This product was so hard to photograph ~ at least for me. It is so reflective and dark, that I tried to lighten up the photos a bit and remove the shine, so you could see the detail.  I apologize for the photos ~ this is actually the most adorable packaging!

Labiotte, Labiotte, Labiotte… who knew I would become so enamored of this brand? I have purchased their lip products, Lotus toner and eye shadow and now I have their Château Wine Sherbet Cleanser, courtesy of BB Cosmetic!  There are several types of oil cleansers ~ two of the more popular ones are the traditional liquid facial oil cleaners and an oil balm ~ or what is called Sherbet Cleanser, as it looks like sherbet ice cream.   Oil cleansers are the first step in the double cleansing method.

An oil cleanser helps remove dirt and makeup from your face.  All skin types can benefit from using an oil cleanser, even oily skin types like myself.  Don’t be afraid of oil!  I have oily skin and I use an oil cleanser daily to remove my stubborn and long wearing makeup.  Oil is gentle and soothing and just melts away makeup ~ just rinse well with warm water.  Double Cleansing is a method where you first use an oil cleanser to remove all of your makeup and dirt.  You apply the oil cleanser to your dry face and massage it in gently and it will loosen up and remove surface makeup, dirt, bacteria and debris on your face.  Then rinse off with warm water and prepare to do the 2nd step in double cleansing ~ a foam based cleanser.  Using a foam cleanser ensures that all of the oil residue that could be left on your face is removed and it also deep cleans into your pores and depending on the type of foaming cleanser you use, it can contain ingredients to help exfoliate dead skin cells as well.   The result is a fresh, clean face that is ready for your skin care products!  

Labiotte Château Wine Sherbet Cleanser comes packaged in a clear “barrel” that has a tin lid.   Removing the cleanser from the package, the 80 mL cleanser is housed in a lux wine goblet.  The goblet is a dark burgundy color, with a lighter brighter burgundy lid, as if it was filled with wine. The top unscrews to reveal a clear plastic insert and a spatula for scoping out the balm cleanser

Remove the clear plastic insert and the rosé pink cleanser comes in view ~ you can see how moist it is when I move the spatula through the cleanser.  It holds it shape in the goblet, but it is easy to scope out and it doesn’t have a crumbly texture ~ it is smooth and silky.  It does have a fruity grape scent to it.

This does contain mineral oil and actually, mineral oil is not bad for your skin, as it is a noncomedogenic ~ its molecules are too big to enter into your pores.  It also has great hydrating properties for your skin as well.  Three other oils are included, known for their moisturizing properties: Olea europaea (olive) oil is full of antioxidants, such vitamins A and E, and helps reduce inflammation, prevents acne, doesn’t clog pores and helps soften and condition your skin.  Vitis vinifera (grape) seed oil is a light and gentle oil, rich in beta-carotene and vitamin C, vitamin D and vitamin E.  Moringa oleifera seed oil is packed full of nutrients to help with oil production, helps reduce acne, blackheads and hyper-pigmentation while speeding up wound healing.

This contains 1 ppm of premium French wine, which contains antioxidant sepivinol, a polyphenol. It will help fight free radicals and help prolong cell life, revitalizing skin.

Eclipta prostrata reduces irritation and inflammation, melia azadirachta (neem) has anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and antimicrobial properties to help heal blemishes and other skin issues and mesembryanthemum crystallinum (crystalline iceplant) reduces skin discomforts, such as itching, inflammation, redness and pain.  Nelumbium speciosum (lotus) is an antioxidant that helps condition and hydrate your skin, as well as preventing acne breakouts, while prunus mume (Japanese apricot) helps tighten pores, hydrates and softens skin.   

This also contains a couple of AHA (alpha-hydroxy acids) ~ lactic acid (milk derived) and citric acid ~ these ingredients will help gently exfoliate your skin, removing dead skin cells and promoting cellular turnover, helping your skin regain an even skin tone and brightness.

Now, this is a cleanser and normally  I would say that a cleanser isn’t on your face that long to reap these benefits, but this is an oil balm cleanser ~ so you will be massaging this into your skin for about a minute or two before rinsing off.  With repeated use, I am sure these benefits will add up over time.

You can see that the soft texture of the balm quickly melts into a slightly milky oil on my hand.  How does it work in action?  I used some of my heavy duty, smudge proof, long wearing makeup on my hand  ~ matte lippies, mascara, eyeliners and liquid eye shadow ~ and applied a dollop of the cleansing balm.  I massaged it into my skin for about a minute and rinsed with water.  It didn’t take off all of the makeup ~ but most of it.  In fact, this cleans a lot better than most oil balms I have used.

Now, this doesn’t bother me that much as I would always follow up with a foaming cleanser to remove any traces of oil and excess makeup.  However, for demonstration purposes, I added a tiny bit more of the sherbet cleanser and massaged it in, rinsed off ~ the end result is all makeup traces are gone!  This doesn’t leave my face oily or leave a film on my face, as I do rinse well and then follow up with a foaming cleanser.  Another benefit is that this product doesn’t cause burning in my eyes ~ since I removed eye makeup, it will get into my eyes, but there is no burning or stinging!

Final Thoughts

Really cute packaging, wine, smells good and cleans very well!  In fact, I think has the same or better cleansing power than Banila Clean It Zero. Labiotte Château Wine Sherbet Cleanser has a lot of positives to it and I think this looks so pretty on my already crowded bathroom sink area!!   This doesn’t burn my eyes, doesn’t leave a film or feel greasy on my skin, has a light grape-y scent, just melts my makeup off and doesn’t clog my pores or cause blemishes or other skin irritations.  I highly recommend this cleanser ~ you do need a wine goblet in your bathroom!!  Many thanks to BB Cosmetic for sending me this product to review.
