Unboxing Beauty

Jolse is a premier Korean online store and they often have new releases way sooner than other global Korean stores ~ which I am so grateful for, as sometimes a shipping service can be so expensive! Jolse offered me the chance to select and review some more items in their store and this lip product by Peripera really drew me in.  I have tried their lip tints before, but this is different.  Peripera has a whole link of their “Ink” lip products, which are intensely pigmented lip products but this product is from their “Ink the Velvet” line and it is a creamy, matte lip.  It comes in several shades and I picked the latest one in their Autumn Line.

I chose #06 Celeb Deep Rose, which is described as a “toned-down rosy hue”.   Ink the Velvet comes in a squat rectangular jar with rounded corners, with a cap that looks like an eye drop applicator.  I think they are trying to mimic an ink pot here ~ it is cute but bulky to carry around.   The applicator is not an eye drop one, as when I twist off the cap, a soft, plush doe foot applicator appears.   You can also see how much product in this 8 mL jar.

The shade is BEAUTIFUL!!   When I swatched it on my hand, I could feel how smooth and velvety this lippie is ~ which is due to all of the dimethicones and silica in this product.  The texture is like chiffon and is so soft. It glides on so nicely ~ since this cream is so thick, I did have to watch out for uneven application, as it would build up on some areas and not on others.  The photo on the right has part of the lip cream smudged out in the lower left hand corner, so you can see how pigmented even the stain is ~ in case you want to do a gradient lip.

What’s a gradient lip? It is a makeup look where your lip product will create the illusion of a smaller mouth (which is very cute in Korean).  the edges are neutral, using a concealer and you apply your lip product in the middle of your lips and dab it outwards.

This is a beautiful warm rose-coral shade.  I added coral to the description, as it does have that peachy tone to it.  I guess this is what you would call this color to be in the family of “Dried Roses” ~ a very popular series of muted, but pigmented rose tones , that have a huge range ~ from nude to brown to coral rose shades.   It is heavily pigmented but not bright ~ muted is a good word for it.  It has a sweet candy-fruity scent to it… but this tastes awful, so don’t expect a lovely experience if you lick your lips.  It has a chemical taste to it but the color is so pretty, I am over that.  I just won’t kiss anyone with this lip product on!  I am not a professional lip photo taker (is there a word for that?? haha) so excuse the not-perfect application ~ but I wanted you to see how it looks on my lips.

This is very creamy and whereas Peripera describes this as a matte, I think there is enough creamy moisture to this lippie that I find it on the very edge of matte lipsticks ~ it is not full blown matte, as there is some shine to it, but more of a satin finish. The only way I can describe the look is like frosting on a cake.   Smooth, silky looking, creamy finish.  I haven’t had a lip product before with this type of texture and I do like it a lot!  If I blot it, it does stain and has a matte finish.  You can see that in the swatches on my hand in the earlier photos.

Is it long wearing?  Now, Periperi states that this is a long wearing lip product ~ up to 6 hours. If I don’t eat anything (drinking is okay), it does last longer than most lip products that I have used.  However, not for 6 hours ~ this is not a budge proof lippie ~ it does leave a slight stain behind on my lips, so even after the color wore off, there was some color on lips.

I found this on Club Clio’s website when searching for the ingredients in Ink the Velvet.

Now, when I look at the ingredient list at Club Clio Korea, I do not see those items in there.  hmmm… Let’s dive a bit further. I might go out on a limb and say that the silica ingredients (silica, silica dimethyl silylate) might be considered the “marine collagen”.  Now, this does have a lot of skin conditioning and moisturizing agents, such as polyglyceryl-2 triisostearate, glyceryl acrylate/acrylic acid copolymer, pentylene glycol, glycerin and so on, but I am at a loss to see where the  hyaluronic acid, jojoba and olive oils and arnica extracts come into play with this product.  That would require more time than I wish to spend on digging down on the formulas of these products and I am not a chemist. At any rate, with all of the silicas and dimethicones, this product is really smooth and creamy.

Final Thoughts

I have to say I am very impressed by Peripera Peri’s Ink the Velvet lip product ~ this is so creamy, so smooth, and yes, velvety on the lips ~ that I just love applying it.  The taste is awful, but the color is so pigmented and creamy that I can overlook that taste.   It will stay on my lips for a couple of hours, so long I don’t actually eat anything, which is pretty amazing for me.  This is non-drying on my lips and it feels so smooth and ..well, velvety.   I love this formula a lot and I am tempted to purchase the Pretty Coral and Love Sniper Red ~ two colors that are really out of my comfort zone!  Should I go for it?

You can purchase Peripera Peri’s Ink the Velvet for $7.86 USD, which is a savings of $2.62 off the retail price.   Celeb Deep Rose is currently sold out, but Dollish Beige Rose looks to be very similar shade, just a bit lighter and not as warm, if you go by the swatches.  Jolse also has free shipping and gives lots of samples too when you place an order with them.  Peripera Peri’s Ink the Velvet only has a few different colors ~ but they do cover a wide spectrum of shades ~ hot pink, bright red, soft coral, muted pink.
