So… as the warm weather comes rolling into my life again, my skin decides it is time to be a grease pit again! Your oil production increases 10 to 20% for each degree the temperature of your skin rises. Hot weather is not a friend to my oily skin, so I turn to tea tree products more often during warm months as it really helps keep the oil on my skin under control and fights blemishes. And let me tell you, you can get acne at any age. I am living proof!
I like giving options for my readers ~ I know that posting ingredient lists are important to due skin sensitivities and allergies, plus the availability and price of a product can all be factors for what to purchase. There are a lot of items in here, but Tea Tree is one of my favorite ingredients to use, so it makes sense I would purchase a few of them!
Who am I?
Tea Tree oil has been known by native Australians for centuries as an all purpose “cure-all” remedy in medicines due to its powerful antimicrobial properties. Tea Tree oil is extracted by using steam distillation from twigs and leaves of Melaleuca Alternifolia, a Tea Tree ~ not to be confused with tea that you drink. Tea Tree is native to parts of Australia ~ Southeast Queensland and New South Wales ~ and it has become popular globally. Tea tree oil is used for many infections and diseases due to its healing and disinfectant properties ~ antibacterial, fungicide, antiseptic, antimicrobial, antiviral and can help speed up wound healing and reduce scarring, as it is a cicatrisant. It helps with preventing dry, flaky skin and because of its antibacterial properties, can help heal current blemishes while reducing future blemishes and control excess oil. It helps with rashes, allergic skin reactions and fungal infections, such as ringworm and athlete’s foot. It can also be used to help relieve achy sore muscles and feet, as it is an anti-inflammatory and can promote blood circulation to where ever you apply it. Tea Tree oil is for topical use only and should not be used directly on your skin full strength.
Tea Tree has made an amazing comeback in skincare products ~ prior to antibiotics, tea tree was used quite a bit in as a skincare remedy but penicillin and other synthetic antibiotics put baby in the corner for a few decades. Since overuse of antibiotics now can fail due to bacteria becoming resistant and immune to synthetic antibiotics, tea tree has gained more prominence for its anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-septic qualities. Unlike synthetic antibiotics, natural tea tree can thwart bacteria from becoming immune to its anti-bacterial properties. I like using natural products, like tea tree, for daily use and saving my antibiotics for when I really need them. I feel that it helps prevent my immune system from building up a tolerance towards antibiotics, which is a very common problem.
Ingredients lists for all products will be provided at the very end of this post. I have provided purchase information ~ if a store has ** next to it, that means I have a referral link or promo code that you can use to save more and can find that information at the end of the blog post. Also, this review contains affiliate links, which provide a small commission to me ~ which I use to put back into my blog. I would love it if you used my links, but I also posted the name of the online shop, so you don’t have to use the links.
I’ve reviewed several of the items in my blog post already and I will link the original review here, plus ingredient list and a brief repeat of my original review. I did do two recent reviews on some tea tree items lately.
The Saem Healing Tea Garden Tea Tree Cleansing Water (pH ≈ 5) This cleansing water is perfect for the upcoming warmer months, as it has Australian tea tree oil (100ppm) in it, which means it will help heal blemishes and rashes, soothe and calm any skin redness and also help balance my skin so it is not as oily. It has a refreshing tea tree and mint scent and it is very invigorating! I think this would be great used chilled, especially on a hot, humid muggy day. This has some lovely flower and herbal extracts, such as edelweiss, yarrow, marjoram and mallow, which act as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and astringent. This does contain citric acid (AHA), so it can help exfoliate dead skin cells. It does not contain artificial colors, artificial scent, benzophenone, parabens, animal derived materials, mineral oil or talc. Full review here [purchase Cosmetic-Love **]
Manyo Factory Active Refresh Herb Oil This is a very pungent oil ~ it contains 15 types of herbal oils in here ~ including 11% of tea tree oil ~ and it smells like a tangy, stinky herbal-fest ~ tea tree has nothing on this oil! I am really happy and pleased with the results ~ it didn’t really control my oily skin, but it did help heal blemishes, reduce redness and swelling and it was very soothing. It didn’t cause any more breakouts as it didn’t clog my pores. It doesn’t do anything for acne hyper-pigmentation ~ for that Melano CC spot treatment reigns supreme. That said, this product is really nice and soothing on my skin and it is pretty economical, as you do not need a lot of this product. I also like that this is a multi-use product ~ you can use it as a scalp treatment and massage it into your scalp, to help remove excess oil and debris, heal rashes and skin issues. Also, as a massage oil for your feet ~ it is refreshing if your feet are achy and tired, as well as a massage/headache oil ~ just rub into temple area. Full review here [purchase Melody Cosmetics ]

My Mega Blog Post Family Photo was so huge, it couldn’t include these fine items
Ciracle Anti-Blemish Teatree Wash (pH 5.5 ~ 6) Oh my bae! I cannot gush more about this cleanser than I already have, it seems! Yes, this smells like tea tree, but so do most of the products listed here! haha. I find this to be so much better than cosRX Good Morning Cleanser in terms of cleansing and I love how it controls my oily skin. I have 3 of these bottles on standby, because when all else fails, this is the cleanser I turn too. It is a gel, so by itself it won’t foam too much, but with a brush or bubble net, it will foam up nicely. I think I reviewed this product twice already (here and here) ~ that is how much I love it (and that is not including the original unboxing or my name dropping of this item in other reviews). Not only does this have tea tree oil, which is anti-bacterial, it also has willow bark extract, which is an astringent and both of these ingredients help control the oil (sebum) in your skin as well. It cleanses really well and never leaves my face feeling dry or tight. It is a runny type of gel, but I just put it on a pore brush and it works fine. Since I oil cleanse first, I don’t have traces of stubborn makeup left after using this as my second cleanser, but I did do a test without oil cleansing first ~ I think it held up really well. Innisfree Capsule Recipe Bija & Tea Tree Ahh, a marriage made in herbal heaven! I love Innisfree’s Bija facial sheet mask and it is no surprise that they took two very good blemish and oil controlling ingredients and mixed them together. I bet you didn’t know that that Innisfree made a clay mask outside of their volcanic pore masks!! Many people don’t, as for some reason, this clay mask is only available in the small capsule pods and it isn’t really apparent that this is a clay mask if you just read the name. This contains 100ppm of bija oil and 300ppm of tea tree oil and it is great for oily or blemish prone skin. This mask does make you look like Shrek (green skin, no weird ear horns, thankfully) and it has a nice bija/tea tree scent to it ~ the clay mask is smooth and creamy and is easily applied. It dries down nicely too ~ it doesn’t tighten or make my skin itch ~ just rinse with warm water after it is dry on your face (about 15-20 minutes) and nice, clean skin! This does a great job with excess oil and removing dirt in your pores. If you are looking for something different from the volcanic clay mask, give this one a try ~ and also pick up their soothing aloe vera capsule pack to put on afterwards as a sleep pack ~ these little capsule packs are perfect for traveling. You can get 2 to 3 uses out of each pod as well. [purchase InnisfreeWorld | Amazon]
Skin & Lab Dr Pore Tightening: Glacial Clay Facial Mask I was debating whether or not to include this in my Mega Cool Down post or have it here, and I decided to place it here. But quite frankly, this could be in my Mega Cool Down, cause this is an intense mask! This clay mask is made from glacial Canadian clay (3000mg), which will help remove dirt and unclog pores, while absorbing excess oil in your skin, along with 2 other types of clay ~ kaolin and bentonite to help detox. It also contains oatmeal, which will help soften and remove dead skin cells, while hydrating and moisturizing your skin, tea tree extract ~ which is an anti-bacterial and will help heal and soothe blemishes. This is a thick greenish clay mask where I can see the oatmeal grains and smell the tea tree extracts! Word of warning: if you have sensitive skin, under a special skin treatment or have dry skin, I would not recommend this mask. For us oily skinned people ~ this mask has an initial tingle for about 2 minutes that is quite intense ~ and then it just becomes a nice cooling clay mask. I love this mask in the summertime ~ I purchased my first tub last year, reviewed it and this is my second tub, as it is so refreshing and cooling. Just be careful that your skin type can tolerate the freeze!! It cleans out my pores and exfoliates, with the gentle oats in the scrub ~ after I rinse off the mask, my face feels cool and refreshed, my pores look smaller [purchase Wishtrend | Memebox]

Balanced Guru Scalp Detox This is a must have if you have an oily scalp. Balanced Guru makes some of my favorite hair products ~ I love their hair oil ~ I use this item more in the summer time, as sebum production increases substantially with warmer weather. It has a wonderful herbaceous scent to them, very zingy and refreshing ~ with almost a lemon-mint scent. If you love herbal scents, you have to try Balanced Guru! Scalp Detox will help remove excess oil and act as astringent due to its essential oils of tea tree, rosemary and oregano. This herbal blend also contains some stimulating ingredients to help freshen your scalp and hair follicles ~ algae, sea kelp and brahmi. Detox will help stimulate your hair growth as your hair follicles will become unclogged and clear of any buildup of excess product and sebum. Add one dropper on to your scalp and massage in ~ you do not rinse out. [purchase Balanced Guru | Amazon]
Lador Tea Tree Scalp Clinic Hair Pack I purchased this a few months back and I keep getting more when Memebox has it. My original review is here and this product not only contains tea tree, but ceramides to help keep your hair shiny and smooth, due to linoleic fatty acids and snail secretion filtrate ~ it contains natural acids and elastin that will help promote healthy skin (scalp) . I am not sure why the description on the product itself states that it contains propolis, because the ingredient list does not show that. I even translated the back of the product itself, in case the translation was incorrect at Memebox ~ which has happened in the past ~ but no…Weird. Maybe they confused the snail slime with propolis. I have no idea. This works the same way as the ampoule ~ shampoo your hair and then massage in this product into your wet scalp (only your scalp!!) and then leave in for 3 minutes. Rinse out completely and then you can use a conditioner. This product is thick and creamy, with a light minty scent and leaves my scalp tingling and refreshed. My hair is very bouncy and full after I use this. I was worried about the rose extract, but I have not had any issues with this product ~ I guess the ingredient is so far down the list, it has been neutralized. [purchase Memebox | RoseRoseShop | BeautyNetKorea]
There are a lot of tea tree masks out there, but these 3 really are ones that I want to (and have) repurchase!
Tonymoly Tea Tree Skin Soothing (S.Korea) I am normally not a huge Tonymoly fan ~ I like some of their products, like facial scrubs ~ and I do like their I’m Real masks. They aren’t for everyone, but I find them to be a good, inexpensive sheet mask and they have many different types (I love their Lemon brightening mask too). This mask sheet is soft, soaked with essence and it does smell a bit like Tea Tree. After leaving on for 20 minutes, I removed and patted in any extra essence as it is a bit sticky. Very refreshing and soothing ~ I love tea tree masks and this one is one of my favorites! Two thumbs up! [purchase Sephora | Beauteque **]
Naruko Tea Tree Shine Control & Blemish Clear Mask (Taiwan) I am totally in love with Naruko’s Tea Tree line ~ I have tried their mask and night jelly with more products to come! I was introduced to the Naruko line by Beautibi when I made a purchase a few months back on their site and it is a great brand! This is a ‘black’ mask, as it is made with carbon ~ many black masks are really great for oily skin, as it will help absorb a lot of oil. The mask is a bit smaller than I would like, but it fits okay ~ no weirdly placed mouth, nose or eyes. This is a very wet mask and there is a lot of essence in the bag, which I just placed on top of the mask. This mask smells REALLY nice ~ it has a spearmint-citrus scent to it. I left it on for 20 minutes and my face was very wet still ~ my skin hadn’t absorbed the essence very well when I was wearing the mask. At first, I didn’t like this mask, but as the essence was absorbed into my skin (it took about 10-15 minutes for my face to totally dry), I really liked how my face felt, which was smooth and oil-free. So, I went from a meh to a YEAH on this Naruko mask. [purchase Naruko Boutique | Beautibi **]
Annie’s Way Tea Tree Anti Acne Mask (Taiwan) Annie’s Way masks are ultra thin masks, soaked in essence. They have a “pearl paper” (plastic sheet) to help place the mask on your face without ripping the thin mask, and then you remove the pearl paper. The fit is very good around my face, not a lot of open areas or bunching up and it does fit like a second skin. In fact, once it is smoothed into place, you can barely see the mask. This strongly tea tree scented mask is designed to really clean out your pores and skin, and help heal, as tea tree contains antibacterial properties. If you don’t like tea tree scents, then you will not be happy with the scent of this mask. I am very strange and LOVE the smell of tea tree ~ I find it to be such a clean scent ~ and this also contains green tea leaf extract which has powerful anti-oxidants. [purchase Beautius**]
Secret Key Tea Tree Refresh Calming Toner (pH ≈ 5) This is one of my favorite Tea Tree toners and Secret Key is one of those inexpensive brands that has some absolutely fantastic products! Secret Key has to be my favorite “cheapo” brand and in fact, I have owned quite a bit of their products in the past. Their toners are amazing ~ they have a line of them including aloe, witch hazel, milk, rose as well as this one here ~ I have used all of their toners except rose, of course! This does smell like tea tree, but it is very refreshing and cooling on the skin without stripping it dry, while helping soothe skin, reduce redness and help dry up those blemishes. It helps clean out my pores while reducing my pore appearance and it is fast drying without any sticky residue. [purchase Memebox | Secret Key | BeautyNetKorea | TesterKorea | Jolse]
PureDerm Tea-Tree Pore Freshner (pH ≈ 5) Purederm doesn’t get a lot of love but I found that their products have been very solid ~ they are like a Korean drugstore brand and they are inexpensive in Korea, but can be quite expensive outside of Korea. This toner is very refreshing, as its name implies and doesn’t smell like tea tree at all. It contains 90% tea tree extracts, witch hazel, sage extracts, lemon balm and peppermint extracts for a cool and refreshing astringent that doesn’t strip your skin dry. This has a pump applicator with the “cup” so that you just put your cotton pad on the cup and pump a couple of times to moisten it with the toner. [purchase eBay]
Dewytree Teatree Porest Powder in Toner (pH ≈ 7.5 ) I love the play on words ~ pore/forest = porest! This is an interesting product ~ I was going thru my stash looking for tea tree products and I found my last bottle of this item ~ I had used a previous bottle and that was almost gone ~ so I do like this mattifying product quite a bit!
Since this is expiring in a few months, I decided I better use this up. This has green clay in it and you shake the bottle up to mix the clay with the toner, then apply it on a cotton pad and then to your face. This will help control oil and mattify your face while hydrating. This doesn’t smell like tea tree, but a light floral scent, so this can be really nice for those who want to use tea tree, but dislike the scent. Why I thought this was interesting is that Sephora is carrying a brand called Erborian and they have a similar product with clay ~ Bamboo Matte Lotion ~ it isn’t made with tea tree, but it has that same concept of using clay in a toner to produce a more matte finish for oily skin types (I will be purchasing that for the fall to test it out!) I know that Dewytree also makes a clay mask in this formula as I have used it as well and for some reason, Memebox used to carry Dewytree products but do not anymore other than their facial sheet masks. I hope they will carry this line soon, as I did find Dewytree products, such as this and their black masks are fantastic! [purchase TesterKorea | Dewytree via KoreanBuddy**]

Earth’s Nature Jojoba Tea Tree Scalp Oil I purchased this at Sephora, which ships internationally now, on a whim and I have to say, I really like it. I’ve decanted for friends who have dry, itchy scalps and they love it ~ it helps their dry patches and soothes their scalp. I use this in the wintertime for when my scalp gets itchy and a bit dry myself and I do enjoy it. However, I find my alternate uses better ~ ahaha. I love this as body oil and use it on my hands and feet too (technically, yes, part of my body!) This oil is used by me in the summer time quite a bit ~ I can make my own, but I love this blend ~ Earth’s Nature did a fantastic job and it is lightweight, not too greasy and has a nice herbaceous scent. It helps soothe and calm your skin and if you use it on your scalp, it helps remove excess product buildup, while supporting natural hair growth. You massage it into your scalp for 15 minutes and rinse out (or not, depending on your hair type). You can also use this as a deep oil hair treatment by massaging into your scalp and hair strands, wrap a hot towel around your head and leave in for 10 minutes. [purchase Sephora]
LJH Tea Tree Body Mist (pH ≈ 4.5 ~ 5) I had to include an LJH product as I know they are well known for their tea tree products, especially their essence. However, the essence did not do anything for me, except make my blemishes more dewy looking. It really didn’t work for me ~ neither good or bad. It does work for a lot of people, so if you are interested in that, you should check it out. That said, I do like their mists and I have used both their facial and body mist, but I only have the body mist left! The scent to this is a bit strange ~ it is a weird scent, not very tea tree like at all ~ a menthol herbal scent. However, it disappears quickly and this is one way to refresh your body on a hot day or deal with skin problems. Just mist away!. You can always use a facial mist too, in case you do not wish to invest in a product that is name “Body” mist ~ but the nice thing about this mist is that you can turn it upside down and it still sprays ~ handy when spraying your body all over. I am keeping this bottle when I am done with the product so I can reuse it and have that upside down thing working for me. [purchase HKC Plaza]
Grinif Tea Tree Mist (pH ≈ 5) This is an odorless facial mist that contains witch hazel to help act as a soothing astringent along with 92% tea tree water. This is one of the few products in my Mega Tea Tree blog post that doesn’t smell like tea tree and this brand has an eco-friendly look and feel to it. In fact, this was my favorite tea tree mist until Benton’s came along. However, as I know that some folks have issues with Benton, I wanted to show that there was an alternative with Grinif. It is hard to find, however. This also has allantoin and licorice to help brighten and soften your skin and relieving irritation. [purchase eBay | Skin 18]
Outstanding Facial Mist Award Goes To…
Benton Honest TT Mist (pH 6 ~ 7) I raved about this facial mist last winter, when I was sick in bed with the flu and it really helped keep my skin moist, fresh and prevent oiliness. It contains 85% tea tree and 7% sodium hyaluronate. The mix of tea tree and sodium hyaluronate ensures that the oil and moisture level is balanced in your skin. This also has aloe vera, polyglutamic acid and beta glucan, so it is very hydrating and refreshing for your skin. For me, this product really lives up to its claims of hydration and also keeping the oil/moisture balance in my skin. My face felt refreshed and clean after I used this and my face did feel less oily as well. Full Review here [purchase Memebox | w2Beauty ** | RoseRoseShop | Jolse | TesterKorea ]
Naruko Tea Tree Shine Control & Blemish Clear Night Gelly I purchased this originally at Beautibi several months ago and thought, yeah, I will try it out starting in April. I let this jar sit around and around and for some reason, I wasn’t excited about trying this product. Not sure why, but I just didn’t have that eager “I have to open this up NOW” feeling. Then I did. Open it up. And tried it. Why did I wait so long? This sleeping pack is a must have for those with oily skin, even if you do not have blemishes. It is hydrating, yet doesn’t leave your face feeling greasy in the morning, so it has to be controlling oil to overnight, it helps reduce future blemishes, reduce swelling and redness from any blemishes you have and it heals blemishes. If you have other skin issues that tea tree will help with, this would most likely help with rashes and flaky skin, and so on.
This is a lightweight gel that smells like spearmint ~ I think a lot of the Naruko’s tea tree line has this wonderful sweet minty scent. It contains 0.5% salicylic acid, which is the ingredient that helps heals existing blemishes and prevents future outbreaks. Witch hazel extract acts as a non-dry astringent that helps reduce the appearance of pores while niancinamide can reduce hyper-pigmentation and have an overall effect to even out your skin tone. This gel has a nice weight to it, but it is not so thick that you have to work it into your skin for it to absorb ~ it glides on and then it melts into your skin.
Naruko uses a patented formula consisting of 11 organic plant extracts certified by ECOCERT (France) called Phytoferulin in their products. According to Naruko, Phytoferulin will help prevent hyper-pigmentation and environmental stress to your skin, while being a powerful antioxidant and brightening agent. This complex is very effective in hydrating your skin, but controlling oil. Phytoferulin is made up of the following herbal extracts: kalanchoe spathulata ,glycyrrhiza glabra (licorice), alpine skullcap (scutellaria alpina), masterwort (peucedanum ostruthium), ginkgo biloba, alps wormwood (artemisia umbelliformis), leontopodium alpinum, alpine willowherb (epilobium fleischeri), calendula officinalis , chamomilla recutita (matricaria) and camellia sinensis (green tea). Naruko also encloses a package insert that explains some of their other ingredients in the product:
- Phytoferulin: Made from kalancoe spathlata extract and other concentrated herbal extracts, Phytoferulin strengthens the skin’s defense against harmful factors in the environment while revitalizing the skin from its core.
- Salicylic Acid: Verified medical ingredient by Taiwan’s Ministry of Health, it accelerates skin metabolism and softens the epidermis layer to prevent acne.
- Serenoa Serrulata Fruit Extract: Contains rich free fatty acids that effectively blocks the revitalization of 5α-reductases (enzymes involved win steroid production) to control sebum production.
- Lens Esculenta (lentil) Seed Extract: Rich in oligo, it helps balance sebum production, refine pores and maintain healthy dermal metabolism, while working in junction with collagen to firm skin.
- Pirotone Olamine: It suppress the growth of bacteria and can prevent acne and blemishes to form
- Zinc PCA: It conditions sebum secretion and reduces excessive oil production on the skin
- Gluconolactone: As a mild ingredient, it boosts skin metabolism and hydration without the irritation seen in most other fruit acid ingredients
- Hamamelis Extract: It calms, soothes and improves the skin’s discomfort.
- SyriCalmCLR: A patented ingredient containing pragmites karka extract and poria cocos extract to boost skin defense
- Transexamic Acid: It is a brightening ingredient that is highly stable. Its ability to tackle melanin production at the source helps prevent appearance of dark spots at the skin’s surface, giving you fairer, brighter skin. (The insert states whitening, but for those who are not familiar with Asian beauty products, whitening means reducing hyper-pigmentation, evening out your skin tone and brightening your skin. It does not mean making you look “whiter”)
- Arbutin: Its ability to block melanin production and suppress tyrosinase activity (melanin) can effectively lighten dark hyper-pigmentation spots and give your skin a healthy, glowing complexion.
- Vitamin B3: Also named niacin, this ingredient can boost the skin’s vitality by offering an even and brighter skin tone.
- Hyaluronic Acid: It is an effective moisturizing agent with strong water absorption property. While applied on the surface of your skin, it can retain hydration and continually moisturize your skin.
- Snow Fungus Extract: Known as the “queen of natural moisturizers”, this ingredient is rich in mucopolysaccharide and other natural moisturizing factors. Its long-lasting moisturizing ability promises you glowing and hydrating skin.
- Allantoin: Repairs and soothes fragile skin while enhancing hydration.
- Tea Tree Blend Essential Oils: Helps to balance and cleanse skin with anti-fungus and sterilizing effects.
This jelly is paraben and preservative free as well. I love this night jelly ~ I usually like to have 2, maybe 3 sleeping packs options at any given point ~ and I find I reach for this one a lot. It is soothing, cooling, refreshing ~ smells great, helps reduce the oil on my skin while healing blemishes and controlling new outbreaks. This is a perfect summertime sleeping pack for oily skin folks. Oh and it is very hydrating ~ my average oil/moisture tests had 45% in oil increase and 46% in moisture increase ~ it is very balanced, so don’t worry about the oil increase. I totally recommend this product. [purchase Naruko Boutique | Beautibi ** ]
Naurko Boutique is currently having buy one, get one free on this product. I did purchase more from Naruko and I have been very happy with their service. You should note that the expiration date on this special is 10/2016, so don’t purchase 10 of these unless you have a lot of friends and family that will use them! I can use 2 of these in that time frame (look how much I have used in a month so far!) but I thought I would let my readers know that it does expire in October.
A’Pieu Fresh Mate Mask in Tea Tree (Calming) This is a clear gel and it contains 1,500 mg of Tea Tree extracts and 1000ppm of Tea Tree Oil, so it really will help soothe and reduce blemishes. It also has rosemary extracts, which is an astringent and removes excess oil, along with aloe vera for soothing and calming skin. This can be used also as a wash off mask or spot treatment for blemishes. I actually like using this as a spot treatment ~ the gel really helps reduce swelling and redness and helps get rid of whiteheads.
This does smell like tea tree and is a clear gel that quickly absorbs into my skin and whereas it is moisturizing enough, I find that its matte finish, transparency and quick absorption makes it great as a spot treatment. I used this a lot as a spot treatment when I had a horrible blemish recently due to a reaction to a product and it did help calm down my skin during the day. I did a before and after test with my digital skin analyzer and came up with an increase of 36% increase in oil and moisture levels. [purchase SkimMilkBar | eBay | KollectionK |
Potions & Lotions
I have three products in my lotions section ~ cosRX is the newest in the bunch whereas A’Pieu and Tosowoong are just about used up. All three of them have different textures ~ cosRX and A’Pieu have the lightest texture while Tosowoong is more thick and dense. cosRX is an oil-free moisturizer, A’Pieu is an emulsion and Tosowoong is a lotion. All three of them are superb.
cosRX Oil-Free Ultra Moisturizing Lotion with Birch Sap So, when I purchased this a while back, I was just thinking of trying it out as a summer time lotion. Nothing major and just see how it rolls. I haven’t been too impressed with cosRX more recent skincare products, such as their honey mask or low pH cleanser, so I didn’t have any major expectations for this product. Well, knock me down with a feather! cosRX is BACK!! Yeah, baby, yeah. This is an ultra moisturizing product and that is due to this lotion containing 70% birch sap and sodium lactate, along with sodium hyaluronate and glycerin.
- Betula Platyphylla Japonica (birch sap) Juice is full of compounds that will help tone, moisturize and make your face smooth, supple and radiant. It is also known as the Water of Life and contains high concentrates of amino acids, minerals, vitamins such as magnesium, potassium, enzymes, sodium, iron, vitamin C and sugars. Birch Sap has been traditionally used in Northern European countries and the Baltic regions and it will protect and combat free radicals due to its powerful anti-aging and antioxidant ingredient
- Sodium Lactate is derived from fermented sugars and has amazing hydrating properties. It can increase the water moisture content of your skin by 90%, which makes it a powerful humectant and will make your skin supple and elastic, preventing wrinkles and sagging.
- Glycerin moisturizes and hydrates the skin, leaving your face feeling smooth and soft. It also is an humectant that attracts water to hydrate the skin and seals in moisture which maintains the skin’s water balance on an intercellular level, making the skin look healthy, moist (not dry and scaly), soft to touch, and is also an emollient, leaving your skin looking radiant and supple
- Sodium Hyaluronate is an intensive moisturizing ingredient which bonds water to keep skin hydrated. It is a natural substance found in the human body and it made up of amino and uronic acids, and helps retain 100 to 1,000 times its own water weight in our skin cells.
This has a tea tree scent to it and I looked at the ingredients list again and sure enough, tea tree is included in this product ~ as the last ingredient, but the scent is there! It disappears quickly enough, but I got really excited about this lotion because of the tea tree. Oil-free (more on that later), massive water bomb, absorbs quickly, satin finish PLUS anti-bacterial and blemish fighting? Deal me in! I’ve been using this lotion during the day for several weeks now and I really love how smooth my skin feels after I apply this ~ it has a nice slip to it that makes you feel like it has some oils in it, but there isn’t. This is very lightweight and the increase in my oil/water levels on my skin were both 66% on average ~ yep, I told you it was a water bomb! But it is balanced so there is no greasy or oily feeling. Two thumbs up and this is one moisturizer that I think everyone can use.
Oil Free? But it has … lemon peel oil and tea tree oil… Look, I think that this is oil free in the sense that it doesn’t contain oils like jojoba, shea butter, almond, sunflower, safflower, olive and so on. I use essential oils all the time and I don’t considered them in the same way as jojoba oil. Since these two are the last in the ingredient list, I don’t think it is going to affect your skin that much in terms of oil and in fact, tea tree and lemon oils act as astringents. So, technically, yes, there are oils. But they are not the heavy oils that can cause oily skin to turn into a grease bucket. [purchase Memebox | Cupidrop]
These two lotions are pretty much used up and gone, baby, gone, but I really enjoyed them.
A’Pieu Nonco Tea Tree Emulsion This is SO cheap. In price, not effectiveness. Check out the price at Rose Rose Shop and TesterKorea!! Of course, Rose Rose Shop and TesterKorea will charge you for shipping, so I am sure it will go up in price based on that. It is still pretty inexpensive when you purchase from eBay or w2Beauty and they have free shipping. W2Beauty also has new promo codes monthly, so you can save more. It does smell very much like tea tree, but I happen to like that scent, so it is not bothersome to me. This lightweight, non-sticky, milky-white emulsion absorbs quickly and is to be used before a moisturizer, but I used this in place of a moisturizer, due to my oily skin. My face feels hydrated and moist without that oily feeling. I really loved using this emulsion and it does help with reducing redness. This is balanced as my readings for oil/water increases on my skin were around 68% increase in oil and 67% in moisture. Yeah, this is a hydrating bomb with tea tree ~ if you have dry skin, but suffer from blemishes, you might want to try this one. It certainly is inexpensive!
This contains an Herbal AC Complex made from lavender, rosemary, sage, chamomile, peppermint along with 0.2% tea tree oil. Lavender helps soothe and refresh, rosemary will reduce inflammation and irritation, sage extracts relaxes and relieves stress, chamomile will also soothe as well as soften your skin and peppermint helps revitalize and energize. Tosowoong Tea Tree AC Control Soothing Lotion This lotion is supposed to help with oil and acne prone skin, while keeping the balance between moisture and oil. It is good in reducing redness and soothing the skin. The main ingredients are tea tree leaf water(65%), tea tree extracts (3%), rosemary and adenosine. This also has galactomyces ferment filtrates (fermented grains) and peptides, so this is a nice anti-aging lotion as well as a oily skin and blemish fighter! This lotion does not smell like tea tree oil that much but does have a bit of a chemical scent ~ it does disappear quickly.
It is probably the most “thickest” lotion of the trio here and I use this more in the late fall and winter, when the weather is cooler. It absorbs pretty quickly and does not leave a dewy finish ~ it isn’t the most hydrating product ~ average oil/water test results increase of 10% both in oil and water for my skin, but it really helps control the oil. Tea Tree Oil
The classic!! What can I say about tea tree oil? It is great stuff and you can make your own skincare products with it. Just be careful and never use undiluted tea tree essential oil directly on your skin ~ make sure you cut it with something like a carrier oil, aloe vera or lots of water. Other essential oils that I like to mix with tea tree oil are lavender, lemon, rosemary, clove, clary sage, thyme, cinnamon, peppermint, spearmint, sandalwood and eucalyptus. Pictured here are Aura Cacia and ProYou brands, but really ~ just find one that you like and give it a try!
What can you make? Scrubs for one ~ use salt or sugar, add few drops of tea tree oil and castor oil for a great one-two punch. Castor oil is also an anti-bacterial and anti-fungal, plus it is full of omega 3 and omega 6 essential fatty acids that will help moisturize. I use tea tree scrubs on my feet all the time, as I love to walk around barefoot ~ and who knows what my feet picked up!
Soothing skin treatment for rashes and irritated skin ~ I like using aloe vera, oil (castor, jojoba, coconut) and tea tree oil to make a nice soothing skincare product for my skin. A few years ago, I had major surgery in the middle of a hot summer and I couldn’t always take a shower daily, so this helped keep my skin refreshed, clean and prevented skin issues.
You can make your own facial and body mists too ~ just add some tea tree oil to witch hazel and distilled water, shake it up and go mist. Foot baths ~ Add your tea tree oil to warm water, mixed with some epsom salts and crushed lavender buds for a lovely soothing and relaxing soak for your feet. It not only helps clean and disinfect your feet, it makes them smell good too!
Latest Arrivals in Casa Unboxing Beauty
I’ve already talked about Naurko already in this blog post with two products, but these are late additions ~ they have a whole line of Tea Tree products ~ lotions, oils, serums, cleansers, sunscreen ~ I have purchased several! The body gel I mentioned in previous blog post, my Mega Cool-Down, but I also have their sunscreen and a compact that looks to be a more portable cushion of their sunscreen. I also received the Dran Tea Tree Wonder Spot Gel Essence, so this is now just a quick round up of my latest tea tree items.
D’ran Tea Tree Wonder Spot Gel Essence I purchased this from Memebox as I do remember using a D’ran product (Wonder Serum) and I really liked that. I normally use my Melano Spot Essence for blemishes, but during the daytime, I am not hauling around my silver tube and applying the slightly oil product to my face. I thought this would be a nice change to put in my purse and use during the day to spot treat blemishes. It has a sponge tip applicator and smells like tea tree, for sure! The gel is very lightweight and I just dab it on and it absorbs quickly. No muss, no fuss! Very handy to have. This came in handy as I was running out of my A’Pieu Calming mask ~ plus it is much smaller to carry around. This has some great ingredients besides tea tree ~ willow bark to help act as an astringent and exfoliate and fermented soybeans to help moisturize, so you don’t have dry, flaky blemishes (one of the worse things in the world to have!) [purchase Memebox | Dran via Korean Buddy ** ]
Naruko Tea Tree Shine Control & Blemish Clear Shower Gel This is a nice body wash in a gel form and I just put it on a body poof and it laters up well. It is refreshing and smells like spearmint ~ great scent! If you suffer from blemishes or rashes on your body, you will really like this a lot ~ it is also very affordable [purchase Naruko Boutique]
I should just get stock in Naruko!
Naruko Tea Tree Blemish Clear Cushion Foundation SPF50 +++ A BB cushion? I thought I swore off of these. Well, I did. But when you mix SPF with tea tree in a cushion, you damn well know I will be interested. This mint green compact houses a huge mirror and it is just like a regular cushion. The shade is a warmer yellowish tone, which works fine with my skin. It does smell like tea tree, not spearmint but the scent goes away quickly. It is a sheer coverage with the tint after blending in, but then again, that is on my skin ~ my skin tone matches this tint pretty well, so if you have darker or paler or pinker tones than me, you might not think it is that sheer. The compact is pretty in its simplicity and I will use this up this summer for touch ups on my face during the day and night ~ the amount of coverage is what I look for when my skin is behaving properly ~ this covers up minor redness and blemishes without issues. [purchase Naruko Boutique]
Naruko Tea Tree Anti-Acne Sunscreen SPF50 +++ This is a very unusual product ~ the sunscreen is very liquid-y and you have to shake the tube to mix it up ~ you can hear the mixing beads in the tube while you shake! It sounds like an aerosol paint can ~ I was surprised when I read the instructions and the sounds it makes ~ ha! And you have to work quick on your skin, as it is a liquid sunscreen, but once it is applied, it dries down nicely with a semi-satin finish. I don’t know why they tinted this, as it really doesn’t matter ~ at least on my skin tone ~ but others who are paler, pinker or darker skin toned, probably cannot use this. But if you are medium, warm or neutral skin tone, this will work fine on your skin. This has physical and chemical sun-blocking ingredients, along with tree tree oil and salicylic acid to help oil control, while protecting your skin from damaging UV rays with an SPF 50. [purchase Naruko Boutique]
- Naruko Tea Tree Blemish Clear Cushion Foundation
- Naruko Tea Tree Anti-Acne Sunscreen
You can see that once it is blended out, they are very similar in shade. These products are very similar in performance except the compact is more dense and not as watery as the sunscreen. They are both sheer and do not leave my skin dewy, but not matte either ~ it is more of a semi-satin finish ~ almost matte, but not quite. The sunscreen is very portable and uni-sex. The ingredient list is quite different as the compact has a lot more ingredients, so these are not the same product with just one being in compact and the other in a tube. I thought they might be the same, until I read the ingredients list. I happen to like both products and when I choose one of the other is basically whether I am at home or not. The sunscreen would be applied at home for the most part, where as the compact I would carry with me in my purse for applications through-out the day ~ the big oversized mirror really helps!
So, if you got this far, congrats!! Yeah, I love my tea tree! It has been truly a life saver with my oily and blemish prone skin and I doubt I will ever stop using it. I love the scent ~ maybe out of necessity because I have to use it so much 😉 ~ and it does really help treat blemishes and other skin issues. I hope you enjoyed my Tea Tree Mega Post ~ some of my products here are almost used up, but all of these I would recommend in one form or another. If I had to pick only a few products from my list, that would be difficult!! ahaha. I would say The Saem Healing Tea Garden Tea Tree Cleansing Water, Ciracle Anti-Blemish Teatree Wash, Innisfree Capsule Recipe Bija & Tea Tree, Balanced Guru Scalp Detox, Secret Key Tea Tree Refresh Calming Toner, Benton Honest TT Mist, cosRX Oil-Free Ultra Moisturizing Lotion with Birch Sap, A’Pieu Nonco Tea Tree Emulsion, the Tea Tree Naruko line (yeah, I cheated here) and a bottle of tea tree oil would be my list.
Which is a lot ~ but these products and brands are standouts for tea tree goodness. It is a good thing that the majority of the items on my list are not expensive and most of them are found easily. And this isn’t the end of my Tea Tree affair ~ I recently purchased a Memebox Acne Skin Box ~ it is in stock again and it seems to be popular as it sells out and then Memebox will restock it. This box has 2 Tea Tree items in it ~ Skinfood and D’ran ~ and the random Bon Vivant Mask could be the Tea Tree and Mint or Aloe vesion.
Skinfood Tea Tree Bubble Cleansing Foam, Papa Recipe Trouble AC Toner, D’RAN Wonder Teatree Essence, Innisfree Broccoli Clearing Lotion, Bon Vivant Mask in Tea Tree and Mint or Aloe vesion
I will unbox this one later on this week, just because it does seem that Memebox will carry it off and on over the summer.
Have you tried any of my tea tree products that I mentioned/reviewed here? What were they and how did they work for you? Are you interested in trying any of these ~ I recommend Naruko, seriously…. Do you have any favorite tea tree items that I didn’t mention here? Let me know in the comments below ~ I love to hear from my readers 🙂

Whoo! I love this mega post! The CosRx lotion is going on my wishlist now. Question: I recently bought tea tree and grapeseed oils in the hopes of some essential oil DIY skincare. What ratio of tea tree/carrier oil do you like to use?

hi nanners – I follow the standard ratio for a 2% strength if I am using it for my face – 13 drops to 30 mL (1 oz) of oil
If I need more, like a 5%, I will adjust the tea tree (that would be for rashes, severe acne, other skin issues)
If you need to make one for foot problems- the best is a 50% solution overall for Athlete’s foot. The only time that I have read that you would apply tea tree directly undiluted would be for toe nail fungus, probably because the toe nail isn’t your skin.
oh and if you want some nice airless pump bottles for your products, check out these at amazon – I purchased a trio and I will have to get more ~ they are also great for decanting and travelin.
Awesome, thank you!
