I am a HUGE fan of the Taiwanese Naruko Night Gellys ~ those are their versions of a sleep pack ~ they are very hydrating, gel-creams that work fantastic for my oily skin.  The Tea Tree Night Gelly (review)  is my HG for when my skin cannot cope anymore with blemishes and oil, but I have also tried other night gellies as well.  I saw this product at Naruko and I love a good hyaluronic acid cream ~ cosRX (review) makes one that is very intensely moisturizing, but I can only use that in the cooler months.  I wanted one that was going to be good for warmer months, so when Rachel at Naruko USA asked me if there was anything of interest at their shop, I asked for this one with the impossibly long name of Naruko DermaLane 1000-Molecule Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Night Gelly.

Skin Type/Concerns: Oily, blemish prone, aging skin with fine lines/wrinkles and hyper-pigmentation (both sun damage and PIH)

So this long name 1000 Molecule Hyaluronic Acid Night Gelly will be super moisturizing, hydrating and in other words ~ a water bomb.  It will help retain the radiance and the resiliency of your skin, achieve a water/oil balance and enhance your skin’s self-defense system, according to the description. 

Naruko loves their proprietary special blends, which I will touch quickly on as this is full of good ingredients.  With sodium hyaluronate, sodium PCA, glycerin and polyquaternium-51, this gelly will attract moisture continuously and will help dehydrated skin be soft and supple.  To keep all of this moisture locked in, proprietary SK-influx® Ceramide Complex, a blend of ceramide 1, ceramide 3 and ceramide 6, along with pentavitin (saccharide isomerate), cramebe seed oil, panthanol and trehalose, will help to strengthen your moisture retention barrier and make sure your skin does not loose all of that hydrating water. I was originally concerned about this gelly as it had so many humectants~ as the last step of a skincare routine, you should be sealing moisture in and humectants can actually dry out your skin if you do not have a protective barrier over it. I am glad to see that they have a robust list of occlusives and emolliants.  This also has CENTECELL™ which extracts only the pure active ingredients from centella asiatica ~ an herbal ingredient that will soothing and anti-inflammatory and there are two other important anti-aging ingredients with fermented olive leaf, to help aid in the production of collagen and niacinamide for brightening your skin tone.

However, what is the most interesting blend is the “5-Element Beauty Factor“, which is made up of fermented minerals which are extracted from beer yeast. I reached out to Naruko to find out more about this complex and found out that it is called ABC Bio-Chelate 5/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate.   Minerals cannot be produced within the human body, but they are key in our health ~ we couldn’t assimilate vitamins and certain enzymatic reactions would never take place without these inorganic compounds . The complete ingredients are water, saccharomyces/zinc ferment, saccharomyces/copper ferment, saccharomyces/magnesium ferment, saccharomyces/iron ferment, saccharomyces/silicon ferment  and leuconostoc/radish root ferment filtrate, which is a natural antimicrobial.   This complex is used in skin and hair care products, as well as makeup.  (source from In Cosmetics)

Active Concepts, which produces this fermented mineral blend, ran studies on how it would work topically on your skin, using a DNA micro-array with 21,629 different DNA fragment.  They found that it enhanced your skin’s barrier function, provided anti-inflammatory benefits, increased growth factors while decreasing stress related factors and increased your cellular energy production. Naruko DermaLane 1000-Molecule HA Night Gelly comes in a 118 mL blue tub, which is larger than most of the night gellies I have tried from Naruko.   The tub comes in a box with a small spatula and one thing I really appreciate with Naruko is that all of their products have the ingredients listed in English.  This makes it easy to find out what is in my skincare, as my translations skills are very rudimentary!    This is a nice gel ~ it look to me to be on the creamy side of gels but it is lightweight.  Now, just because it is lightweight doesn’t mean it isn’t hydrating ~ this reminds me of some belif products, as it is such a water bomb on my skin.  Naruko DermaLane 1000-Molecule HA Night Gelly has that wonderful Naruko jelly texture that they are famous for ~ and it spreads and absorbs fully into my skin without any stickiness or greasy residue. If you use too much, just try and pat it in, wait about 10 minutes or so ~ it will sink into your skin.  It just needs a bit more time if you overdo the application.  You can either use the spatula or clean fingers ~ since I am the only one using this gelly, I use my fingers.   This is pretty much odorless ~ if there is a scent, it is so faint I cannot detect or it is so bland, that it just doesn’t register to my nose.  I love how hydrating this is and how quickly it absorbs, leaving behind smooth and soft skin ~ I could actually use this as a daytime moisturizer!   

This not only normalized my oily skin ~ it reduced the oiliness by 32% and increased my moisture by 45% on average.  I am really excited about the oil reduction with the increased moisture.  Oily skin doesn’t mean that you have hydrated skin ~ it just means you have oily skin.  My skin gets dehydrated just like dry skin, only it manifests into other symptoms, such as dull, clogged skin with cystic acne. Keeping it hydrated while reducing oil reveals healthy skin a normal glow.

This night gelly was a life saver for me when I was using all of those PHA cream products.  The PHA cream products would dry my skin out, but by applying this over that layer, my skin did not dry out and was kept hydrated so that I awoke to refreshed and smooth skin.

Final Thoughts

Don’t let this functional plastic blue tub fool you.  This might not have super sexy ingredients or have some wow-skintertainment factor, but this night gelly WORKS.  If you have oily or oily/combination skin, I am telling you to try this one.  If  you loved the Tea Tree Jelly, you should try the DermaLane HA Night Gelly.  I found my skin was super hydrated, even in the morning and my skin feels really good, without feeling oily or greasy.  Now, I have been using this with other centella products, but since this does have centella in it as well as niacinamide , I feel that this Night Gelly also helped keep my blemishes under control while helping reduce my PIH and redness. Did I mention that my skin FEELS REALLY GOOD and quite frankly, looks really good?  This gelly is such a creamy-gel yet lightweight and a drink of water for my skin.  This is great for the warmer months as it is cooling and refreshing on my skin, without irritating it and I am going to start storing it in the frig just to have even a more cooling effect, as it is so warm out here now.   Have you tried this product yet?
