By Wishtrend TMI Box – Skin Reset Edition Review

Its been a few years since By Wishtrend created their Green Tea & Enzyme Powder Wash and now they have a matching Green Tea & Enzyme Milky Foaming Wash! Foaming powder enzymatic facial cleansers are fantastic and you can even mix the powder in with your foaming cleanser for a deeper cleanse!  Wishtrend sent their Skin Reset Edition TMI Box, which contains  both items, for review purposes.   Please note that these cleansers do have a higher pH level but for my oily skin, they did not leave a tight or dry feeling.  I do not have issues with a pH cleanser that is higher ~ everyone’s skin is different and reacts differently.  I have had bad cleansers with low pH levels and fantastic cleansers with higher pH levels.  If a cleanser has a pH level of 7 or 8, that alone doesn’t disqualify it for me ~ it is how it makes my skin feel afterwards that is important.  I only pH test because I know that some of my readers are of need of a lower pH cleanser and I provide that information so they can better informed.

Skin Type/Concerns:  oily, blemish prone, dehydrated, aging concerns, pores, fine lines/wrinkles, hyper-pigmentation

I received these products complementary to review and was not paid.  All reviews are my own honest opinion and  I never have been asked to write copy for a brand.  This blog post might contain promo codes, affiliate and referral links, which using my links will help generate a small commission that helps support my blog at no extra cost to you.

Before I get into the deets on the cleansers, I wanted to let you know what is in the Skin Reset Edition Box.  It has a full size By Wishtrend Green Tea & Enzyme Powder Wash, By Wishtrend Green Tea & Enzyme Milky Foaming Wash, along with a special spa headband and face towel.  Wishtrend also included a Skin Reset Flowcart and informational guide book that tells you more based on your skin type.   I have included that information at the end of this review.

Key Ingredients

For those who do not know what an enzyme cleanser is, I have written up a little description on this type of skincare product. Enzymes in skin care have two functions ~ exfoliation and to help reduce swelling, tenderness, redness and pain ~ anti-inflammation.  Enzymes can be very gentle and are a fantastic replacement for facial scrubs and microdermabrasion products, such as  Dr. Brandt Skincare Microdermabrasion Skin Exfoliant and Derma E Microdermabrasion Scrub ~ those products could be too harsh for your skin type, and could exacerbate the skin issues you thought the product was going to handle!   Enzymes break down the upper layer of skin which contains dead skin cells that contains keratin and whisking them away ~ literally decomposing the skin cells. By breaking down keratin, your skin is smoother and silkier.  Some of the best fruit enzymes are papaya (papain), blueberry and pineapple (bromelain).   I do not use enzyme cleansers as a second cleansing/foaming cleanser step.  I use them after a foaming cleanser step ~ I guess you can say that I triple cleanse!!

Green tea is full of powerful antioxidants, due to its high concentration of polyphenols and tannins, green tea helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, along with soothing care against irritation and swelling.  Both products include enzyme papain, which comes from papayas.  Papain has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial benefits. It will chemically exfoliate your skin without irritation by gently loosening dead skin cells and removing them from your skin, making your skin smooth, vibrant and healthy. Papain solves a variety of skin issues, such as acne, dry skin and premature aging while providing pore and sebum care.  Both of these products are vegan and cruelty free.

Green Tea & Enzyme Powder Wash:  Let’s talk about the Enzyme Cleanser first!  This did get an upgrade in ingredients since I first used it, but the core is pretty much the same.  This contains green tea leaf powder allows for some physical exfoliation along with the baking soda,   The first ingredient in here is baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) which can be a controversial ingredient in cleansers ~ personally, I think my skin must be tough and not terribly sensitive to the stuff I put on it, so I just raised an eyebrow at this ingredient, as I do know how certain quarters of the skincare community feel about baking soda.  Baking soda is an alkaline ingredient, clocking in at a 9 pH level, but this formula also has citric acid in it, which is acidic and a pH adjuster.  Baking soda is an antiseptic, so it will kill bacteria.

Plant derived sodium lauroyl glutamate is a gentle surfactant made from amino acid and fatty acids, and leaves skin soft and smooth.  Sodium cocoyl isethionate is a fatty acid, coconut derived surfactant, which solubilizes oils, allowing water to mix with oil and dirt, so the grime is rinsed away completely.   [source ]  This also has coconut acid, an alkaline surfactant which has antimicrobial properties.

Sodium ascorbyl phosphate is a stable, water soluble derivative of vitamin C, which helps brighten your skin tone. Humectants sorbitol and sodium hyaluronate ensure that the skin is hydrated.   This also has amino acids of lysine, theanine, proline and betaine, which help keep the skin moisturized and hydrated.

Ingredients: Sodium Bicarbonate, Sodium Lauroyl Glutamate, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Coconut Acid, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Powder, Water,  Sodium Isethionate, Papain, Zinc Oxide, Lysine HCL, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Acetyl Methionine, Theanine, Proline, Betaine, Cellulose Gum, Citric Acid, Carica Papaya (Papaya) Fruit Extract, Sorbitol, Glycerine, Butylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Sodium Hyaluronate   cosDNA

The upgrade to this cleanser is nicer as it is now in a tall bottle with a flip cap, which makes it easier to store with your other products. The old design was VERY cute, as it was rounded, but didn’t play well my shower caddy due to its shape.  The pale matcha-green colored grains are finely milled ~ not as fine as AmorePacific Enzyme Treatment Peel but much finer than Tosowoong Enzyme Powder.   And yes, this cleanser smells like matcha! This is the nicest scented enzyme powder cleanser I have ever used and sometimes I feel like I should just make a cup of matcha instead of putting it on my face!

This foams up decently for an enzyme powder wash as well, with no clumps ~ normally, these types of cleansers do not have a lot of foaming action ~ except for Tosowoong ~  but you don’t need that much foam for an exfoliating enzymatic cleanser.  I normally use my Foreo LUNA to help foam up my cleansers, but for this test, I just rubbed my hands together, as not everyone has a LUNA (click here to read my reviews on Foreo LUNA)  my Foreo does create a nicer foam and if I had used more powder, I would have gotten even more foam.

This cleanser does not cause any stinging or irritation on my skin and when I rinse it off,  my skin does not feel dry or stripped.  In fact, it feels like I just put on a thin layer of emulsion on my skin, as it not only feels smooth, but moisturized ~ I can feel a protective barrier of lipids on my skin, but it is not oily or greasy.  It sounds gross and like my face isn’t clean, but that isn’t the case.  My skin is quite clean and this light moisturized feeling is actually quite nice ~ I think this not just the cleanser, but also the natural oils in my skin!   I did do a pH test on this cleanser and found that this cleanser really does take in account the pH level of the water you use ~ at home,  I got a level of pH 8.  I personally do not find that to be that high or even bad, as the results on my skin are positive.

Green Tea & Enzyme Milky Foaming Wash is the latest in this line of By Wishtrend Green Tea products. I am pleased that this is an enzyme cleanser too!  Not only does this contain papain, but enzyme bromelain.  Bromelain comes from pineapple, which is similar to papaya’s papain enzyme. Bromelain is a gentle exfoliator and has anti-inflammatory with antimicrobial benefits as well. Enzymes break down and dissolve keratin protein, your outer layer of your skin while whisking away dead skin cells and oils.  Your skin is smoother and glowing and it can also help with reducing scars, fine lines, hyper-pigmentation over time.  The first ingredient is 52% Jeju green tea water, so it is full of those antioxidants and tannins, plus anti-inflammatory benefits.

This also has centella asiatica, which has properties to help your skin heal faster and also  minimize the appearance of pores.  This also has a Grain Milk Complex, consisting of skin brightening, hydrating, anti-inflammatory rice, soothing and moisturizing oatmeal and antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, moisturizing  soybeans. Humectant Beta-glucan is an  anti-irritant amino acid, providing silky smooth skin while soothing and calming the skin and finally, rich lipid ceramides to help moisturize your skin.

Ingredients: Camellia Sinensis Leaf Water, Water, Hydrogenated Poly(C6-14 Olefin), Myristic Acid, Potassium Hydroxide, Glycerin, Lauric Acid, Lauryl Hydroxysultaine, Butylene Glycol, Potassium Cocoyl Glycinate, 1,2-Hexanediol, Palmitic Acid, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Stearic Acid, Potassium Myristate, Hydrated Silica, Potassium Laurate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Potassium Stearate, Mannitol, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Flower Extract, Dextrin, Gardenia Florida Fruit Extract, Papain, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Bromelain, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Extract, Ficus Carica (Fig) Fruit Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Beta-Glucan, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract, Avena Sativa (Oat) Meal Extract, Tocopherol, Ceramide NP, Glycine Max (Soybean) Seed Extract  cosDNA

This has a similar shape to the Green Tea & Enzyme Powder Wash but with a pump top applicator.  The cleanser is  cream-colored gel-like texture, very silky.   One thing I noticed is that it has almost a sticky stringy texture too, which Wishtrend describes as a “grime-gripping” formula that attracts grime, oils and dirt.

It foams up better with my FOREO, but I am using my two hands rubbed together here in the photos, so it does have a nice lather.  This does have a pH level of 9.5 ~ 10, so all of those moisturizing ingredients really help in the long run.  This does remove my makeup and dirt fairly well, but I would normally use an oil cleanser first to really tackle the dirt, makeup and grime before a foaming cleanser.  This has doesn’t smell like anything to me, so if you are sensitive to scents, this is pretty much fragrance free.  I didn’t find this stripping on my skin, but then again, I do have oily skin.   I think both of these cleansers are best suited for oily skin or if you live in a hot, humid area where your skin gets very oily and sweaty quickly.
