So, Mishibox is the newest player for K-Beauty subscription boxes and they have been teasing us for months now with their upcoming release.  I was able to get their first box ever and it finally arrived yesterday.   What is Mishibox?

Okay, enough with that ~ let’s look and see what I got!  The packaging is adorable ~ the bunny logo is so cute and everything was nicely packaged in paper crinkles and wrapped in teal tissue paper.

Informational Card

banila co. Clean It Zero Cleaning Balm I have used this before and it is my Holy Grail oil balm cleanser product.  This is a nice little sample and good for traveling.   I will repeat my review here, as I did go into detail about this product last year.  Mini Sample 7 g Value $1.54

This is Korea’s number 1 cleansing cream and it has a sherbet-like texture.  This is good for all skin types and contains acerola, papaya and herbal extracts to help moisturize the skin.  I like to take a small bit of this, you do not need a lot of cleanser, and massage it into my face.  This cleanser just melts into a liquid and cleans my skin.  It has a light cherry blossom scent, which does disappear once you start using the product on your face.   I  do not wipe the cleanser off, as I don’t like that method, so I use some warm water to remove the balm and then follow up with a cleansing foam and then my cleansing water.

Ingredients: Mineral Oil, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, PEG-20 Glyceryl Triisostearate, PEG-10 Isostearate, Polyethylene, Butylene Glycol, Water, Rubus Suavissimus (Raspberry) Leaf Extract, Bambusa Arundinacea Stem Extract, Aspalathus Linearis Leaf Extract, Viscum Album (Mistletoe) Leaf Extract, Angelica Polymorpha Sinesis Root Extract, Carica Papaya (Papaya) Fruit Extract, Malpighia Glabra (Acerola) Fruit Extract, Epilobium Angustifolium Leaf Extract, BHT, Butylparaben, CI 16255, CI 15985, Fragrance  cosDNA.com analysis

Oh no, MINERAL OIL!!  Actually mineral is not bad for your skin, as it is a noncomedogenic ~ its molecules are too big to enter into your pores.  It also has great hydrating properties for your skin as well.  I do not like to have mineral oil around my eyes, however, so I do not use this to remove eye makeup ~ I use my Secret Key Oil Free Lip & Eye Makeup Remover for that.    Other good stuff ~ Papaya Fruit Extract are exfoliant enzymes which help remove dead skin cells ~ Acerora Extract (aka cherry) is a potent antioxidant, with Vitamin A and C.

I am using my BIG jar of Clean It Zero (Original) to show you what this looks like

Top:  Just a little bit ~ about the size of an almond.  I put too  much on my hand here for display purposes

Bottom:  All I did was gently massage it in and it immediately liquified.

Benton Honest Cleansing Foam I have tried this foam before and one of the issues I do have is the higher pH level ~ I use this as a body wash.   This isn’t a fantastic cleansing foam, otherwise, I would use it despite its pH level.  I will give you a quick overview of my review of this foam ~ if you wish to read the original review, please click here.

This product does contain Palm Oil, but I asked Benton about it they used sustainable palm oil, and their response was that they are using RSPO-certified sustainable palm oil in this product. The scent is a fresh, clean soap scent.   Benton Honest Foam Cleanser looks to have a pH level of 7 – 8, which is high for a facial cleanser.    Some of the colors look to be lower, but since some are higher, I am going to give this that range.  I would not say it is a 9 or 10.   I am not an expert in pH level testing so that is why I have included the 3 photos so you can review this yourself and draw your own conclusions.  I also read and took the photos of the strip when it was still wet, so it will bump up the reading about .4.

I didn’t find it drying on my face, but it didn’t wow me either.  I used this foam as a body wash or brush cleanser.  Sample Size 8 g Value .65 cents

Product Description:  We called it the Benton Honest Cleansing Foam because you could be reassured of using the product due to its honest ingredients used in making the product.  In order to have a healthy face wash, Benton Honest Cleansing Foam cleanses fatigued skin caused by various stress and pollution. This natural cleansing foam not only cleanses your face but further moisturizes your skin to minimize dryness of your skin.

Benton Snail Bee High Content Mask Pack Again, I am just repeating myself here, I have used these and really like these masks!   I find them to be a refreshing and soothing mask and did the job.   I love the Benton Snail Bee line ~ it is one of my favorite lines in K-Beauty and it seems to work on all skin types.   Value $3.00

It provides a rich infusion of moisture and nutrients to the skin to help improve skin texture.  Snail Bee High Content Mask Pack is for all types of skin including sensitive.  Instead of water, this product uses Camellia Sinensis Leaf Water, Snail secretion filtrate, Bee venom and EGF to cleanse your rough and damaged skin from various stresses and poluttion.  In addition to the skin-soothing, moisture supply and skin tone improvement functions, arbutin and adenosine contents in this product will help whiten your skin and remove wrinkles.

Althaea Rosea is not a rose ~ it is part of the Mallow family (Malvaceae).  It is used as an emollient and an anti-inflammatory.

Skylake Oriental Herb Cool Shampoo  YEAH A product I have not tried.  This is what I had been hoping that Mishibox would have more of.  This is such a nice shampoo.  It has a refreshing, cooling effect, due the mint and it does have a very herbal-y mint scent to it ~ I happen to love it, but others may not.  It also has a piece of root in it! It looks like a lotus root, but I am not sure  The root is from the plant wilfordi , which helps to make your hair healthy and shiny ~ I think that the root piece is so cool!   I do have a gripe ~ I tried to order from Skylake’s online shop and it failed horribly.  Then I tried calling their shop with the number supplied on the website and it just rings and rings.  Damnit.  I want to order some of those products and I cannot.    No excuse for a shoddy website shop and no phone pickup, people.   ** Sample Size 40 mL  Value $5.00

** Update:  I looked around some more to see if I could find another phone number for Skylake and I found this website http://www.skylakeshop.com/  I called the number on it, as this site is under construction and the gentleman that I spoke with told me that this was the correct site and it will be up and running by the end of next week.   The other skylake web site is defunct and doesn’t work, so not sure why they didn’t just redirect people to their new site.  So, hopefully, I will be able to purchase some items next week and I will let you know how that goes!

Holika Holika Aloe 99% Soothing Gel  Yep, broken record.  I have received this product before and I do really like it.   This is a huge bottle-full of aloe vera gel ~ 99% pure and from Jeju Island.  This also has bamboo, cucumber, cabbage and watermelon extracts, as well as lotus flower.  It can be used for a variety of uses, from sunburn, cooling skin, insect bites, rashes ~ aloe has moisturizing, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.   It helps soothe and cool your skin ~ I know, because my skin gets really hot in the summer time and I just lather aloe vera gel onto my skin to cool it down.  I love the scent of Aloe too, and I need to pick up their body wash soon, as it is just a lovely summer time scent.  Hint: for items this heavy, I always check out beautynetkorea.com as they have free shipping and low prices.  If you don’t mind waiting 2 to 3 weeks for your items, this is a great place to purchase those heavy Korean skincare products!  Full Size 250 mL Value $12.00

Ingredients: Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Nelumbo Nucifera (lotus) Flower Extract, Centella asiatica extract, Bambusa Vulgaris (bamboo) Extract, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Zea Mays (Corn) Leaf Extract, Brassica Oleracea Capitata (Cabbage) Leaf Extract, Citrullus Lanatus (Watermelon) Fruit Extract, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Sodium Polyacrylate, carbomer, triethanolamine, fragrance, phenoxyethanol    cosDNA.com analysis

Holika Holika Jewel Light Waterproof Eyeliner I have purchased this item in the past but in purple, olive and grey.  I received #07 One Carat Diamond, which is a very shimmery silver shade, which isn’t bad ~ except the tip is so soft and it crumbled everywhere.  That is so strange, because my other liners by Holika Holika do not do this.   I would have liked to get a colored eyeliner instead of silver (not gold, black or brown) ~ I guess they sent out other colors, but I have only seen silver and gold on IG and other reviews.  I do not know if the softness of this eyeliner is due to the color or a bad batch, because the ones that I personally have purchased are not this texture at all.   That said, once the eyeliner is set, it doesn’t BUDGE.   Value $8.00

Ingredients: Cyclomethicone, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Mica, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Polyethylene, Ceresin, Titanium Dioxide(CI 77892), Silica, C12-15 Alkyl Ethylhexanoate, Polyglyceryl-2 Triisostearate, Hydrogenated Castor Oil

Okay, how do I rate this first box from Mishibox?  I am an old hand now at K-Beauty products, so  I give it a 7/10 ~ it is a solid but boring box, but I was hoping for more unique products in here that other USA K-Beauty subscription boxes don’t carry.    The Skylake is a major plus, but there are tons of K-Beauty companies that I wish we would get more exposure to, such as Whamisa,  Mediheal, Primera, Mamonde, Chosungah, Neogen ~ just to name a few.   I would have rather had the Skylake product in a larger size ~ that would have helped a lot to make this a better box ~ and another Skylake product (maybe the herbal rinse)  instead of the Benton Cleansing Foam.  I would also suggest that Mishibox stay away from high pH foam cleansers ~ many K-Beauty enthusiasts already are very familiar with pH levels and whereas I can and have used a higher level, a lot of people refuse to do so.   Mishibox should break the mold and only do lower pH level cleansers and include oil cleansers, as those are always a safe choice!

I feel that Mishibox’s first box was bland, but I will use most of the products as intended.  The cleansing foam will be used to clean my brushes and the eyeliner is a waste, because it crumbles everywhere.   I have signed up for the monthly subscription to see how they fare and will stick with them for several months to see if they start offering more unique and unusual brands and not give out high pH level cleansers.  The packaging and presentation is first rate ~ now they have to improve on the type of products included!

This box is almost $20.00 and since I already have Beauteque ~ which is shaping up nicely after a rough few months and they have more full sized products for several dollars more ~ and The 3B Box which is fairly inexpensive, as well as Memeboxes (the original), Mishibox is going to have to be radically different in order to compete in this market.

I paid $18.95, including shipping and received a MishiBox Value of $30.19.  Again, just like Beauteque and Memebox, MishiBox value just means that you can find these products cheaper elsewhere.

Did you receive the first ever Mishibox?  What did you think of it?

  1. I was hoping the banila co. Clean It Zero Cleaning Balm would emulsify with water – ah well. I also don’t hate mineral oil, it’s just a very inexpensive ingredient and it makes me mad when high end brands have it as their primary ingredient and charge $$$ for it.
I’ve seen the Holika Holika Aloe 99% Soothing Gel in stores and have always been curious – the packaging is awesome!
