Treat Yo Self Sunday Spa Night!

Sunday night.. it is the only night out of the week where I can kick back and indulge myself in some new products and do some intensive “care taking” on my feet and hands.   I can also take more time with my nightly skin care routine, usually watching a great movie or TV show and it helps me get in a better frame of mind to start the new work week.

Believe it or not, I don’t always oil cleanse nightly!! hahaha   I oil cleanse in the morning, but night time can be a hassle.   I sometimes just use a wipe and then a foaming cleanser.  On Sunday nights, there is always time for the double cleanse method.

What is Double Cleansing?  Double Cleansing is a method where you first use an oil cleanser to remove all of your makeup and dirt.   Don’t be afraid of oil!  I have oily skin and I use an oil cleanser to remove my stubborn and long wearing makeup.   You apply the oil cleanser to your dry face and massage it in gently and it will loosen up and remove surface makeup, dirt, bacteria and debris on your face.  Then rinse off with warm water and prepare to do the 2nd step in double cleansing ~ a foam based cleanser.  Using a foam cleanser ensures that all of the oil residue that could be left on your face is removed and it also deep cleans into your pores and depending on the type of foaming cleanser you use, it can contain ingredients to help exfoliate dead skin cells as well.   The result is a fresh, clean face that is ready for your skin care products!  

I’ve been using Ciracle Absolute Deep Cleansing Oil for a month now and I have been really enjoying it.  It really doesn’t have a scent to it at all, so if you are looking for a cleansing oil that is odorless, this would be it. It does contain mineral oil, but that doesn’t mean it is bad for your skin.  In fact, mineral oil  is a noncomedogenic ~ its molecules are too big to enter into your pores. It also has great hydrating properties for your skin as well. It also has vitamin E, ubiquinone and green tea seed oil, which are antioxidants.  This light weight oil doesn’t make my face feel greasy at all and it is really gentle.  And effective!!  Look at the cleansing power of this oil ~ it pretty much removed all of the stubborn makeup on my hand. I don’t use powder eye shadows or normal lipsticks for my cleansing tests ~ water can remove those!!

After you oil cleanse  your face, you have to go back and use a foaming or gel cleanser to remove any traces of oil.   Petitifee D-Off Phyto Foam Cleanser was sent to me for review purposes by RoseRose Shop ~ I was interested in this because of the mint and fermented rice extracts in this product ~ D-Off stands for Dust Off, which means that it is a really deep cleaning foam, so I do expect a higher pH level on this product.  I have oily skin and I can tolerate higher pH levels but I will also have some suggestions for lower pH cleansers after this mini review.  The foaming cleanser has natural mint leaf for astringent properties and seven herbal ingredients that will help penetrate your pores and remove deeply embedded excess oil, dirt and impurities.  It also has fermented rice!! Rice ferment filtrate is full of amino acids, over a 100, organic acids, saccharides, vitamins, nucleic acids and esters. It helps keep   your skin clear and moisturized, while helping to even out your skin tone by reducing hyper-pigmentation. Due to its own natural alcohol content, it is an astringent and also contains antibacterial properties to help control blemishes.  I did do a pH level test on it and it is as I thought ~ pretty high at about 9 to 9.5.  Now, I have used pH cleansers that were this high, was blissfully ignorant of the level range (until I tested it years later)  and had no issues ~ one of my favorites is Missha’s Fermented foam series.

Well, my face will test this out! This creamy foam has little green mint capsules in it and has the most amazing apple scent to it!  It really has a dense thick foam and it cleans very well ~ there is only a little  residue from the makeup, and since I didn’t use an oil cleanser prior to this test, I think this foam cleans very well.  And the final verdict on that high pH level ~ my face didn’t feel stripped or dry, so perhaps my natural oiliness kept it at bay.   I LOVE the scent of this cleanser and the thick foam, but you will have to decide if you can use higher pH levels on cleansers.

Low pH Cleansers

These cleansers are low pH and I have reviewed them here in the past.  I have linked the review to the name of the product

  • Ciracle Anti Blemish Teatree Wash  This is my absolute favorite go-to cleanser.   It is by far the best one I have used for oily and blemish prone skin.  pH: 5.5 ~ 6
  • Innisfree Bija Trouble Cleansing Gel I love the Bija line from Innisfree and this gel, even though it doesn’t have a lot of foaming action, is very effective as a second step cleanser.  Don’t be confused like I was and try to use it as an oil cleanser (ahaha)  pH: 4 ~ 5
  • cosRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser  This isn’t my favorite low pH cleanser, but I wanted to include one that could be used for other skin types besides oily.  This seems to be a fan favorite and it does do a good job.  pH 5.5 ~ 6

Sunday nights means I can clip, file and shape my finger nails and I can do a foot treatment.  Since I cannot do foot peels weekly, I look for products that might help softening the skin on my feet.  I also love to try out new facial sheet masks as well


I think that the Skinfood Yuja Water Whitening Ampoule Mask  might be a limited run, although they have a full line of the Yuja products at RoseRose Shop.   I did purchase a few of these to try them out and these contain organic Goheung Yuja extracts, which are a citrus fruit ~ Skinfood describes it as such: “Contains yuja extract and moisturizing yuja oil from uncontaminated Goheung city. The yuja fruits in SKINFOOD’s Yuja Water C line are Goheung organic yujas, grown by artisan Taehwa Park, Korea’s only and first yuja artisan. Healthy skin starts with healthy food, and our yujas are the cream of the crop.”   Yuja has a high concentration of Vitamin C ~ more than 3 times than lemons and it will help brighten your skin tone, is a powerful anti-oxidant, combating free radicals, helping stimulate the production of collagen, keeping your skin toned and firm.   Learn more about the benefits of Yuja here.

For those who are not aware, yuja is the same as yuzu, from the fruit Citrus Junos Tanaka, which resembles sudachi citrus and it is very aromatic.  This mask smells delightful, like a light lemony scent and has a refreshing and cooling effect on my face.  The mask material is very strange ~ I don’t think it is cotton, but I am not sure.  The weave is stiffer than what I am used to but the fit is really good and I left  this mask on for 25 minutes ~ and I did notice an all over brightening effect after removing this mask and my face felt very moisturized and dewy ~ the brightening effect is from both yuja (200mg) and niacinamide ingredients and the deep moisturize is from the yuja oil (.2mg) .  If you love to try new sheet masks, I recommend that you snap this one up, as I do think it is a limited run.  I did translate the back of the mask sheet so the ingredients listed here are the ones that they had listed

Description:  You should try Yuja if your skin looks oily on the surface, but is dehydrated inside, concerned about dull-looking skin, have dry skin but don’t like creams that are too oily or thick, you want glowing skin and/or you are looking to hydrate and brighten skin at the same time

While I am sheet masking, I decided to give my nails a treatment from the brand of the Elves (ahaha)  ~ no really, Koelf does state “The nails of an elf“.  Koelf Pink Nail Treatment Pack, courtesy of RoseRose shop.  This intensive nutrition pack actually has 20 stickers, so here are two full hand treatments here.  Unlike other nail treatments, this is not a moisturizing cream pack that you put over your nails.  These stickers are infused with ingredients to help strengthen your nails, such as keratin, calcium and collagen along with the moisturizing glycerin and antioxidant vitamin E.  Tartaric acid will help brighten and lighten your nails especially if you wear a lot of nail polish and your nails are discolored due to that. It is recommended to wear them for at least one hour.  I left mine on for 2 hours ~ in the winter time, I suppose I can wear mittens over my hands and wear them as an overnight treatment.  These will peel off easily, so that is why I couldn’t wear them overnight ~ it is TOO hot right now to wear mittens to bed!

  • Calcium, keratin, collagen and plant extracts supply nutrients and cuticle protection, while strengthening your nails
  • Band type adhesion pack for nails that are damaged from frequent nail polish coloring.

These have a sticky cushy pad of product on a cute “band-aid” product ~ it has hearts on the flip side.  These are much easier to apply than the “cones” of nail masks that I have tried in the past as all these require is to remove them from the paper and apply like a band-aid over my nails.   After removing, I didn’t see any noticeable difference but I expected that ~ these are packs that drive deep down into your nail bed to strengthen them.  Over time, this will help keep your finger nails healthy and strong. Finish up with a good hand cream after you remove them ~ RoseRose Shop carries one of my favorites ~ Skinfood Shea Butter Honey ~ they also have other scents too.

And to have the feet of an elf, I will be wearing these foot patches by Koelf ~ their Callus Care Heel Patch ~ another product received for review purposes from RoseRose Shop.   I’ve used callus heel patches before and they do kinda slip off while you sleep, so I do suggest putting on a light cotton footie or sock.  This pack contains 3 full treatments, so there are 3 packages, with 2 heel patches in each one. 

  • Callus Removal: Containing Urea and Papain to dissolve hard calluses gently
  • Nutrients and Moisture: Oriental medicine and plant extracts supply nutrients and moisture deep into rough and cracked calluses
  • Protective Layer: It helps create a protective layer on damaged skin, making skin soft and silky

This has both BHA (salicylic acid) and AHA (glycolic acid, citric acid and tartaric acid) which are both exfoliators and will gently soften and remove dead skin cells from your feet.   This has the same cushy sticky pad with the ingredients like the Koelf Pink Nail treatment and I just slap these on my clean feet and then put socks on.  I had some really dry rough spots on my heels and in the morning, I noticed that it was moisturized and I didn’t see the cracks in my skin.  However, it came back several hours later, which just means that in order to get the benefits of this product, you need to apply these over a period of time ~ which is why there are 3 full treatments in one package.  These are very affordable, btw, so I think I might need to stock up on these patches as they are a great maintenance product while I am in-between foot peels.

Bed time!!  Time to moisturize my face…  Some people have more steps, and I am one of them, but if you just need to have the bare bones, I suggest a good serum, wrinkle spot treatment, sleeping pack and lip balm.   Neulii Snail Bee Anti Wrinkle Serum (not pictured) is a fantastic anti-wrinkle serum~ I wrote a review here and it hydrates and repairs your skin.

I like to add some anti-wrinkle spot treatments around my eyes, lips and between my eyebrows ~ those 11 lines.  I am a becoming a huge fan of Innisfree Eco Science Wrinkle Spot Essence AD   This spot essence contains native Jeju Island marine plants, which are rich in vitamins and minerals.  They will help strengthen your skin’s moisture barrier.  They use a special sea plant biotechnology that will help your enhance your skin’s ability to protect it from free radicals and other damaging factors, such as stress.   This is free from parabens, synthetic fragrance, colorants, animal ingredients, mineral oil and imidazolidinyl urea and it contains intense moisturizing and hydrating ingredients, such as glycerin, beta-glucan and sqaualane.   It also has a fantastic antioxidant in oleanolic acid and full of seaweed and sea plant extracts 

This has got a nice pointed tube applicator and the product has an almost stringy texture as if it had snail slime in it, but it doesn’t. The following image is from Innisfree Korea, so you can see how bouncy this essence is.

The scent is a very light citrus, so light that I can barely tell it is there.  There is an immediate and visible effect of softening fine lines and wrinkles, with soft and smooth skin.  This increases my moisture/oil level by 46%.   This is a fantastic spot wrinkle treatment and I plan on purchasing this forever!   I am surprised this product doesn’t get more reviews or notice ~ it really is a sleeper item.  I will probably  write a more in-depth review in several months and have more details.

One of my favorite sleeping packs is by Holika Holika ~ their Honey Sleeping Pack.  And quite honestly, all three types are fine.  These smell fantastic too ~ blueberry really does smell like sweet blueberry honey and acerola has a cherry like scent.  Canola is strictly honey.  Holika Holika Honey Sleeping Pack is one of my top choices for a honey sleeping pack.  A sleeping pack is a intense moisturizing cream/gel that is applied to your face as the last step in your skincare routine before going to bed.  It locks in all of the nutrients and creates a moisture barrier, so that your skin will be working on healing and rejuvenating while you sleep.  You do not wash it off until the morning, when you wake up.  

Holika Holika Honey Sleeping Pack is not sticky, applies smoothly and  absorbs quickly ~ in fact, I usually let it dry and then apply again before I go to bed.  My skin is so baby soft and smooth in the morning.  The jar is adorable, in the shape of a little honey pot.  This is a gel sleeping pack and as I mentioned, it is not heavy or sticky.   This is perfect for ladies who have oily skin ~ I have never broken out in acne using this product.  The 3 versions are:

  • Canola:  Brightening, prevents premature aging of the skin, smooths wrinkles, moisturizes.  20% rapeseed flower extracts, 20% honey extracts
  • Blueberry:  Superfood, tightens enlarged pores and moisturizes intensively.  20% blueberry extracts, 20% honey extracts
  • Acerola: Rich in antioxidants and vitamin C, moisturizes and softens the skin.  20% acerola extracts, 20% honey extracts

I have tried all three of these versions and they are top notch!  I know when cosRX came out with their non-honey Honey sleeping pack last year, I purchased it and I will have to say this product is so much better for my skin.  Oh ~ is it hydrating?  You bet!  Moisture levels were around a 75% increase after application.  Pretty darn good, I would say.

Don’t forget your lips!  Several years ago, I fell in love with Innisfree Canola Honey lip balm, but that was in a glossy gel formula.  They since discontinued that, but they came out with 3 lip balms and now some lip tints (click here) in a traditional stick tube formula.  These are all great and I really like Innisfree Canola Honey Lip Balm in Deep Moisture.   These don’t taste like honey, but it is moisturizing and hydrating.  It has jojoba and sweet almond oils to help protect your lips and keep moisture in and mango seed butter, which will provide softness and moisture.  According to Innisfree, the best time for the honey bees to collect the pollen from yuchaekkul (rapeseed flowers ~ canola) is in April, as that is when it is most optimal for the honey to produce protein and flavonoids.   This has unsaturated fatty acids, which are rich in vitamin E and will help your lips be more firm and elastic.

I wear a lot of matte lipsticks so keeping my lips chap-free is important, otherwise, I should quit my day job and become an extra on The Walking Dead.   A lot of us neglect our lips in our night time routine and it is so easy ~ just keep a tube of your favorite lip balm on your night stand. I have a little basket filled with some products that I might need at night time.  As you go to bed, just grab your lip balm and swipe on  ~ easy peasy!

It doesn’t take that much money or time to give yourself a little extra treat to start out the work or school week.  Many of the products I reviewed here are fairly inexpensive and work really well.  With the exception of three products sent to me for review purposes (Petitfee and Koelf), I purchased all of the other items and have repurchased many of them, such as the Innisfree, Holika Holika and Ciracle products.  How do you treat yourself?  Do you have a Sunday Spa Night ~ what is your extra step that you add to your skincare routine?
