The lovely Robbie @modgeek had found Laneige Lucky Chouette BB Cushion at Target recently and even though I am not a huge fan of BB Cushions, I fell in love with the packaging.  Yep, so SHALLOW!!  I immediately grabbed the unopened samples of the Laneige cushions I had and thought that the shade light-medium might do the trick.  I ordered mine at Target and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Target has a gift with purchase with the Lucky Chouette BB Cushion ~ I received a 2-pack of Laneige Lucky Chouette BB Cushion puffs  as well as a huge Laneige x Lucky Chouette Jean Clutch, for a total of $40.00 in freebies.  Alas,  this promo is currently unavailable ~ but I hope that if you followed me on Instagram, you saw that I posted my haul about a week ago ~ and were able to get into this deal.  Maybe Target will restock those items soon.

About Laneige

Inspired by the immaculate beauty and purity of snow, Laneige’s skincare line combines modern technology and high-quality ingredients to reveal clear, youthful beauty. Deriving its name from the French word for “snow”, Laneige bases its philosophy on the unique relationship between snow and water, one element being reborn from the other over and over. Using pure glacial water flowing from the Himalayas as its key ingredient, Laneige’s products protects skin cells, maintains balance, and strengthens immunity.

Laneige collaborated with the fashion brand, Lucky Chouette, whose brand mascots are owls ~ The bold and brash Bella Chouette (pink owl) and the shy Vely Chouette, who blushes easily (blue owl) . These owls symbolize luck and are featured in all of the products in this collaboration.  All I know is that they are cute!

Alas, Target doesn’t carry the full line of Laneige X Lucky Chouette, but they do have the BB Cushion.  The cushion sold at Target should not be confused with the other BB cushions in this line ~ there is a Whitening BB Cushion (dewy finish), that looks very similar to this one and a Pore BB Cushion (semi-matte finish), which has a black cover.  The non-Target Laneige BB Cushions have the standard Korean shade numbering ~ #13 Ivory and #21 Beige, which are really pale and pale.  The Target Laneige BB Cushions are using a Western standard of fair, light, light-medium, medium and medium-dark, in hopes to broaden the spectrum of skin tones in the USA.  Since I have never tried the Korean Laneige BB Cushions, I do not know how the numbering system matches up with our broader based naming system.  Since I purchased both light and medium-light, it could be that #21 is light.   The Target Laneige BB Cushion will help brighten your skin tone, provide UVA/UBV protection as they have SPF50+ and will prevent shine with long-lasting coverage.

This BB Cushion comes in a cute pink box with the Chouettes drawn it and it comes with a refill cushion and puff as well.

This compact is very well made ~ it has a pink bottom and the top of the compact has a rose gold tone rim.  Alas, the design on the top of compact is sitting on top of the lid, so it will scratch and rub off easily.  I don’t know why Laneige couldn’t put the design under the hard clear plastic top, to help preserve the very sweet montage of yellow, pink and blue owls.  The puff is a standard Laneige white puff with a blue underside and does not have owls imprinted on them.

This has a nice sized mirror and the both the outer lid and inner lid snap shut without popping open.  The scent is very much that strong floral scent found in the Water Bank series, which I dislike immensely, but it fades quickly.

As I stated, I purchased two shades ~ the first one was in light-medium and it looked good on my arm, but on my face, it was too dark. I then purchased light and that is the winner. Looks light on my arm, but a pretty near perfect shade for my face.  These cushions seem to be more warm toned than cool.  For reference, I use Mac NW20 and Jouer Matte Moisturizing Tint in Nude.

So, for my skin and its issues… I have hyper pigmentation around my cheeks and forehead, so that is more warm toned whereas my T-Zone has a pink ruddiness.   I also have visible pores around my nose and forehead.

This is me with 3 applications of the Laneige Lucky Chouette in Light.  I am not wearing primer nor have I added a face powder or blush over this.  I am wearing Labiotte Dry Wine Eye Shadow Palette on my eyes,  Peripera Peri’s Ink the Velvet in Celeb Deep Rose on my lips and Clinique High Impact Extreme Volume Mascara.  I feel that the coverage with this BB cushion is light and it is buildable ~ up to a point.  However, it doesn’t cake up on me with 3 applications.  The finish is not too dewy, but it isn’t matte either ~ perhaps satin is the best description for this finish.

It seems to cover up my imperfections nicely in the photo, but in real life, I can still see the ruddiness, the fading acne scars and hyper-pigmentation.  It also does nothing for me for my pores, but at least it doesn’t make them more noticeable.   The coverage is not dense, so be prepared to do a pat, pat, more pats, pat with the cushion.  I could never just wear this with one application, as it lacks the coverage I want.  If I don’t apply a finishing powder over this, my oil will break through within an hour ~ however, with a finishing powder, it takes about a couple of hours before the employees at Shine Central Control get back to work on my face.  However, this doesn’t oxidize either, so that is good ~ nothing worse than a shiny orange face!

I do think the shade is a great match for me, so I am interested in the Pore Control BB Cushion by Laneige.  Target doesn’t sell that one, but it is available at BB Cosmetic, so I might have to think about that. I am not normally a huge BB Cushion fan, but the packaging.. omg…

Ingredients of Note

Silica and dimethicones provide the silky application that makes this BB product glide on smoothly and easily.  Titanium dioxide, zinc oxide and ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate provide the UVA and UVB protection. Arbutin is a skin brightener and releases  hydroquinone which helps suppress the activity that creates melanin. GWP

It wasn’t advertised, but once I added the BB Cushion to my cart, Target automatically added the following items to my cart for free

LaneigeX Lucky Chouette Puff 2X  So cute!  I wonder why the BB Cushion just didn’t have these puffs instead of the plain Laneige. These retail for $12.00 and at one time, you could purchase them individually for $6.00

Laneige X Lucky Chouette Jean Clutch  This is huge!  It measures a little over 13 inches by 9 inches. Made from denim material, it has the Lucky Chouette owls printed on the front and it even has an owl zipper pull!  So clever and cute.  I love this ~ Its retail value is $28.00, but Target had it on sale for $14.00.

As I stated, these items are no longer available at Target ~ either as a GWP or to purchase individually.  Perhaps they will come back in stock and you can get them then.

Final Thoughts

The color match with light really an unexpected surprise for me, but the coverage of this particular BB cushion is not enough for me ~ despite 3 applications, I felt that it could have covered better and I didn’t like that it faded so that my oil broke through.   That said, if you have normal skin with and like a sheer coverage, this BB cushion holds up well.  I will continue to use it, as I do use a finishing powder over my BB Cushion, so it works well enough.   I think that this is a steal at Target ~ for $34.00, you get this really cute compact that is very well made, plus two cushions.   Target also has 5 shade to choose from, so it will be easier for those who aren’t pale and paler to find a match.  Another great thing about this is the SPF of 50, which for such a high SPF, this product didn’t leave a white cast or greasy film on my face.  I felt like I wasn’t wearing anything, quite frankly.  The finish was also not overly moist or dewy ~ I felt it had a satin finish, which is acceptable.

Please note, this review is for the Laneige Lucky Chouette BB Cushion SPF 50+.  It is only available at Target, as far as I know.  Now, if you want the Laneige Lucky Chouette BB Cushion for Whitening or Pore Control, you can find those at BB Cosmetic and those only come in two shades, very limited.  I did purchase the Pore Control in #21, so I will probably do a review of that when I get it.  I am a sucker for cute packaging and owls!  If you want to purchase the Whitening or Pore Control at BB Cosmetics, use my promo code of YW36SVN21HU  for 8% off your purchases.
