been used in traditional Chinese medicine and contain nutrients, vitamins, minerals and essential amino acids. It is great for skin as it helps heal and lighten blemishes, redness and will help soften your skin.
Again, lots of ingredients but this is a premium anti-aging sleeping mask pack ~ this comes in a beautiful bronze-red squat tub with a beautiful and I mean, just stunning cap. You have to see this in strong natural sunlight to really appreciate it ~ the top of the flared cap has two layers ~ the top layer is just a normal smoky brown color, but underneath that, you see a rippling design that is an amber red color. Once the light hits that lid, it flashes red and looks like a light has been turn on inside the lid. Yeah, I am geeking out over a lid! hahaha. This mask pack comes with a BRUSH to apply it ~ seriously a BRUSH. I am a heathen and use my fingers.
This has the same floral-herbal scent which I have learned to ignore by now ~ the CREAM THOUGH. It is an light-beige shade ~ I was a little shocked at the color, as I haven’t seen a sleeping mask pack that is this shade. This is a cream, but it is so slippery, slick and lightweight. Yes, lightweight ~ I have used heavier mask packs, believe me and this one isn’t heavy at all. In fact, if you are looking for a heavier texture like Sulwhasoo’s Concentrated Ginseng Cream, you will be disappointed by its texture. BUT …. it is VERY Moisturizing ~ with a capital M. The lightweight texture is deceiving as this is so moisturizing and I, with the oily, dehydrated skin, didn’t need a lot of it to cover my face.
This needs some time to sink into the skin, however ~ as it is so moisturizing, it does leave a slight tacky residue, so I wait a while before going to bed, giving it time to fully absorb. In the morning, my skin is soft, GLOWING, looks healthier and feels smoother. I feel like I have been waiting for Timetreasure my whole life, or at least when my skin decided to show its age ~ for my oily skin, this didn’t cause me to breakout or make my skin still feel greasy in the morning. I do feel that the palmarosa oil that was included in this product really did a great job with balancing my skin’s sebum production.
Just like the Water, I am crying over this product as I really do love it, but that price tag. Ugggg… BUT I don’t use this every night and I don’t need a lot of it, so I am hoping this will last me a few more months. I started using this in mid January and it is now the beginning of April ~ and I still have about a quarter of the tub left. My only suggestion is to change the scent of the Timetreasure line to be like the Concentrated Ginseng line. If you have the money, get this. You will thank me later. If you don’t have the money, purchase samples first so you decide if you really need this or not.
