Unboxing June 2017 Sephora Play!

[ blog post contains affiliate links which provide a small commission to me at no cost to you ]

Two months ago, I decided to be very picky about my unboxings with Sephora Play!  After several months of “meh, toss the samples in the gift pile” boxes, I decided that it was too much effect to unbox this sub at my blog ~ I would show the box on my Instagram account with what I got, but unless the box was exceptional, I wasn’t going to even put forth the effort to blog it.  If Sephora cannot be bothered to send me a decent box for my skin type and concerns, then I can’t be bothered to write up a full blog review.  And of course, the next two months I have been very happy with so here I am, writing up another unboxing for Sephora Play!  What is Sephora Play!?  Play! is a monthly subscription box that is $10.00 a month + any taxes and it looks like your subscription will be counted towards your Beauty Insider points as well

What will be in Play!  A monthly box of deluxe samples, along with an exclusive PLAY! BOOK — packed with helpful advice — and a PLAY! PASS to redeem in store for a free one-on-one learning session with a beauty expert. This month’s Sephora Play! theme is “Your Summer Starters” Whether you’re sweating in the city or cooling by the pool, kick off your season of sunshine with these warm weather must-haves.

Box Revealed!

I don’t know what happened, but one of my items didn’t appear in my main box photo below!!

Informational Card

You still get a card for 50 extra points the next time you shop at a Sephora store (not online ~ I wish they would change that)   Sephora did other different box variations.

Benefit Cosmetics The POREfessional Face Primer  This is the only meh item in the box for me ~ its a primer, its by Benefit, its meh. okay.  Thankfully, small size and big woop ~ I own so many of these I should just decant them all into one jar and have enough to apply to my face!   3 mL RV $5.14

Description: Quickly minimize the appearance of pores and fine lines and help makeup stay put with this priming phenomenon. The silky and lightweight formula can be worn under makeup to create a smoother-than-smooth canvas or used throughout the day to mattify shine and touch up problem areas. It’s so translucent, no one will know you’re wearing anything. The oil-free formula contains vitamin E, which is known to protect skin from free radicals.

Bvlgari Omnia Crystalline Perfume This smells so good to me!  This is a warm, yet light refreshing sweet scent that has a mix of fresh clean scents with floral feminine scents.  This has fresh lotus and fruity smelling nashi pear plus the warm tones of balsa wood. Bvlgari  (which sounds like bul-ga-ree) is an luxgery Italian brand founded in the late 19th century and is know for their interlocking jewelry.  1.5mL  RV $2.48

Coola Makeup Setting Spray SPF 30 with Green Tea & Aloe  This is the item I forgot to put in the group shot!!  Which is a shame as this is a nice setting spray ~ I do like it a lot. I actually like receiving Coola products ~ their sunscreen always smells amazing and this is setting spray has SPF 30 in it.  It is made with cucumber and aloe vera, which soothes and heals, as well has hyaluronate acid, which is a powerful hydrating ingredient.  I don’t know why they have the ingredient green tea in the name of the product, as there is no green tea to be FOUND in the ingredient list! And since this product came out in 2015, they’ve had this mistake for a few years now.  This setting spray leaves a semi-matte finish on my very oily skin, which is better than most setting sprays.  This has a bit of an herbal scent to it and it doesn’t leave my face wet, as the mist spray is very fine.  I am very happy to have this back in my summer stock and it will be put in my purse ASAP.  .34 oz  Value $7.20

Description: This lightweight, matte finish mist protects the sensitive skin of your face, keeping makeup looking ‘just applied’ and fresh. The highly advanced formula includes an array of active ingredients: both cucumber and aloe vera extracts to help soothe and refresh skin; hyaluronic acid to bind moisture while softening, toning, and rehydrating skin, and reducing the appearance of pores, fine lines, and wrinkles; and broad-spectrum SPF 30 to protect skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays. It offers simple spray application so you can refresh while on the go.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lovesick So, when I saw some of the upcoming spoilers for this month’s box, one of them was a Kat Von D lippie in K-Dub, which was this bright bold fuchsia color ~ and I was dreading it.  They just don’t look good on me and it isn’t like I don’t like bold colors, I do.  I just cannot pull that shade off.  When I saw that some other boxes were getting Lovesick, I was hoping that I would be in those boxes, and I am!  I have Lovecraft, which is a darker version of Lovesick ~ Lovesick is a brighter yet still muted, mauve nude shade and I love it.  I love Kat Von D’s matte lippies ~ they are so creamy when you apply them and the pigmentation is intense.  However, they are drying, so make sure you keep your lips in good shape before using and keep some lip balm around ~ to dab on my lips if they start to cake up.   So happy to have this shade!  This is about half the size of the full size and I never finish the full sizes!! 3 mL RV $9.10

Description: A long-wear, high-pigment liquid lipstick with a smooth, matte finish and all-day, lightweight comfort.  This breakthrough liquid lipstick gives lips long-lasting wear and high-pigment color. Its creamy, color-rich formula glides over lips as effortlessly as a gloss, but dries to a true matte finish that feels weightless all day long. It’s infused with natural comfort-enhancing ingredients, including vitamin E and sunflower seed so you can flaunt lasting matte color.  Made without parabens and never tested on animals.

Verb Sea Spray Okay, I don’t have curls and I would never let my hair air dry unless I am at the beach or roughing it via camping.  That said, I love sea salt sprays as I use them to add texture and volume to my hair ~ I spray it into my wet hair and then blow dry.  I am excited to try this one out and it smells wonderful ~ very fresh and reminds me of going to the beaches along the Northeastern coast (Maine, Cape Cod) This is also not supposed to be as drying as other sea salt sprays as it has quinoa and seaweed extracts to moisturize.  This is a great size too!  It will last me all summer long and it is made without parabens, phthalates, gluten and is cruelty free.  2.4 oz RV $7.00

Description: Formulated with natural sea salt and smoothing moisturizers, this light mist infuses all hair types with oceanic waves for a breezy texture boost. A quinoa protein naturally conditions and smooths hair while sunflower seed extract provides natural UV protection while guarding against dryness, color fading, and brassiness. Green tea extract provides antioxidant protection as seaweed extract and kelp cleanse hair of excess oils and provide natural hydration.

Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk  I have used this before and I like it a lot!  This is a cult favorite  that won The Best of Beauty Allure award 4 times running.  Dry shampoos help absorb oil, add volume and texture and extend the life of blow-outs ~ I use them mainly for volume and texture. One thing to be careful of is that this does leave a white cast, so don’t over-spray and don’t spray too closely to your hair.  Klorane also makes one that doesn’t leave a white cast called Natural Tint ~ I need to try this one and see how that works!  You don’t need a lot of this product as it is very effective.  This is another great size for my purse.  This is made without parabens, sulfates, sodium chloride and colorants ~ it is vegan and hypoallergenic.  1 oz RV $10.00

Description: An award-winning dry shampoo that cleans hair, eliminates oil, and adds volume and texture to hair with ultra-gentle botanical ingredients.  Perfect for all hair types and safe for the most sensitive scalp, Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk gently cleans hair in minutes, refreshes hair in between washes, and adds volume and texture. The ultra-fine powder is formulated with a unique combination of botanical-based ingredients: gentle oat milk soothes and protects hair and scalp, while corn and rice starches provide a powerful cleansing action and deliver natural absorbent microspheres to eliminate dirt and oil.

  • Organically Harvested Oat Milk: Soothes and protects hair and scalp.
  • Corn and Rice Starches: Provide a powerful cleansing action.
  • Natural Absorbant Microspheres and Silica: Remove excess dirt and oil.

Ingredients: Butane, Propane, Isobutane, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Starch, SD Alcohol 39-C (Alcohol Denat.), Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Oil, Benzyl Salicylate, Cetrimonium Chloride, Cyclodextrin, Cyclohexasiloxane, Cyclopentasiloxane, Fragrance, Hexyl Cinnamal Isopropyl Myristate, Limonene, Silica

Outside of the Benefit item which I will use begrudgingly, this month was fantastic again!  Two hair care items ~ one new to me and one a favorite, my FAVORITE matte lipstick brand ~ Kat Von D ~ with a great summer color, a lovely perfume scent and a nice hydrating setting spray for the hot months ahead.   I paid $10.00 + sales tax (so it was still under $10.50 or something like that) and I received a retail value of  almost $41.00 which is over 4 times what I paid for it.  These boxes do contribute to Sephora’s points system, so every month, an additional 10 points, plus there is always a 50 point card in each box ~ just go down to a Sephora store and redeem.

Did you get this month’s Sephora Play! Box?  What did you think of it and what was your favorite item?
