Unboxing Beauty

Well, I have a few cosRX products coming up to review and this is one of their latest releases and it is right up my skincare alley!  I have very oily skin, still get blemishes at my age (sigh) so I am always using a powder to bring down that oily shine on my face.  My gold standard is Innisfree No-Sebum Mineral Powder (actually, the Pact) and when I saw that cosRX came out with one that looked very similar to it, I knew I needed to try it.  Jolse, a premier Korean online store, sent me these items for review purposes. 

Skin type/concerns:  Oily, aging, blemish prone, pores, hyper-pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles.

So what to do if your oil keeps breaking thru your foundation?  Or even if you don’t wear foundation, but just a sunscreen, that T-Zone is looking pretty shiny and not in a good way.   I always keep a translucent powder on me that is designed to sop up that oil , provide a nice mattifying finish and not cake up after multiple applications throughout the day.   cosRX added a healing ingredient, centella, in their new mineral powder. 

Main Ingredients

Centella asiatica is a soothing and repairing skin care ingredient, as it is a plant that is rich in saponins and is an anti-inflammatory, calming your skin and aid in wound healing. It is rich in amino acids as well as essential fatty acids, beta carotene and other phytochemicals, which help with wound healing and stimulating new skin cell growth.  It not only just helps with healing, it helps reduce blemishes and skin rashes as it has anti-bacterial properties.  Centella extracts will helps minimize the appearance of pores, and since it stimulates collagen production, it will make your skin more supple and firm.   This also has mint in it ~ mentha arvensis (cornmint) which soothes and calms irritated skin.  It also can help reduce oil and strengthen your skin, as it contains vitamin A. This also has silica in it, for that silky smooth feeling and it controls oil as well.   

Ingredients: Silica, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Corn Starch Modified, Ethylene/Acrylic Acid Copolymer, Dimethicone, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Ethylhexylglycerin, Rosa Canina Fruit Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Mentha Arvensis Leaf Extract, Glyceryl Caprylate, Butylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol   cosDNA  

This loose powder comes in a small 5 gram container, that has a light spring green bottom, with a white cap. Just unscrew the cap and inside is the soft cushion puff and the powder.  There is a sifter over the powder, so you don’t make a huge mess of it.  I do not notice any scent with this and the powder is very finely milled and white.  Now, I don’t use the puff to apply, but a fluffy brush as I feel that will ensure that it is translucent on my skin.   Even the cosRX promo video uses a fluffy brush! 

If I use too much or the puff is uneven, then I will have whitish spots on my face.  As this does contain silica, you do need to blend this in well, otherwise you will get a flash back of white in photos, making you look like you didn’t even bother to blend out your makeup!   In the photo below, you can see that the upper half of my hand doesn’t have the powder and you can see the fine texture on my hand.  Right under that line, I blended out the cosRX powder and it blurs the texture on my skin so it is smooth and silky.

This is a very lightweight and micro fine, goes on nicely and it does help control the oily skin and blurs out my pores and fine lines, while making my skin feel silky smooth.  It doesn’t cake at all or settle into my fine lines and wrinkles, so I long I remember to hydrate my skin ~ if your skin is dry, the finish will look dry and patching.  You can use this loose powder in a variety of ways besides keeping your oil at bay  ~ you can use it as a dry shampoo or even as a deodorant ~ helping to soak up sweat.  

Innisfree vs cosRX  

So the obvious is going to occur.  I am going to do a quick break down on the loose mineral powders.  I do not have on hand the loose powder version, but the Innisfree No-Sebum Mineral Pact as I like a pressed powder better than loose.  However, I have purchased the loose mineral powder version many many times, so it is literally the same as the pact and you can read my review here.  The cult classic favorite of Innisfree No-Sebum Mineral Powder vs cosRX Perfect Sebum Centella Mineral Powder.  They are both free of sulfates, parabens, alcohol, EU allergens and fungal acne (malassezia) safe (source).  Both contain similar ingredients and Innsifree has added fragrance, which I could never detect.   They are both 5 grams each and they both have a nice light, soft touch. Finely milled micro-powder, both in a green compact and both control oil VERY well.  cosRX’s design has a more modern look whereas Innisfree looks very retro. 

Innisfree has anti-oxidant green tea, along with mica, methicone and mineral salts.  cosRX has rose hips, healing centella and butylene glycol added.  Personally they are the same to me ~ I do not see any difference in terms of blurring, oil control and reapplication; the only cosRX benefit is the centella in the cosRX.  If you suffer from rashes, wounds, blemishes, the cosRX might be good for you as you can dust this over your skin and the centella will facilitate healing.  

I hope that cosRX follows Innisfree’s lead here and comes out with a pressed compact and also a tinted version as well.  Innisfree is the leader with the No-Sebum line as they have expanded it beyond the loose mineral powder.

Final Thoughts

So, you need centella for healing in addition to oil control, mattifying and reducing pore appearance?  Then I think cosRX is your product! This has all of the best qualities of the Innisfree No-Sebum Mineral Powder with the additional benefit of quickly healing up blemishes and skin troubles.  The loose powder makes it more versatile than just a facial powder, although I suspect that will be its prime use.  It does what it states it will do ~ heal, mattify, blur pores and fine lines/wrinkles and  doesn’t cake even after multiple applications. I do hope cosRX comes out with a compressed powder pact, as I prefer those over the loose powder.  Have you tried cosRX Perfect Sebum Centella Mineral Powder yet?
