Naruko DermaLane 1000-Molecule Hyaluronic Acid Essence Review

As I truly love the Naruko DermaLane 1000-Molecule Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Night Gelly, Rachel at Naruko suggested that I try the matching essence. It is summer time in the Northeastern part of the USA and I am trying to combat my oily skin without dehydrating it too much ~ so I really use a lot of hydrating watery products right now. In fact, you might be bombarded with hydrating toners, essences, serums and other items in the next few weeks, as I am just soaking my face in them! The reason why I am into hydrating products more in the summer is due to my oil production goes into overdrive in the summer ~ so I am trying to mattify my skin while keeping it hydrated. I really forgo any type of creams in the summer, depending mainly on tons of watery toners, serums and essences and topping off with a lightweight gel or lotion. Even my sunscreens are watery!! So, without further ado, here is my review on this massive water-bomb of an essence, Naruko DermaLane 1000-Molecule Hyaluronic Acid Essence.

Skin Type/Concerns: Oily, blemish prone, aging skin with fine lines/wrinkles and hyper-pigmentation (both sun damage and PIH)

Naruko DermaLane 1000-Molecule Hyaluronic Acid Night Essence will help rebalance, rehydrate and restore the moisture in your skin. I am really excited about the rebalance, as my skin is normally hydrated and OILY. I want to bring that to hydrated and normal as once I reach that balance, my skin will have a nice glow without looking greasy.

I was very shocked when I looked at the ingredients in this essence ~ I am so used to Naruko having a long list of ingredients, including their proprietary special blends, that seeing a short ingredient list like this made me wonder if they forgot to print out the full listing! ahahaha This contains humectants which will reduce the loss of moisture by attracting and retaining water in your skin. Sodium hyaluronate is one the more popular humectants ~ it is an intensive moisturizing ingredient which bonds water to keep skin hydrated. It is a natural substance found in the human body and it made up of amino and uronic acids, and helps retain 100 to 1,000 times its own water weight in our skin cells. Sodium PCA (aka sodium pyroglutamic acid) is derived from non-essential amino acid proline via a fermenting process of sugars and starches ~ sodium PCA is part of our own skin’s NMF (natural moisturizing factor) and helps bind moisture to our skin cells. Replenishing and applying sodium PCA back to the skin is really important as we age, because like so many things, our naturally occurring PCA diminishes as we age. It also helps with our acid mantle in preventing moisture loss from our skin cells as well. Urea works to help bind moisture to the skin cells as well.

Fourth generation moisturizer polyquaternium-51 (lipidure) retains moisture better than beta-glucan and pentavitin (saccharide isomerate) helps bind moisture to your skin ~ by binding to the lysine found in the proteins in the outer layer of your skin, it cannot be washed off easily, therefore giving your skin continuous and long lasting moisture. Panthanol and trehalose will help to strengthen your moisture retention barrier and make sure your skin does not loose all of that hydrating water. This does have an anti-aging ingredient in fermented olive leaf which will help promote and help aid in the production of collagen ~ collagen gives our skin strength and elasticity. Our bodies own collagen production decreases as we age, causing wrinkles and loss of tone in our skin. Adding it back in will help plump up our skin and give a more fresh appearance. This also has AHA citric acid, but it is so far down the ingredient list, that I do not think it will provide much exfoliation or cellular turnover. AHA ingredients should be in the top 1/3 of the ingredient list to be optimally effective.

Similar to the night gelly, this essence contains a “5-Element Beauty Factor“, which is made up of fermented minerals which are extracted from beer yeast. Minerals cannot be produced within the human body, but they are key in our health ~ we couldn’t assimilate vitamins and certain enzymatic reactions would never take place without these inorganic compounds . The fermented minerals are saccharomyces zinc, copper, magnesium, iron and silicon. (source from In Cosmetics). Rachel from Naruko provided this information for me as well

Naruko DermaLane 1000-Molecule HA Essence comes in a small 30mL bottle ~ I say small because it is tiny compare to other essences and serums ~ but a little goes a long way. I use mine both in my day time and night time routine, for about a month now and I am almost half way thru the bottle. 1000-Molecule HA Essence claims are

The essence comes in a blue bottle with a bright silver cap that you have to double twist to open ~ the first twist pops up a button on the cap. You press down on the button several times, which pumps up the essence into the eye dropper applicator tube. Then twist again to remove the cap with its eye dropper applicator and then press the button to dispense the liquid on your skin. I did an Instagram video demonstrating the cap and application.

The essence is a thicker-than-water yet watery, as it has a bit of viscosity to it ~ I did not detect a scent with this essence. This has a slippery, slick feel to it as I massage it into my skin ~ this is probably due to the panthenol~ which is a natural lubricant and humectant and has that slick feel to it. The essence absorbs quickly however, providing my skin with an intense, non-greasy hydration, leaving it silky soft and smooth to touch, with a cooling feeling on my skin.

Did I mention intense hydration? I believe I did. This increased my moisture level by 67% while reducing oil by 22%! This had the effect I wanted ~ it hydrated my skin, reduced my oil and left my skin normalized. In the summer time, our oil production increases by 10% to 20% for every degree our skin temperature rises and an increase of oil on my skin, means sebum-clogged pores and dull skin, with cystic acne. This will keep my skin hydrated while reducing the surface oil, so I am thrilled with this.

When I use this essence in combination with the 1000-Molecule HA Night Jelly, my skin in the morning is so refreshed and hydrated. I have been using a few acid products on my skin at night to help refine my skin texture and also in hopes of brightening and lightening my hyper-pigmentation. This combo has helped soothe my skin while I am doing these treatments and it is also cooling on my face as well.

Most of the claims got a 5 check rating from me, meaning that it is exceeded my expectations. The only item I didn’t give any checks towards the claim is that I have no way of measuring harm from oxidation. I didn’t find this essence to reverse my current fine lines and wrinkles, but it did temporarily plump up my skin so they were not as apparent. That said, this is a water-bomb of an essence. I have oily skin, but I bet dry skin types will love this essence too ~ but as an oily skinned person, I will say, if you suffer my oily skin, you need to get this essence (and the night jelly too…seriously ~ get both) My skin was hydrated, even when I just used this product alone and topped off with a gel lotion. No greasy, sticky, oily, filmy residue, just fresh, hydrated skin that feels soft and smooth. Sometimes, all you want is MOISTURE and this essence will provide it in abundance.
