Unboxing July 2015 BirchBox

I have to say, this month for Birchbox was very much a rollercoaster ride.  When my box was loaded at my account on Birchbox, I saw a box that was from last year (and I wasn’t pleased with it)

  • Juice Beauty® STEM CELLULAR™ Repair Moisturizer
  • Supergoop!® Advanced SPF 37 Anti-Aging Eye Cream
  • RUFFIAN Nail Lacquer – Ambrosia
  • RUFFIAN Dressing Room Nail Lacquer Remover Towelettes
  • Ofra Universal Eyebrow Pencil
  • Harvey Prince Imperial Gardenia

Then, a few days later, it uploaded a new version and I still wasn’t too pleased with it:

  • Whish Three Whishes Body Butter
  • Marcelle Clay Mask
  • Benefit They’re Real! Push-Up Liner
  • stila Look at Me Liquid Lipstick
  • Bumble and bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil

I received my Birchbox the other day (finally!) and imagine my surprise when I opened it and it was different from what I had last seen under my account!!  Maybe BB needs to do this with my account all the time, because I am pretty pleased with my box! haha

July’s theme is “Go Bold”  ~ Summer is the season for wearing brights and taking risks—so dial up your beauty routine with this month’s picks.

amika Un.Done Texture Spray I love amika’s products ~ their blowout spray and perk up dry shampoo are really fantastic!  Does wonders for my limp, fine hair.   I am really excited to get this product, which is a texturizing spray.  I used this today and wow – it really gave my hair volume and texture, while smelling great!  It didn’t leave behind any white residue and it is “sexily messy”.   I didn’t find it crunchy but it will leave a more matte finish to your hair, so don’t use too much of it!  This will go on my “buy” list.  I totally recommend this spray for those of us with short to medium hair length, fine, straight and oily hair.   Sample Size .75 0z Value $3.40

Description: When we try for tousled, voluminous hair, we tend to look more tornado-tossed than windblown——or, just as bad, our strands stay stubbornly limp and flat. This styling spray from amika gives us loads of sexily messy, artfully effortless volume. And it’s so easy to use, we get just the right done-yet-undone look——without overdoing it——every time. This spray uses zeolite, a naturally occurring mineral, to build up volume. A mix of obliphica extract (sea buckthorn berry), which helps strengthen hair and boost shine, and an exclusive polymer blend help the formula bind to hair and add texture without making strands stiff, crunchy, or heavy.

Ingredients: Hydrofluorocarbon 152A, Butane, SD Alcohol 40-B, Disiloxane, VP/VA Copolymer, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Starch,Zeolite, Glycerin, Triethyl Citrate, PEG/PPG-18/18 Dimethicone, Fragrance, Hippophae Rhamnoides Extract, Water

Coola SPF 30 Organic Makeup Setting Spray I actually like receiving Coola products ~ their sunscreen always smells amazing and this is setting spray has SPF 30 in it, which is really nice.  It is made with cucumber and aloe vera, which soothes and heals, as well has hyaluronate acid, which is a powerful hydrating ingredient.    This setting spray is also supposed to leave a matte finish, which as a oily skin gal who fights the “dewy” look, I am really happy!  This has a bit of an herbal scent to it and it doesn’t leave my face wet, as the mist spray is very fine.    .34 oz  Value $7.20

Description: Thanks to the sun protection smarties from COOLA, this weightless, matte-finish mist is changing the sunscreen game. It protects our skin with broad spectrum SPF 30 while it also sets our makeup—so contoured cheeks and perfectly executed eye shadow look just as fresh at the end of the day. Packed with cucumber and aloe vera extracts, plus hydrating hyaluronic acid, it soothes and softens skin, locks in moisture, and reduces the appearance of pores, fine lines, and wrinkles

Active ingredients: Avobenzone (Sunscreen) 2.1%, Homosalate (Sunscreen) 3.5%, Octinoxate (Sunscreen) 3.5%, and
Octisalate (Sunscreen) 3.8%

Inactive Ingredients:
Alcohol (Organic), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract (Organic), Algae Extract (Organic), Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Organic Orange) Fruit Water, Cucumis Sativus (Organic Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Fragrance (Natural), Glycerin (Organic), Isodecyl Neopentanoate, PVP, Silica Silylate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Water

Macadamia Professional™ Weightless Moisture Leave-In Conditioning Mist  I always am the girl looking in thru the window when it comes to Macadamia Professional products.  I have fine, limp, oily hair and their products are designed for dry hair.   But yeah!!  They gave us oily, fine haired girls a product so I can actually come in out of the cold and try one of their fantastic smelling products.  This is a lightweight leave in conditioning product that is a MIST.    I love the scent of this product (like a macadamia cookie!)  and it is easy to apply on damp hair and my comb goes thru my fine hair without tangles.  I use this on my ends, as my scalp is more oily.  This is a huge sample and my hair is super soft and shiny when I use this.   Another recommendation for those of us with fine hair!  Deluxe Sample 3.3 oz Value $8.55

Description: When you have fine hair (or most hair for that matter), it can be difficult to find a product that conditions hair without weighing it down. Both a detangler and protector, this lightweight spray nourishes with macadamia oil and quinoa extract, while argan oil and silk amino acids help strengthen to protect breakage. One spritz gives our hair a weightless, snag-free finish.

• Macadamia Oil- rich in nourishing omega 7,5 and 3 fatty acids that promote healthy hair
• Argan Oil – rich in omega 9 fatty acid that helps to repair and strengthen hair
• Quinoa Extract – hydrates and provides hair with nutrients
• Collagen & silk amino acids – provides lightweight moisture and promotes tensile strength.

How to Use: Spray liberally on towel-dried hair. Comb through and style as usual. It can also be used instead of an in-shower conditioner for those with baby fine hair.

stila Look at Me Liquid Lipstick in Venezia   I knew I was going to loathe this color ~ all three colors that we got to pick our sample (this was it, btw) were all bright shades ~ bright red (Beso), bright red-orange (Venezia), bright hot pink (Bella).  This is a very bright coral-red shade and nope, not going to use it.  I wish Birchbox would have offered at least one muted shade, such as Aria, Dolce or Patina or even the plum shade of Amora.  I actually own one of these liquid lipsticks in Patina and it is very long lasting and it does stain lips very well.  This is very MATTE ~ exfoliate those lips, ladies!  This liquid lipstick will show every flaw you might have on your lips.  Mini Sample .05 oz  Value $6.67

Description: The creamy, matte formula glides on like a gloss—yet has the staying power of a stain—all without drying out your lips (thanks to nourishing vitamin E and avocado oil).

theBalm Balm Desert Bronzer/Blush It is unfortunate that I have recently received two bronzers in the last month ~ one from my LuxePineapple bag and the other from my Summer Jouer Le Matchbox.  Otherwise, I would have been thrilled to get this cute little sample with its Palm Desert-like graphics.  As it is, I have so many bronzers that this will be gifted or traded.  theBalm does make very nice products and I have been pleased with them.  Mini Sample .028 oz  Value $2.61

Ingredients: Mica, Dimethicone, Synthetic Wax, Caprylic/capric Triglyceride, Boron Nitride, Ptfe, Kaolin, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Isoeicosane, Polyethylene, Silica, Hydrogenated Lecithin. No swatches this time ~ but a close up of the colors in Stila and theBalm

This box is so much better that the last 2 months.  I was so worried with the Stila PYS and its bright color that I would loathe my box again.  I would have too, if it had been either box that was loaded originally.  But as it turns out, BB’s box loading issues turned out to be a happy surprise for me.  I am so happy to get TWO hair products that work for my hair type (could BB finally be catching on??), the Coola product is small enough for me to put in my purse and try it out during these hot muggy summer days and even though I am on bronzer-overload and won’t use it, theBalm is a really great product.  As I stated, I would have used it if I hadn’t received 2 full sized bronzers in less than a month recently.  I paid $10.00 for my Birchbox and received products valued at $28.43.   I can say that the two hair products will be ones I will purchase at Birchbox.   I hope that next month is just as fantastic as this month!
