Unboxing Winter 2015 Jouer Le Matchbox!

This is my fourth box from the quarterly subscription by Jouer cosmetics, Le Matchbox.    I really enjoy Joeur cosmetics but their subscription service seems to be falling a bit flat for me right now.  They sent out their Winter box early in time for the Holidays and since they spoiled the full box prior to sending it out, I did change my color tone from warm to cool.  I am getting tired of just getting brown and peach items.

What is Jouer Le Matchbox

A quarterly beauty subscription box, tailored just for you. No more guessing which colors are right, Jouer delivers the perfect products right to your doorstep. Each selection is determined by responses to our quiz, providing you with an assortment of full size Jouer essentials most flattering for your coloring and suitable for your skin type. Each curated box is accompanied by a mini magazine providing product details and application tips. Jouer delivers the most advanced skincare benefits, effortlessly luxurious colors, in smart on-the-go packaging. Whether you’re an experienced makeup artist, a makeup addict or need an uncomplicated way to select the right formulas and shades for effortless beauty, Le Matchbox is for you.

Jouer walks you through a little quiz to help you determine your skin tone ~ cool or warm ~ and you can then subscribe for $45.00 per quarter (it automatically renews) or a one time $65.00 box.  You can select from cool, warm or let Jouer choose for you.     Interested?  You can subscribe here  Make sure you register FIRST before you order, however, as they do have a glitch in their system.   Also, I find that if you need customer service, it is better to call their toll-free number instead of using email.

As I mentioned, I normally get the warm toned box, but after seeing the peach, brown and gold shades in the warm box, I thought it was time to shake things up a bit.  This box is the cool toned version and I think it is neutral friendly.  All swatches are at the end of the blog post.     The box always comes with a pamphlet explaining the colors, ingredients and makeup tips.

Deluxe Holiday Mini Makeup Bag  This is cute ~ I would have rather had the leopard print one that they sell on their site, but I can use this.  It is mini.  RV $12.00

Gift Card Err, yeah.  It is a $15.00 gift card to their online shop, but you know what would have BEEN BETTER?  A $15.00 gift card with FREE shipping.  As it is, I doubt I will use this gift card.

Moisturizing Lip Gloss in Ethereal  I really hate this shimmering crap.  I love Jouer’s lip glosses, but they are sheer.  And all of our lip glosses that we have gotten have been this glittery sheer shit that I am sick and tired of.  This is in Ethereal, which is a shimmering nude (ie some glitter in a clear base).  I guess I can use it as a topper to something, but Jouer has SUCH pretty non shimmery glosses, I do not understand this.   We just got a mini of some shimmering crapola lip gloss in the last box and now this?   Full Size 5 mL RV $22.00

Description: Irresistibly sheer shades loaded with Vitamin E, Shea Butter, and Jojoba Seed Oil to moisturize, soothe, nourish, rejuvenate and protect, keeping lips smooth and hydrated.

Ingredients: polybutene, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, octyldodecanol, euphorbia cerifera (candelilla) wax, ricinus communis (castor) seed oil, synthetic fluorphlogopite, copernicia cerifera (carnauba) wax, trihydroxystearin, calcium aluminum borosilicate, polyethylene, carthamus tinctorius (safflower) seed oil, silica, bumetrizole, tocopheryl acetate, tocopherol, caprylic/capric triglyceride, laminaria ochroleuca extract, punica granatum (pomegranate) extract, camellia sinensis (white tea) leaf extract, aspalathus linearis (rooibos red tea) leaf extract, vitis vinifera (grape) seed extract, ethylcellulos, isostearyl alcohol, hydrogenated dilinoleyl alcohol, butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil, phenoxyethanol. may contain (+/-): mica (ci 77019), titanium dioxide (ci 77891), iron oxides (ci 77492, 77491, 77499), red 7 lake (ci 15850:1), red 6 (ci 15850), carmine (ci 75470), red 30 lake (ci 73360), red 28 lake (ci 45410:2), yellow 5 lake (ci 19140:2).

Liquid Shimmer Eyeliner in Fox  This is why I really switched my box from warm to cool.  The warm box had Mink, which is a rich taupe, but Fox is a navy charcoal. I thought this would be a good change from my black eyeliners.  This isn’t shimmery (to me at least) ~ it is a beautiful dark charcoal with navy tones.   I do like this color a lot!  Full Size 5.5 mL RV $22.00

Description: Think you can’t pull off, or rather apply, liquid liner? Us too. That’s why we’ve created revolutionary, long-wearing liquid liners that are fool-proof. The subtle shimmer in each shade offers extreme wearability while the water-based formula allows for a little extra play time. Designed to prevent from creasing and fading to keep you looking polished throughout the day….and night. Rich in Vitamins A & E. Paraben-Free

Ingredients:  water (aqua), beeswax, propylene glycol, copernicia cerifera (carnauba) wax, peg-75 lanolin, glyceryl sterarate, peg-100 stearate, calcium aluminum borosilicate, microcrystalline wax, shellac wax, polysorbate 20, triethanolamine, polybutene, cetostearyl alcohol, polyethylene sorbitan mononstearate, magnesium aluminum silicate, xantham gum, silica, carthamus tinctorius (safflower) seed oil, camellia oleifera (green tea) leaf extract, camellia sinensis leaf extract, phenoxyethanol, capryl glycol, tocopheryl acetate, retinyl palmitate, ethylhexylglycerin, hexylene glycol. may contain (+/-): mica, titanium dioxide, iron oxides (ci 77491, ci 77492, ci 77499)

Long Wear Cream Mousse Eyeshadow in North Star  I am okay with this.  This is a shimmering white pearl shadow/highlighter and it has a great “pudding” texture to it.  It is made with marine botanicals that will help firm eyelids and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  It is very glittery, but it is micro glitter and it would look great on your cheekbones and collarbones as a highlighter.  I think they have better shades than this to pick from such as Dusk (soft plum), Night Sky (soft slate) and Galaxy (soft bronze), but it seems they were going for the glitterama with this box. Full Size 5 g RV $30.00

Ingredients:  Isododecane Polymethylsilsesquioxane Behenyl Methacrylate t-Butyl Methacrylate Copolymer Polysilicone-11 Calcium Sodium Borosilicate Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate Bismuth Oxychloride Silica Phenoxyethanol Tocopheryl Acetate Ethylhexylglycerin Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride Alaria esculenta extract MAY CONTAIN: +/- Mica (CI 77019) Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891) Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499) Carmine (CI 75470)

Top to Bottom: Moisturizing Lip Gloss in Ethereal, Liquid Shimmer Eyeliner in Fox, Long-Wear Creme Mousse Eyeshadow in North Star

I guess I feel a bit ripped off in this quarter’s La Matchbox.  I am not sure what is going on at Jouer, but out of the 4 boxes I have received, 1 was outstanding (Spring), 1 was nice (Fall) and two are substandard (Summer and Winter).  I am going to stay with them until their next spoilers for Spring, and if that doesn’t make me happy, I will unsubscribe.  Jouer has wonderful makeup but it isn’t being reflected properly in Le Matchbox.  At All.  Too much shimmery stuff and whoever is curating these boxes needs to brush up on the warm vs cool tones and try to break out of the same ol’ colors every quarter.  It is boring.

I paid $45.00 for my box and received a value of $101.00 and $27.00 of that was taken up by a gift card (that has no free shipping) and a mini cosmetic bag (nice, but shouldn’t be part of the value of the box ~ it should be an extra).  I feel that this quarter’s box was way too light in value and product.

Did you get the Winter 2015 Jouer Le Matchbox?  What colors did you get?  Are you happy with the products?
