For the last couple of months, I have been transitioning from the cold winter months to the warmer spring months (although it did snow on April 2nd and we also had temps in the 70’s!) and I wanted to try a few hydrating and moisturizing products before I moved into my full blown warm month routine.
I choose to add following products for my skin care routine
- Manyo Factory Active Refresh Herb Oil
- Blithe Tundra Chaga Pressed Serum
- Goodal Bright Sleeping Pack
- Primary Raw DoYou Soy Bio Lumpoule
I also used Primary Raw Soy Milk Ferment Cleanser Toner (review here), but ran out before the two months were completed. I am currently using Acwell Licorice pH Balancing Cleansing Toner
My Daytime Skincare Routine
I have linked my reviews to my other skin care products that I have used.
Primary Raw Soy Milk Ferment Cleanser Toner /Acwell Licorice pH Balancing Cleansing Toner –> Zymogen Houttuynia Cordata Ferment Serum (T-Zone) –> Primary Raw’s DoYou Soy Bio Lumpoule –> The Face Shop Chia Seed Watery Lotion –> Melano CC Essence with Vitamin C & E (spot treatment only) Whamisa Organic Flowers Eye Essence
My Nighttime Skincare Routine
Primary Raw Soy Milk Ferment Cleanser Toner /Acwell Licorice pH Balancing Cleansing Toner –> Manyo Factory Active Refresh Herb Oil (T-zone) –> Kuramoto Komeyu Pure Rice Oil (forehead, cheeks) –> Blithe Tundra Chaga Pressed Serum –> Goodal Bright Sleeping Pack –> Melano CC Essence with Vitamin C & E (spot treatment only) –> Zymogen AC Dr Houttuynia Cordata Ferment Cream (spot treatment only) Whamisa Organic Flowers Eye Essence
I am currently testing Kuramoto Komeyu Pure Rice Oil, Whamisa Organic Flowers Eye Essence and Acwell Licorice pH Balancing Cleansing Toner
My skin type and concerns: oily, aging, blemish prone, hyper-pigmentation issues, clogged pores, fine lines and wrinkles. Skin oil/moisture readings were taken 3 minutes after product was fully absorbed.
Manyo Factory Active Refresh Herb Oil (S.Korea) I have oily, blemish prone skin and was looking to try another product that I could use to help reduce swelling, redness and prevent new blemishes. Once I opened up this oil from Manyo Factory, I knew this was going to be used for a night time treatment only. I wasn’t sure what I was thinking when I purchased this, but I had thought it was going to be more watery, light weight and more of a dry oil. NOPE! This is an OIL. It is very much an oil. It shines and glistens just like an oil. It is also very pungent ~ it contains 15 types of herbal oils in here, and it smells like a tangy, stinky herbal-fest ~ tea tree has nothing on this oil! After the initial whiff, I realized I really loved this stinky oil scent, as I am all about herbals and I put a few dibs and dabs on my T-Zone and massaged it in. This has a glass eye drop applicator where the tip is bent slightly ~ I guess so a gush of herbal oil doesn’t flow out ~ you really don’t need a lot of this product.
Despite cosDNA stating that this has a lot of acne triggers, I found that this oil worked really well to control acne. It is made without parabens artificial dyes, fragrance and mineral oil and uses USA, USD and French ECOCET certified organic ingredients
- Tea Tree Leaf Oil This product contains 11% tea tree leaf oil, which is known for its topical antiseptic and anti-fungal properties and help target and treat blemish-prone skin. It also reduces oil and sebum production on your skin, while not disrupting the moisture level.
- Tamanu Oil This ingredient is extracted from the nuts of the Ati tree and is probably responsible for the aromatic, pungent scent of this herbal oil. Tamanu is a powerful skin regenerator as it helps promote new tissue growth, which speeds up wound healing. It is not only an anti-bacterial, it is an antioxidant, antibiotic (lactone compound) and anti-flammatory (calophyllolide and coumarin compounds). It helps prevent UV sun damage to your skin as it can absorb UV rays.
You can see how less than one dropper full applied to my skin is more than enough. My hand is so shiny with the oil ~ however, within about 5 minutes, the oil does seem to absorb into my skin and so long I don’t slather it on, my face is not overly greasy or oily. However, this is not a product that I want on my face during the daytime. Only for bedtime.
I am really happy and pleased with the results ~ it didn’t really control my oily skin, but it did help heal blemishes, reduce redness and swelling and it was very soothing. It didn’t cause any more breakouts as it didn’t clog my pores. It doesn’t do anything for acne hyper-pigmentation ~ for that Melano CC spot treatment reigns supreme. That said, this product is really nice and soothing on my skin and it is pretty economical, as you do not need a lot of this product. I also like that this is a multi-use product ~ you can use it as a scalp treatment and massage it into your scalp, to help remove excess oil and debris, heal rashes and skin issues. Also, as a massage oil for your feet ~ it is refreshing if your feet are achy and tired, as well as a massage/headache oil ~ just rub into temple area.
Ingredients: squalane, isoamyl laurate, melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) leaf oil (11%) , calophyllum tacamahaca (tamanu) seed oil, limnantes alba (meadowfoam) seed oil, oenothera biennis (evening primrose) oil, olea europaea (olive) fruit oil, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil, camellia sinensis seed oil, juniperus communis fruit oil, eucalyptus globulus leaf oil, pogostemon cablin (patchouli) oil, calendula officinalis flower oil, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf oil, salvia officinalis (sage) oil, Tocopherol (vitamin E) cosDNA.com analysis

Blithe Tundra Chaga Pressed Serum (S. Korea) I admit that I only purchased this expensive product because I was curious what a “pressed serum” was. A pressed serum is a serum and moisturizer combined and this particular product has a bouncy, soft, custard like texture. Blithe makes several different types of Pressed Serums ~ Velvet Yam, which looked like it was more for very dry skin and Crystal Iceplant, which is a soothing gel for oily skin. I went with the Tundra Chaga, as it is supposed to be anti-aging and I am still trying to find products that help aging concerns while not making my face oily and break out. Blithe Tundra Chaga is supposed to help with reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, even out skin texture and brighten your tone and combat dryness.
Blithe Tundra Chaga is made from… 60% Chaga Mushroom extracts! And yes, harvested from the Tundras. According to Blithe, their mushroom extracts are cooled instead of heat processed, which helps keep the original nutritious benefits of the ingredient intact. This also has some fermented oils ~ olive oil, which helps lock in moisture without being heavy, argan oil to help soften and hydrate
Chaga Mushroom (Inonotus obliquus) is a mushroom that grows on birch trees and it really doesn’t look like a mushroom ~ it looks like the charred remains on a tree ~ and it cannot be harvested by just plucking it off the tree. It has to be chiseled off without harming the tree ~ and can be re-harvested many times over. Chaga mushroom health and restorative properties go back thousands of years and contains many benefits. Chaga contains betulin, which is an anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, antiseptic and anti-viral compound and it helps the growth of new skin cells. It also contains beta-glucan, which is a moisturizing anti-inflammatory. Chaga also is a powerful anti-oxidant and it helps your skin be tone, firm and maintain its elasticity, which helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
This product is free from parabens, sulfates, phthalates, mineral and synthetic dyes.
As you can see, this is a mushroomy-brown shade and its scent is very light. It really doesn’t smell much like anything, maybe argan oil? It disappears quickly, so I am not too concerned about it. As I stated, this serum is bouncy and has a custard feel to it. It comes out soft, like butter that has been left out on the counter top too long and as I massage it into my skin, it liquefies quickly and absorbs into my skin. The trick to using this product is not too use too much of it ~ it has a fat-like texture (re butter) so if you use too much, your skin will be greasy and sticky. For hours. Just a pea sized amount and massage it into your skin ~ if you need more, just layer.
As my skin is very oily and even with a light touch, I found that this serum gave my skin too much of a sheen for day time use. I bet it will be fantastic for those with dry skin, however! This serum increased both the oil and moisture content of my skin by 47% on average, so it is very moisturizing and hydrating.
I used this as my night cream for both my face and neck. I didn’t see any brightening from this product over the course of 2 months that I used it, but my skin was soft, had great texture and I didn’t really have any blemish issues ~ BUT I also didn’t apply this on my chin, nose or most of my forehead either ~ which are my blemish area hot spots. I just didn’t want to take that chance. I am not very impressed by this product as it was not inexpensive and felt that I could have lived with out it. It isn’t a BAD product, it just doesn’t excite me. However, based on its performance, I am very interested in trying out the Blithe Crystal Iceplant Pressed Serum, as that is for oily skin. I may wind up purchasing that soon ~ not sure yet.

This Pressed Serum is fortified with Chaga Mushroom extract, which is cold-processed to preserve the mushroom’s optimal nutrients. The extract is combined with a blend of fermented oils—including olive and argan— to provide the skin with lasting hydration while protecting against harsh climates and pollution. Goodal Nature’s Solution Bright Sleeping Pack (S. Korea) I adore fermented Goodal products and in fact, I have some more that I will be starting to use soon. This is their Nature’s Solution Bright Sleeping pack/mask, which one of the leading ingredients is tangerine extracts that has been cold-fermented for 3 days. Goodal is known for their fermented products and I am also known to be a magpie, attracted to fermented ingredients AND ones that put claims to brighten my skin tone!
So looking this sleeping pack, it is a gel cream, a nice orange shade, but it isn’t orange when it is absorbed into the skin ~ don’t worry about looking like an This has little yellow “vitamin capsules” that will melt into your skin as you apply this gel and it does have a light scent of tangerines.
This contains fermented citrus unshiu peel and fermented ingredients can penetrate your skin layers more quickly, effectively and go deeper into your dermal layer, because they have been reduced to smaller molecules. This means that a fermented ingredient is more concentrated and nutrient-dense, containing more antioxidant properties. Citrus Unshiu helps tighten pores, brightens skin tone and helps bring vitality to your skin.
This does have niacinamide and niacin (vitamin B3) which will help brighten your skin tone. Goodal Bright Sleeping Pack also contains these vitamins as well
- Retinyl Palmitate is part vitamin A (retinol) and part palmitic acid. It is a powerful antioxidant and helps regulate skin-cell communication. Combination of retinol (pure vitamin A) and palmitic acid. Research has shown it to be effective as an antioxidant and skin-cell communicator ~ this means it can tell cells how to behave like a healthy skin cell or block harmful substances.
- Thiamine HCI (vitamin B1) helps maintain healthy skin and is reported to act as a co-enzyme in amino acid metabolism. This product contains a lot of B vitamins and our body cannot store B vitamins in quantity so it is important to not only take supplements and eat foods rich in these vitamins, but it is very beneficial to apply them topically. Not only is the Vitamin B Complex necessary for healthy body and skin, it helps combat free radical damage and reverse it.
- Riboflavin (vitamin B2) is important to your connective tissues and it can help promote faster wound and burn healing and treat skin issues. It helps enzymes protect free radical damage to your skin and body.
- Pantothenic Acid (vitamin B5) is a humectant and helps promote wound healing, along with hydration, which will leave your skin soft and smooth
- Biotin (vitamin B7) helps heal and moisturize your skin.
- Folic Acid (vitamin B9) is a powerful anti-aging vitamin and will help firm and tone your skin. It helps decrease blemishes by working with other antioxidants to remove toxins from your body. It also helps keep your skin moisturized, which gives your skin a radiant glow.
- Ascorbic Acid (vitamin C) is one of the best types of Vitamin C out there due to extensive research. It helps reduce the appearance of hyper-pigmentation caused by sun damage, reduce swelling and redness, as it is an anti-inflammatory, stimulates collagen production for firmer, toned skin and will help fade blemish scars and hyper-pigmentation.
- Tocopherol (vitamin E) is a powerful antioxidant and combats free radicals and helps reverse their damage to your skin, such as hyper-pigmentation, sun damage, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
You can see how beautiful this product is ~ a lovely, translucent orange with yellow vitamin capsules. It is smooth to apply and leaves a very high glossy sheen to my skin. And it is sticky. Sticky, sticky, sticky.. Everything sticks to it. It is not fast absorbing at all. I have to pat it into my skin and even then, my face feels tacky. When I wake up in the morning, my face still feels sticky and I quickly use cleansing water to remove the residue from my face.
I will give it this ~ it is a very balancing gel cream on my face ~ my lipids (oil) and moisture (water) levels increased the same ~ about 48%. My face is very sticky, but hydrated and moist.
Honestly, I cannot wait for this tub o’ sticky orange goo (that is now I am viewing it, as it is SO STICKY) to be finished. I love Goodal products and this could have been great, but it was sticky. Oh, and it didn’t brighten my face. It hydrated it, I didn’t break out, but no skin brightener here.

Primary Raw Soy Milk Bio Lumpoule & Multi Balm (S. Korea) Okay!! Here is a winner. When I saw this come out on Primary Raw’s IG feed months ago, I drooled for a bit, then wiped my chin and contacted Korean Buddy (more on that at the end of this blog post on where you can purchase) to get my hands on this product. It had not yet been released to the USA markets and I also wanted to get some diffusers from Primary Raw’s online shop as well. I love Primary Raw products (for the most part ~ I only had one meh item)
A lumpoule stands for luminous ampoule ~ and according to Glow Recipe’s website, it means that it “strobing with skincare. Skincare strobing is a fresh-faced, youthful take on the contouring trend, defining and highlighting the high-points of the face with dewy skincare treatments.” Iiiiiiii don’t know about THAT, as I have used Soy BIO+ Fermented Lumpoule in the past and Soy BIO was the first brand that I knew that used the term lumpoule. And they mentioned nothing about skin care strobing. In fact, on Amazon.ca, Primary Raw’s description is how I knew it to be based on Soy BIO’s description “The all in one Lumpoule stands for ‘Lump’+ ‘Ampoule’= which equals Lump full of ampoule. All in one, it means that it is a lump full of Doyou Ampoule” I will go with Primary Raw’s description, as this product does not strobe.
Primary Raw Lumpoule is a 3 in 1 product ~ an essence, serum and ampoule, which will help calm and moisture your skin, while helping to even out your skin tone. It contains no water, parabens, synthetic dyes, synthetic fragrances, mineral oil or alcohol. The bottle is beautiful ~ a lovely, slightly frosted clear glass, pear shaped bottle, with silver trimmings and an easy pump applicator. Once this product is gone, I have some Primary Raw oils and diffuser reeds that I purchased to upcycle this bottle into a room diffuser! You can see the photo in the first advert after the ingredient listing for an example of this.
- Oryza Sativa (rice) helps supply moisture and contains a slew of nutritious compounds that your skin requires ~ such as amino acids, vitamins B1, B2 and E, phosphorus, iron, lysine, selenium, calcium, minerals and proteins. Rice will help promote skin cellular activity that has slowed down due to age and external factors, such as stress and pollution, and will help restore your skin’s youthful appearance.
- Sodium Hyaluronate is an intensive moisturizing ingredient which bonds water to keep skin hydrated. It is a natural substance found in the human body and it made up of amino and uronic acids, and helps retain 100 to 1,000 times its own water weight in our skin cells.
- Soybean Seed contains isoflavonoids, phenolic acids, flavonoids, tannins among its many components. Soy is an anti-inflammatory, a powerful antioxidant, combating free radicals and reverse their damage, stimulates collagen production, helps brighten and even out skin tone and also protects your skin from UV rays. This is one of my favorite ingredients as I think it really helps skin types like my own ~ oily, but aging.
- Lactobacillus/Soybean Ferment Filtrate Fermented ingredients in skin care products are highly moisturizing and also have antibacterial properties, which is why my blemish-prone skin loves it so much. It not only hydrates, but nourishes and protects your skin
- Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) ~ This is a powerful antioxidant that acts as an anti-inflammatory, improves your skin elasticity, enhance the skin barrier function and also it helps to even out skin tone and reduce post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation.
- Centella Asiatica is a common herbal ingredient that is used medicinally to help speed up wound healing, such as blemishes and skin rashes. It also helps minimize the appearance of pores, and since it stimulates collagen production, it will make your skin more supple and firm.
- Snail Secretion Filtrate will increase skin elasticity and increase firmness, while helping repair skin from blemishes, reducing acne and working to lighten hyper-pigmentation scarring.
- Chamomilla Recutita (chamomile) is a soothing herb which helps calm down the skin and relieve redness effectively. It has antioxidants and antimicrobial properties, it helps soften skin and helps heal wounds, so it is effective in treating skin problems.
This comes out with a nice weight ~ it is like a gel, but it starts to melt quickly on my skin. It has a very faint scent that is similar to other Primary Raw DoYou products, but it disappears quickly. This product reminds me of thickened hyaluronic acid essence. It just glides on my skin, like liquid silk and quickly turns into a watery serum once the heat on my skin activates it. It does take a minute or two before it is completely absorbed into my skin, but it does and leaves no oily residue.
This is another product that balances my oil and moisture levels ~ it increased both by 40% on average, which is great for a serum (or lumpoule). My face does feel hydrated and moist. I also feel that while it did not reduce hyper-pigmentation, it was soothing, moisturizing and plumped and firmed up my skin. I did not experience any abnormal behavior on my skin, such as a rash of blemishes, using this product. This is not an inexpensive product at all but I have been using it twice daily for 2 months now and I am only 1/2 way thru the 60 mL bottle. If you are looking for a 3 in 1 product, I do recommend this lumpoule.
Description: Soybean isoflavones promote collagen production, making this serum ideal for those with dull and depleted or aging skin. Centella asiatica extract tones and tightens while hyaluronic acid smooths and moisturize. Primary Raw is well known for no water based cosmetics and only uses natural ingredients. The all in one Lumpoule stands for “Lump”+ “Ampoule”= which equals Lump full of ampoule. All in one, it means that it is a lump full of Doyou Ampoule. “Doyou” means soy milk in Korean. Soy works to brighten and refresh the skin while a blend of natural botanical extracts that calm and soothe skin. Hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and various flower extracts keep skin dewy and moisturized. Primary Raw’s Lumpoule provides calming, moisture, nutrient, and whitening for your skin. Work great even for sensitive skin, absorbs quickly, takes care of blemishes, and also re-textures your skin. Creates a moisture barrier to lock in hydration for a brighter, glowing complexion.
Ingredients: oryza sativa (rice) bran extract, butylene glycol, dipropylene glycol, niacinamide, glycerin, 1,2-hexanediol, sodium hyaluronate, betaine, glycine soja (soybean) seed extract, centella asiatica extract, camellia sinensis (green tea) leaf extract, piper methysticum leaf/root/steam extract, glycyrrhiza glabra (licorice) root extract, ginkgo biloba leaf extract, citrus limon (lemon) fruit extract, hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel) extract, chamomilla recutita (matricaria) flower/leaf extract, snail secretion filtrate, lactobacillus/soybean ferment extract, lonicera japonica (honeysuckle) flower extract, zanthoxylum piperitum (sichuan pepper) fruit extract, ammonium acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP copolymer, pulsatilla koreana (pasqueflower) extract, citrus paradisi (grapefruit) fruit extract, carbomer, arginine, sodium polyacrylate, PEG-60 hydrogenated castor oil, adenosine, disodium EDTA, citrus aurantium bergamia (bergamot) fruit oil, citrus limon (lemon) peel oil, cananga odorata flower oil, juniperus oxycedrus fruit oil, salvia officinalis (sage) oil, geranium maculatum oil cosDNA.com analysis
Multi Balm So the lumpoule came with this ADORABLE mini multi-use balm. I mean, look how cute that is! It is a little larger than the size of a quarter and has a mini mirror when you open the compact. I am assuming this is the “solid” version of the lumpoule and it contains rice bran extract which will help soothe your skin and seal in moisture. This multi-balm can be used to help give extra moisture to dry and flaky patches on your skin.
This balm is slightly on the oily side ~ when I did a skin analyzer test, it increased my skin oil levels by 55% and my moisture levels by 54% ~ however, it did leave a nice shiny trail of balmy grease on my skin. Use sparingly if you have oily skin and in fact, because it is too oily for my face, I use it as a cuticle and nail balm! haha

Final Thoughts
I started this review with one of the 2 products I really liked and ended it with the other product that I really liked. Manyo Factory Herb Oil, despite being strongly scented (and yes, it is very strongly scented ~ I cannot stress this enough) is actually a pleasant oil to use for oily and blemish prone skin. I could not use this oil during the day, as it was very oily, but at night time, it really was a great product for helping soothe, heal and reduce inflammation of blemishes. I also like that it a multi-use product and have used it on my scalp as a hair treatment and also massaged the soles of my feet with it ~ it is very relaxing.
Blithe Tundra Chaga Pressed Serum… hmmm. Well, maybe I just picked the wrong product ~ I know there is an iced, which looks to be for more oily skin, but I am stuck in this weird place where I need more anti-aging products but also products that help with my oily skin. I felt that this didn’t really impress me with its benefits based on the cost. However, if you have dry skin, this probably would work nicely for you. I just didn’t see anything wow with this expensive product. I might purchase the oily skin version of this product, or might now. Not sure, quite frankly.
Goodal Bright Sleep Pack ~Too sticky!! This lovely tangerine scented gel night pack was just too sticky for me. I felt like I was spreading marmalade on my face and it never quite absorbed. I would wake up with a sticky face. Yep. So, nopes with this one. I did love the scent, however.
Primary Raw DoYou Soy Bio Lumpoule Saved the best for last. This is so silky, so smooth, glides over my skin like a dream. It hydrates, moisturizes and really is a luxury skin care item for me. I wasn’t that thrilled with the Soy Toner Cleanser, but this Lumpoule redeemed that product and I am in love with this. This will be one that I will put back on a repurchase list.
What do you think? Any questions about these products? Have you tried any of them or are interested?

Now, I purchased mine via Korean Buddy. I found the product at Primary Raw’s website and then placed the order with Korean Buddy, which is a shopping service. I paid the amount that Primary Raw sold it for ~ about $50.00 ~ plus any shipping/handling costs from Korean Buddy. I love using a shopping service ~ Korean online stores gives you more samples and they have great deals. I wish I had waited a week when I had ordered it, as Primary Raw then started a campaign where they would give you a free sunscreen (and I love their sunscreen!) I have used Korean Buddy three times now and I have been very pleased with their service. It allows me to get the newest products quickly instead of waiting for a USA release and also I can order more obscure items.

Great review! I no longer am tempted to buy the Blithe Chaga Tundra, which is a good thing because it is pricey, lol!

Great reviews as usual. Ugh, that sleeping pack looked so promising. I actually don’t mind stickiness, but I have a lot of packs that just hydrate. I want brightening or something extra! –Angela
