Unboxing December 2015 MaskGenie!

Genie gave a bit of a spoiler with one of the masks this month on her IG account, but other than that, I had no idea what was in this month’s pouch!!

MaskGenie is a monthly subscription of masks ~ facial sheet mask, body masks, wash off masks and hair masks.  The owner lives in Hong Kong and she (Genie) tries out the masks and determines which ones she feels are worthy for her customers to try.   Shipping is extremely fast ~ within a week, I get my pouch.  You can order the 8-10 mask pouch for $23.99 and that includes shipping and she just doesn’t ship to the USA ~ MaskGenie ships all over the world.  The 5 pouch mask set is being discontinued starting January 2016, as there wasn’t a lot of subscribers to that and the 10 pouch is now 8 to 10 masks, as Genie wants to be able to add in higher end (more expensive) masks to the pouch ~ the value will still be there, however, it is just that some masks will be more expensive.  I am looking forward to this, as most of the masks I use are the lower to medium price range.

One of the things I really appreciate from Genie is that she does an unboxing video once she sends out the pouches.   It is really great that she cares about her customers to provide this extra service and she explains a bit about the mask, why she choose it, where it is from and so on.    You can watch this month’s unboxing here

December Pouch Revealed!

Etude House Shea Butter Moonlight In Spoon Blending Sleeping Cream (Korea)  These are cute little “spoons” with a sleeping pack (cream) housed inside the oval spoon part.  When you remove the lid on the spoon, you will see a golden yellow herb water-gel and cream, separated ~ I’ve read that some people are unaware of this and think the product has gone bad ~ this is normal!  It should be separated.  You have to snap off the “handle”, which you will use to stir the mixture.  Believe it or not, this small container has enough product for 2 to 3 uses on your face!  I have used tea tree, honey and seaweed from the “spoon” series from Etude House and they are convenient, inexpensive and fun to use.   This one is made with shea butter, so it is extremely hydrating and moisturizing, which is fantastic for the winter months.  Full Size RV $2.00

Gel Ingredients:  water, butylene glycol, glycerin, alcohol, anthemis nobilis flower extract(0.3137%), lavandula angustifolia (lavender) flower/leaf/stem extract(0.3137%), mentha arvensis leaf extract(0.3136%), hydroxyethylcellulose, carbomer, tromethamine, disodium EDTA, phenoxyethanol, ethylhexylglycerin, yellow 5 (CI 19140), red 33 (CI 17200)  cosDNA.com analysis

Cosme/Nakumura Natural Foot Patch – Titanium  (Japan)  I do like detox products and this one is for my feet! The premese of these patches is that you take the pad and place on the sole of your foot and then take the grey charcoal patch and stick it over the pad.   This is an overnight treatment and in the morning,  the white pad will be discolored as it  has drawn out toxins from your body.  I am not sure if that is true or not, but I have used these in the past in different flavors (such as red pepper, lavender) and they all have different benefits.  The Titanium patch (pink box) is supposed to help increase circulation and make your feet feel refreshed.  Based on the Japanese website, these are made with dextrin, bamboo sap, houttuynia cordata, loquat, chitosan, vitamin C, along with titanium and shea butter.   RV $6.00

In the ancient Chinese art of acupuncture it’s well known that the feet are a prime location for acupuncture points, with more than 60 of the 360 points over the entire body. Areas on the soles of the feet affect the stomach, intestines, kidney, knee, shoulders as well as many other internal organs. Therefore it makes perfect sense to use this area for overall body cleansing. Of course they can be attached to specific problem areas, for example the small of the back to help relieve back pain, etc.  source

Description: Natural foot patch is made from natural tree extracts and comes in a variety of editions. The foot detox patch works off the concept of reflexology and is purported to stimulate reflex points on the feet, which in turn are said to restore balance to the entire body and to remove the waste from the body. It can also helps to relieve the tiredness of your feet. This mainly helps to promote blood circulation and makes you feel more refresh!  This can also help to stimulate muscle relaxation

How To Use: The pads are easy to apply & adhere to the bottom of the foot with ease. If you are sensitive to scents this isn’t over whelming at all. When you peel the pads off they do leave some residue on your foot from the detox packet as well as some sticker residue. The packet as well as your foot will damp and the color of the powder will change to a dark color. It is a little gross looking but you can feel like it do the job. Overall it helps you to get a better rest feeling and become more energetic than usual compared to the couple weeks before if you continue to use it.

Sister Diary Mask Pearl Bird’s Nest Mask (Taiwan)  Another Sister Diary mask!  I love these masks and to think I thought they were a rip off of My Beauty Diary masks.  Their Apple masks are so much better than MBD version but the problem is that Sister Diary is so hard to find!  Beautius.com is the only website I know of that carries Sister Diary and that ships internationally.    The Pearl Bird’s Nest mask is made with pearls to help brighten your skin tone and swiftlet bird nest extract, which helps moisturize, firm and hydrate your skin  RV $1.99

Tsaio Cherry Blossom and Pearl Mask (Taiwan)  Such cute packaging!  Another Taiwan mask, of which I do agree with Genie ~ Taiwanese masks are now my favorite type of masks!  This is a brightening mask and the description is funny “Remove dullness, leave skin tender as cherry blossoms.”  Tender as cherry blossoms! haha  I think my skin is too old to be that tender, but I am pretty jazzed about trying out another brand new, unknown brand (to me, at least)    Genie gave this mask a very high rating and was very impressed with it.   RV $1.00

MaskGenie Review (source)

MaskGenie Challenge Mask 103: Tsaio Cherry Blossom & Pearl Brightening Mask (Taiwan) I’m absolutely in love with Taiwan masks, and I nearly almost prefer them over Korean masks! This mask has a slight flowery scent, but nothing too overwhelming. Drenched in essence, and it fit almost over my face, just except for the sides of my nose. The overall shape and adherence was pretty good, as it was quite a thin mask. I removed the mask after 30 minutes, and noticed the mask still to be wet except for the upper lip area. I massaged in the remaining essence, and my face was moisturised. My face does look brightened recently, perhaps it’s the change in skincare products, perhaps it’s the masks I’ve been using, who knows. Rating: 8.5/10

Ingredients: water/butylene glycol/prunus yedoensis leaf extract, water/glycerin/pearl powder/maris sal, camellia sinensis leaf extract, glycerin/water/ginkgo biloba leaf extract, niacinamide (vitamin B3),  ascorybyl glucoside, dipotassium glycyrrhizate, fragrance, butylene glycol, xanthan gum, polysorbate 20, methylparaben, trisodium EDTA, water  cosDNA.com analysis

LoveMore Red Pearl Barley Whitening Mask Sheet  (Taiwan)  This was in the Oriental Limited Edition pouch, so I am glad to see it in the normal subscription pouch, as not everyone ordered that Limited Edition.   Genie states that Lovemore masks are getting harder to come by in Hong Kong, and I do think that is because of her!!  She introduced a lot of customers to this brand earlier this year and we all went ga-ga over it!! haha    This is another whitening mask and contains not only red pearl barley (jobs tears), but mulberry extract and calendula extract.  Barley has many skincare benefits, as it contains vitamin C, antioxidants and minerals.  It is an anti-inflammatory and creates a protective barrier that keeps the skin from harmful pollutants.  It has proven to reduce inflammation and create a barrier to protect the skin from outside pollutants.   It also contains selenium, which protects your skin from free radical damage and maintains skin elasticity.  Skin elasticity improves skin tone, texture and firmness.  The antioxidants will also remove toxins and help reduce the signs of aging.  Barley also contains zinc, which helps with healing your skin.  The Red Pearl Barley, Bitter Gourd and Bamboo masks all look to be from the “Let’s Start From Here” series that highlights that native ingredients in Taiwan.  RV $1.90

Ingredients: cox lacryma-job (jobs tears) seeds/shell extract, morus alba bark (mulberry) extract, calendula officinalis flower extract, hydrolyzed hyaluroic acid, soluable collagen, sea water, sodium hyaluronate, dipropylene glycol, butylene glycol, glycerin, hydroxyethyl urea,  xanthan gum, chlorphenesin,2-phenoxyethanol, carbomer, iodopropynyl butylcarbamate, potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate, trethanolanmine, PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil, phenoxythanol, fragrance, water  cosDNA.com analysis

The Face Shop Pomegranate Grenade Mask (Korea)    Pomegranate extract is full of anti-oxidant properties to help combat free radicals and reverse the damage that free radicals cause.   This is a nourishing and moisturizing mask and The Face Shop’s Pom line is quite good ~ I’ve had a few of their products in this line and I did enjoy using them!  RV $2.50

Description:  This Pomegranate Face Mask reduces the appearance of the first signs of aging and helps improve skin’s elasticity. Rich in antioxidants, pomegranate provides skin with long-lasting hydration and a radiant complexion. The Face Shop Real Nature Mask Sheet, Pomegranate is a mask sheet that has pomegranate extract which is rich in Vitamin B1 and B2, as well as mineral. Gives elasticity and glossy look.

Aritaum Honey Fresh Essence Mask (Korea)  Aritaum is part of the AmorePacific company and their Aritaum masks are pretty good.  The only thing I find weird about them is that the featured ingredient is always the last in the list!  Go figure!   This does contain 2000 mg of honey extract, so maybe Aritaum just lists their ingredients in a strange way.   I do love using honey masks in the wintertime, as they are very moisturizing.   RV $1.00

Ingredients: Water, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil,  adenosine, sodium hyaluronate, sophora flavescens root extract, lonicere japonica (honeysuckle) flower extract, camellia sinensis leaf extract, prunus persica (peach) leaf extract, ginkgo biloba leaf extract, scutellaria baicalensis root extract, disodium EDTA, glycerin, Butylene Glycol,  PEG/PPG-17/6 copolymer, PEG-75, citrus paradisi (grapefruit) fruit extract, alcohol, xanthan gum, honey extract cosDNA.com analysis

I am really happy (again) with MaskGenie this month ~ 5 Taiwan masks, with several unknown brands, 1 Japanese foot detox patch and 4 Korean masks, pretty much tried and true.   I would love to see more Japanese masks in here one day and I am so happy that Genie is providing more Taiwanese masks too ~ the beer hops mask is the one I want to try the most!! I paid $23.50 for this pouch, which included shipping, and received a retail value of around $22.50.   A lot of these masks I would not have know to try without this service and in some cases, are very hard to come by in the USA and outside of Asian countries.

If you are interested in MaskGenie,  just go to her online store at www.skinilove.com  and you can place your order that way, which would be month by month OR if you think you want this to be a reoccurring subscription, email Genie at her FB page at and let her know to invoice you monthly.

Do you get this month’s pouch from MaskGenie?  What are you looking forward to trying out?

  1. Great mix of masks! I went back through your reviews and this seems like a good sub to find out about different types of masks. I went ahead and ordered for January. I like that I can buy it when I want it, and it’s not a monthly sub I have to keep up with. I have a lot of masks now, but a lot of the same brands. This looks like a great way to try some new ones out to see how I like them. Typically I just order from Beautius, found so many good masks on that site. I have such dry skin that I seem to be using masks a lot more now that the weather is colder and we’ve had to turn on the gas heat. Well now we’ve hit another warm spell…..strange winter!
