Unboxing November 2015 BirchBox

This month, I decided to get the curated box from YouTuber Tati from GlamLifeGuru, as I knew we were getting Birchbox’s new makeup line as a PYS choice already, and I guess I wanted to “play” it safe this month.  I am familiar with several of the items in the curated box and like them. Yeah, I know…boring.  I had such a nice box last month and I didn’t want that glow to end  ~ haha.

Honestly, I know nothing about this YouTuber and I don’t follow her.   That said, this box is nicely curated and it is very well done!

My Box Revealed!

Informational Card

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo   I love a dry shampoo ~ for my fine, straight hair, I use it as a texturizer to help thicken and give my hair more volume.   Also, if I am going out for the evening after a long day, dry shampoos will help soak up any oils in my naturally oily hair, leaving it clean and not greasy looking.  It is bad enough my hair is so straight and silky that I have elf-locks, but top it off with oil ~ it gets stringy looking by the end of the day.  Not a good look.  Living Proof usually doesn’t tempt me as a brand, but a dry shampoo will lure me in anytime! Give me all of the dry shampoos, Birchbox!!   Deluxe Size  1.8 oz RV $9.90

Description: This dry shampoo actually cleans hair. How? Fast-acting powders soak up not only oil, but also sweat and odor. Then Living proof’s patented molecules allow for easy removal, so hair looks, feels, and smells cleaner. Save time, wash less, live more.

Ingredients: Isobutane, Propane, Alcohol Denat, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Starch, Cellulose, Octafluoropentyl Methacrylate (Ofpma), Caprylyl Glycol, Dipropylene Glycol, Citronellyl Methylcrotonate, Hydroxyproplycellulose, Hydrated Silica, Cetrimonium Chloride, Zeolite, Ethylcellulose, Octoxynol-10, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Water/Eau/Aqua, Fragrance/Parfum, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenethyl Alcohol, Limonene, Citronellol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Benzyl Salicylate, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Citral, Linalool

Shiseido Ultimune Eye Power Infusing Concentrate  I actually received this in a recent Sephora haul as it was a featured that could be picked up for free with a $35.00 purchase ~  it was Asian/Asian-inspired skin care sampler, which had some really nice items.  I really like this eye cream quite a bit, it is more of a serum treatment than an eye cream, btw ~ it does have a slight scent but it is not unpleasant.  To stretch this out more, as it is a small sample and this is an expensive item, I follow the tip below ~ I mix this with my normal eye cream as this is a very concentrated eye cream.     Another area of mine where I am always looking for new products are eye creams,  as that is where I have some wrinkles that I would like to soften.     Sample Size 5mL RV  $21.67 (I wasn’t joking when I said this was very expensive stuff)

Description: The best way to get rid of fine lines, wrinkles, and dark circles? Stop them before they start! Strengthening skin’s immunity around the delicate eye area, this highly concentrated serum helps protect against environmental stressors that can lead to all visible signs of aging. In just four weeks, skin will look healthier, firmer, and more resilient, while wrinkles and dark circles will become less noticeable. Insider’s tip: Ultimune Eye Power Infusing Eye Concentrate boosts the benefits of your targeted eye cream.

Jouer Essential Lip Enhancer Conditioning Lip Treatment   I own the full sized version of this and this is a great lip product for the upcoming winter months.  It is also fantastic if you live near the water or in a desert area, as this will really soften your lips and reduce peeling and roughness.  It is a thick gloss/balm and despite what Jouer states, it has never given my lips a sheer pink color.  It is clear on me!   It does have a scent that is meh to me, but some people really like it.  Be careful if you have long hair and it is windy day ~ this stuff is sticky and will attract your hair to your lips in a nano-second 😉 Sample Size .15 oz  RV $7.27

Description: When we discovered Jouer, this miraculous balm was the first product we fell in love with and our affair is going strong. It’’s no surprise that we always have a tube of this on hand: It’s deeply moisturizing, smells amazing, and delivers the prettiest hint of sheer pink color. The best part? It minimizes the appearance of fine lines and boosts your lips with Maxi-Lip™, an ingredient that adds fullness without stinging or tingling.

Ingredients: polyisobutene, octyldodecyl stearoyl stearate, simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil, ozokerite, beeswax (cera alba), butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), ricinus communis (castor) seed oil, tocopheryl acetate, ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, ethylhexyl palmitate, tribehenin, sorbitan isostearate, palmitoyl oligopeptide, isopropylparaben, isobutylparaben, butylparaben, flavor (aroma). May contain (+/-): titanium dioxide (CI 77891), iron oxides (CI 77491, 77492, 77499), red 7 lake (CI 15850), yellow 5 lake (CI 19140)

LOC One & Done Shadow Stick in Day Trip  LOC (Love of Color) is Birchbox’s new makeup line ~ I believe they only have shadow sticks and lip crayons at this time.  Day Trip is described as a warm copper, but I find it to be more of a bright brass shade, not copper ~ copper is either a vibrant bright peach (if brand new) or a deep warm brown-peach hue (patina).  This is neither of those shade ~ it is mainly a brass golden shade with some peach mixed in.   This shadow stick does seem to be long wearing as once it set, I had to use makeup remover to get it off my hand, so it seems that this is a no budge, long wearing formula.   Not sure where I will use this shade on my eyes, as it is a big impractical.  I would think this would go in the corners of your eyes as a highlight, but the crayon is too stubby for that.    I do think that this shade with this design is poorly done from an application standpoint.  It is a very nice formula, however, and the color is a nice bright shade.   I think that Nite Owl (a deep plum) or Smoke Screen (grey) are more appropriate for this type of chubby shadow stick.  Full Size .05 oz RV $10.00

Ingredients: Isododecane, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Synthetic Wax, Hydrogenated Polydicyclopentadiene, Hydrogenated Poly(C6-14 Olefin), Hydrogenated Polydecene, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Polybutene, Silica, Nylon-12, Glyceryl Caprylate, Polyethylene, Cera Carnauba/Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax/ Cire de carnauba, Polyglyercyl-4 Diisostearate/Polyhydroxysterate/Sebacate, Synthetic Beeswax, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-Di-T-Butyl Hydrohydroxycinnimate MAY CONTAIN: Tin Oxide, CI 77019/Mica, CI 77499/Iron Oxides, CI 77491/Iron Oxides, CI 77891/Titanium Dioxide, CI 75470/Carmine, CI 77510/Ferric Ferrocyanide.

Avène Hydrance Optimale Hydrating Serum   I confess I have a major weakness for Avène  ~ they were the first brand to introduce me to a facial spray mist and they are a favorite of mine.    This is a very hydrating serum ~ I did try it out on my face, and immediately I could feel how soft and smooth my skin was where I applied it.   This serum has the same scent as their facial mist, which is a light, clean scent, and the serum’s texture is very light weight for such a hydrating product.   It is not greasy nor does it leave any residue that you can feel on your skin.   Sample Size 5mL RV $6.00

Description: Just as Avène has tapped into the Sainte-Odile spring, they’ve also tapped into a wealth of knowledge about hydration. They were able to pack a high concentration of thermal spring water into this powerful, paraben-free serum, providing long-lasting hydration to soothe dehydrated and sensitive skin. This serum enhances the effectiveness of any moisturizer or treatment product you choose to apply next.

Ingredients: Water (Avene Thermal Spring Water), Methyl Gluceth-20, PEG-12, Cyclopentasiloxane, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol Ceteth-3 Acetate, Polyacrylamide, Alcohol, Benzoic Acid, C13-14 Isoparaffin, Fragrance, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Laureth-7, PEG/PPG-18/18 Dimethicone, Phenoxyethanol, Phospholipids, Sodium Acetate, Sodium DNA, Tetrasodium EDTA  cosDNA.com analysis

I am glad I decided to play it safe with the curated box as I did get some really nice products.  I am bit disappointed that the color chosen for the LOC shadow stick was a golden shade, as those are usually highlighters and a chubby like stick is not really good for highlighting.  Other than that, I will use all of the products and am pretty excited to have another sample of the Shiseido eye concentrate and the Avène serum. This month’s RV of items is worth $54.84, which is one of the highest Birchbox values I can remember having!    I paid $10.00 for it, and I did have a “5 item” box , so I was able to review for 50 points plus 10 points for sharing on twitter.  Once again, once more with feeling,  I will say it again ~ Do your reviews, ladies!  That is money at the Birchbox shop and you don’t have to “write” a review, just give feedback on the sample.  The review that shows up on the page is different from BB points reviews.
