Unboxing Fall 2015 Jouer Le Matchbox!

This is my third box from the quarterly subscription by Jouer cosmetics, Le Matchbox.    I really enjoy Joeur cosmetics and after the Summer Box, which was nice, but felt like it was “0lder” products, instead of new releases, I was curious to see what would be in my Fall Box.

What is Jouer Le Matchbox

A quarterly beauty subscription box, tailored just for you. No more guessing which colors are right, Jouer delivers the perfect products right to your doorstep. Each selection is determined by responses to our quiz, providing you with an assortment of full size Jouer essentials most flattering for your coloring and suitable for your skin type. Each curated box is accompanied by a mini magazine providing product details and application tips. Jouer delivers the most advanced skincare benefits, effortlessly luxurious colors, in smart on-the-go packaging. Whether you’re an experienced makeup artist, a makeup addict or need an uncomplicated way to select the right formulas and shades for effortless beauty, Le Matchbox is for you.

Jouer walks you through a little quiz to help you determine your skin tone ~ cool or warm ~ and you can then subscribe for $45.00 per quarter (it automatically renews) or a one time $65.00 box.  You can select from cool, warm or let Jouer choose for you.     Interested?  You can subscribe here  Make sure you register FIRST before you order, however, as they do have a glitch in their system.   Also, I find that if you need customer service, it is better to call their toll-free number instead of using email.

I am warm toned, so my box is the warm toned version.  There is a cool tone version as well.  All swatches are at the end of the blog post.     The box always comes with a pamphlet explaining the colors, ingredients and makeup tips.

Jouer Tote Bag  I love the material and the size of this bag ~ very sturdy and practical. What I dislike is the saying on the bag ~ haha.  WTF?  Seriously, I don’t judge people by their eyebrows and never understood the obsession with making ones brows look so fake with brow products.   There were other nice sayings, like the happiest girls are the prettiest girls, which I would have liked better.  I hope this saying fades over time or maybe I will turn this bag inside out, as I am kinda embarrassed by that saying.   I do love the bag itself, just not the caption on it ~ this is, so far, a Jouer exclusive to Le Matchbox subscribers, as it isn’t sold at their site.

Long-Wear Eye Brightening Primer  At first I thought this was a concealer and thought this was going to be tough to match the skin color, as our profiles at Le Matchbox doesn’t include skin color.  However, this is a eye primer that also brightens and evens out the skin area, with its mineral pigments and it is also soothing, as it includes chamomile extracts.  This has a doe foot-type applicator and you turn the base to push the product up and out onto the applicator.   This only comes in a Neutral shade, but for applying eye shadow, it doesn’t matter ~ if you have a darker skin tone, just apply exactly where you will apply your shadow.  For me, I can apply this all over my lid as it does brighten the area without looking fake.  I really like this item and I believe this is a fairly new product from Jouer.  Full Size .07 oz  RV $24.00

Ingredients: Isododecane, Titanium Dioxide (c1 77890), Hydrogenated Coco=glycerides, Beeswax/cera Alba, Sodium Potassium Aluminum Silicate, Boron Nitride, Mica, Microcrystalline Wax / Cera Microcristallina, Quaternium-18 Bentonite, Maganese Violet (ci 77742), Iron Oxides )ci 777492), Propylene Carbonate, Silica, Talc, Tocopheryl Acetate, Iron Oxides (ci 77491), Chamomilla Recutita (matricaria) Flower Extract

Moisturizing Lip Gloss in Starfish This is the major dud of the box and I am glad it is just a mini.  I need to start my writing campaign with Jouer that warm tone doesn’t mean orange lip colors.   There are so many great warm tone berries, red, neutrals, plums and so much more out there.   This is Starfish, which is a shimmery sheer peach color, which really, another gripe ~ why is this very spring/summer like shade in a FALL BOX?  They have other shades that are more Fall appropriate, like Monsoon, which is a deep wine (I own this ~ it works for both warm and cool skintones), Mirage ~ a creamy berry pink, Oasis ~  creamy deep nude, Nude Glisten, Rose Glisten… well you get my drift.  Starfish is not only peach (yuck) but sheer and with shimmer.  So, a lot of harsh words for a mini lipgloss!! haha   Again, thankfully, a mini.   I just wish we would have received a shade appropriate fall color as I do love Jouer’s sheer lip glosses.   I cannot even be bothered to swatch it, as I already know it is sheer, peach and shimmery.   Mini 2.5 mL RV $11.00

Description: Irresistibly sheer shades loaded with Vitamin E, Shea Butter, and Jojoba Seed Oil to moisturize, soothe, nourish, rejuvenate and protect, keeping lips smooth and hydrated.

Kitten Liner in Black Yes!!  This was a spoiler for our box and this is actually a BRAND new item for Jouer.  I love liquid eyeliners and use them daily, so you can imagine how excited I am to see Jouer come out with one.  This has a great tip to it, it is thin and not some horrid felt tip, but almost like a twisted brush.  I can make thick lines or thin, dots, squiggles ~ very nice!  This is long wearing and only smudges if you rub really hard and even then, it is a slight smear, not a full blown smudge.  I hope that Jouer expands their color choices as I would love a brown Kitten Liner too.   This is not a “wet” liner, as it does go on a bit dry, so this is perfect for those who aren’t used to a liquid eyeliner.  I like wetter liners as I don’t like the tugging on my eyelids, but wetter liners require a bit of experience to handle.  This is a great choice for those new to liquid eyeliner pens.   Full Size .03 oz RV $28.00

Ingredients: Water/aqua/eau, Butylene Glycol, Styrene/acrylates/ammonium Methacrylate Copolymer, Peg-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Coco-glucoside, Citric Acid, Sodium Laureth-12 Sulfate, Aluminum Hydroxide, Phenoxyethanol, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Black 2 / Ci 77266 (nano)

Ready To Wear Warm Collection Palette  This is an exclusive to our Le Matchbox for Fall ~ I do not know if they plan to release this palette on their website.  I am really excited about this item ~ it has 3 face products and 4 eye shadows, and they are housed in a sturdy thick cardboard palette with a magnetic closure.  It also contains a small mirror as well.   The palette consists of

Perfect Tan Mineral Powder Bronzer This is described as a matte honey brown, which does sound just like our Summer Bronzer in Suntan.   It is actually a bit lighter than Suntan but it is in the same range.   I am a bit disappointed with Jouer giving us two bronzers two quarters in a row.

Peach Glow Mineral Powder Blush   This is described as a Shimmering Apricot in the makeup tips flyer for this palette and this is so similar to the blush that I received in my Spring box, only it was called Peach Bouquet.   Not cool, Jouer.   I am going to give them feedback on this, because this is just absurd that now I have received very similar two colors that I got in two boxes previously (and those are full sized!!)

Swatching the shades together with the Spring & Summer shades : 1 Peach Bouquet (spring box) ~ 2 Peach Glow ~ 3 Suntan (summer box)  ~ 4 Perfect Tan
So, the verdict is that the blush in this palette is more sparkly and a bit darker and Perfect Tan is very light compared to Suntan bronzer.  I will say this, I swatched the samples below heavily, so when I use a nice fluffy brush to apply, you can’t really tell the difference.

Camellia Highlighter:  This is a creamy pearl white highlighter, which will be good for your cheekbones,  eye brow bone, and even on your lips!  This is very sheer, but luminous and thankfully, not a duplicate product

Eye Shadows:  Lace ~ matte ivory, Sahara ~ matte chestnut brown , Cognac ~ shimmering chocolate brown, Fireside ~ deep sparkling brown.  These are all beautiful neutral shades and there is no fall out on them at all!  Lace is a great all over lid color, similar to Mac Brule.  Sahara a matte light cocoa powder color  and a great every day color.   Cognac is beautiful!  It as a lot of depth and is brown but has a golden punch to it.  Fireside is a blackened brown shade with just a hint of shimmer with some golden sparkles.  These are very pigmented and I love these shades.  They might be called something else on Jouer’s site but I only own a few powder shades from Jouer and none of them are these shades.

So, how do I feel about this palette?  Well, I think that the blush shade is totally inappropriate and a major mismatch with the palette. The eye shadows do not deserve an orange shade and Jouer should have put a reddish-brown matte blush in here.   Why matte?  Because they already included a shimmery highlighter, so it is just redundant.  The blush shade is too orange and springlike for Fall and these eye shadows.   I would have picked something similar to Make-Up Forever S814 Light Rosewood, a lovey reddish brown sheer, that is a satin, almost matte. This palette has a RV of $45.00

My Le Matchbox items

  1. Kitten Eyeliner
  2. Long-Wear Eye Brightening Primer
  3. Perfect Tan Mineral Powder Bronzer
  4. Camellia Highlighter
  5. Fireside Eye Shadow
  6. Cognac Eye Shadow
  7. Sahara Eye Shadow
  8. Lace Eye Shadow

All in all, I really like my Fall Jouer box ~ The Kitten eyeliner and eye primer are my favorites and I will use the palette as it is a handy compact of all the essential facial products, except foundation.  I love the eye shadows in this palette and those colors are on-point for the fall season.  I do have issues using facial products in a compact that has other colors, as my face brushes are too big for the palette, so I will use the bronzer as an additional eye shadow.  The blush, meh.  Not happy about this shade at all. Perhaps I will just foil it and use it as an highlighter for my eyes.  The lip gloss was so not Fall and really looked like a leftover.

My biggest complaint with Jouer is that they seem to think that warm-tone means peach and coral lip products and blushers.  For a makeup company, they seem to be lacking the appropriate knowledge to curate a warm skin tone box with colors outside of brown and orange.   I was really excited with the Spring box, because they gave us Warm’ers a darkened purple eye crayon stick, thinking that yes, Jouer gets it, but the last two boxes have proven that they do.not.know or they do.not.care ~ I will be giving them feedback on this because although I don’t mind an occasional peachy blushes, I don’t need a whole collection of them.  I wore the eye primer, kitten liner and eye shadows but my blush was the mentioned MUF Rosewood blush and I wore Burt’s Bees Redwood Forest lip crayon, a great brick (brownish red) shade that goes on sheer but can be built up for intensity.

I paid $45.00 for my box and received a value of $108.00, not including the tote, as there was no RV included on that item.  Despite my disappointment in the lip and blush shade, I do really love the other makeup items in this box and that they added a couple of new products with the liner and eye primer. Hopefully, Jouer will start adding other shades besides orange in the warm tone boxes.  Otherwise, I might have to switch to cool tone just to get something different, damnit.

Did you get the Fall 2015 Jouer Le Matchbox?  What colors did you get?  Are you happy with the products?
