Back before Memebox stopped selling items, I was sent a few items to review, including the new release of Pony Effect cleansing products. This latest release by Pony Effect included a cleansing oil and a cleansing water which contains soothing and nourishing botanical ingredients. Pony Effect Natural Purifying Cleansing series contain “Natural Herb Complex“, which is made up of seven soothing herbal ingredients: lavender, basil, lilac, houttuynia cordata, ashitaba, rosemary and mallow ~ all ingredients that have been used to act as an anti-bacterial, soothing care, revitalizingc care and healing care. They also contain a complex called “Natural Pure Water-7“, which is seven watery extracts from rice bran, plum, grapes, carrots, hinoki, thuja and citrus unshiu, all known for their antioxidant and moisturizing, hydrating properties.
Skin Type/Concerns: Oily, blemish prone with aging concerns ~ fine lines/wrinkles, hyper-pigmentation
Pretty much my standard blog blurb on cleansing oils: Cleansing oils are used as the 1st step in the 2-step method of facial cleansing. I used to be afraid of putting oils on my very oily skin, but not anymore! I learned that oil cleansing doesn’t add oil to your face and it allows the stubborn makeup to dissolve pretty quickly without any harsh effects to your skin. You just massage the oil onto your dry skin ~ I’ve done with wet skin, so it does work either way ~ and gently remove the makeup. Depending on how much makeup and dirt you have on your face, your oil will turn quite dark as it is picking up all of that makeup/grime. Add water to your face and the oil should turn into a milky like emulsion and rinse away clean. The 2nd step is a foaming cleanser, which will remove any additional cleansing oil product, as well as excess oil and dirt on your skin.
Pony Effect Natural Purifying Cleansing Oil (whatta mouthful) contains antioxidant rich oils, such as rosehip, green tea and camellia, which will help deep clean and unclog pores and purify your skin without stripping or drying it out. According to the brand, the molecular structure of those oils are similar to your skins own oils, so it can easily penetrate into your skin, delivering anti-aging and protective benefits ~ however, this is a cleansing oil, not a cream or serum. It might be beneficial to have those ingredients, but you are washing them off your skin, so I don’t think you should look to your cleansing oil for long lasting benefits ~ just think of it as a bonus. For those who are sensitive to scents, this is odorless as far as I can make out. This does have peppermint, but this does not have a cooling or menthol sensation. This 200 mL clear plastic bottle has an easy pump applicator that doesn’t squirt the contents all over the place ~ nothing worse than an oil cleanser pump deciding to announce their presence with authority ** I did my standard cleansing oil test, applying thick layers of long lasting, stubborn makeup to see how well this oil cleanser performed. This did a decent job on removing my makeup, but you can still see some faint stains from my red lip products. I would normally follow up with a foaming cleanser to finish the job. Unboxing Beauty Tip: Another thing I like to use this product for is to quickly remove eye makeup ~ I will take a cotton pad, add some oil to it and then just gently press against my closed eyes for a minute or two and then wipe away my mascara, eyeliner and eye shadow. I would then use my cleansing water to remove any oil residue.
Pony Tip: I was reading the product information (well, translating it from Korean to English using my google app translator) and found that Pony had another tip for oil cleansers: If you have whiteheads or blackheads, remove your makeup first and then wrap a steamed towel on your face for 3 to 5 minutes to open your pores. Add cleansing oil to your face and massage it on your skin for one minute. Add some water to your face and rinse thoroughly ~ the oil will help soften your skin’s sebum and help with pore and blemish care. To steam your towel, what I do is take my face towel, soak it in water and then wring out thoroughly. I will then put it in the microwave for about 10 – 20 seconds to get it steaming ~ you can adjust the time based on your own skin’s tolerance for a steam towel.

Pony Effect Natural Purifying Cleansing Water I am a huge fan of cleansing waters ~ I use them to quickly remove makeup and just to refresh my face when I get home from work, after a work out or first thing in the morning. I don’t take a shower the second I get up in the morning, so I will just use some cleansing water product to remove any residue of my night time skincare products. I also use cleansing waters after I rinse off a clay or wash off mask pack ~ this is so I can make sure I have removed all of the product and there isn’t any residue on my skin. Pony Effect Cleansing Water comes in a huge 295 mL bottle and the applicator is a vertical pump ~ you just press down on the top after removing the cap and the water will fill up in that little shallow basin. I just grab a cotton pad/sheet and use that to press down, so that the water will soak into the cotton. This cleansing water is soap and oil free and like the cleansing oil, has no scent. It is a very watery cleansing water ~ yes, there are cleansing waters out there that are a bit more than just a watery texture, such as Innisfree Green Tea Cleansing Water ~ and it doesn’t have any sticky or tacky residue. Any watery remains on my skin is quickly absorbed. This also doesn’t sting my eyes ~ before I started using this, I was using Make P:rem Black Cleansing Water and that one just burned my eyes like crazy (Unboxing Beauty Tip: Don’t waste your money on that one ~ so expensive, left a film on my skin and burned my eyes) This has a pH level of around 6.5 to 7 ~ which don’t freak out about that. Water, which everyone uses on their face, is around a 7 ~ my water here at home is between 7 and 8!! I just load up my cotton sheet with the water and swipe away the makeup. This is not to replace products that will remove more stubborn makeup and sunscreens ~ that is where an oil cleanser or foaming cleanser would be used first. As I test out a lot of cleansers, at times I try one that leaves a film on my skin, so I would use a cleansing water to remove that filmy feeling. I mentioned in the oil cleanser section that I like to quickly remove my eye makeup with an oil cleanser and then I will go back over with a cotton pad with this cleansing water.
I also like this cleansing water because it has witch hazel in it ~ that is a soothing and calming ingredient and has anti-inflammatory benefits but it is also an astringent too ~ so my pores will benefit! This is not a drying cleansing water and its ingredient list is good for all skin types, but is is especially suitable for those of us who suffer from oily, blemish prone skin, as it does have oil controlling peppermint, anti-bacterial rosemary and skin healing lavender extracts. Just like the Oil Cleanser, there is no cooling or menthol feeling that you would expect due to the peppermint ingredient.
Pony’s Tip: If you need a portable makeup remover, moisten a cotton swab with the cleansing water and carry it in the zipper bag. You can easily remove the makeup under the eyes using this swab. For cleaning makeup brushes, use 2 parts cleansing water to 1 part water and use this mixture to clean and remove makeup residue off of your brushes.

I am still very sad that Memebox USA no longer sells products at their website. I am hoping that they will at least sell their house brands, of which Pony Effect is one of them. I think that these two products really do a great job of cleansing and are jam-packed with antioxidants, skin soothing and healing ingredients. I really love the cleansing water, as it leaves no sticky or tacky residue, doesn’t burn my eyes in case I accidentally get some water in my eyes and it just cleans nicely without any filmy layer on my skin. It is just like water but with great benefits! If you do not like scented products, you would really enjoy these two, as I could not pick up a scent at all from them. I will repurchase the Pony Effect Natural Purifying Cleansing Water once it is used up, as out of the two products I reviewed, I really like this one a lot.
Where To Purchase
It’s difficult. You can find Pony Effect Natural Purifying products at a couple of on-line sites. They do sell them at Gmarket and 11st, but the shipping is astronomical and it is not worth it. This is why I am so sad that Memebox is no longer selling items ~ we used to, in the USA, get Pony Effect products for good prices and decent shipping costs. I wish Memebox Korea would ship to the USA since Memebox USA has shut its doors on that avenue. If you are interested in the White Rabbit Cotton Sheets I have been using, you can read my review here and where to purchase them.
