Memebox Better Skin Box Unboxing!

I love makeup, I really do.  But I am very picky about my makeup shades, so Memebox is primarily skincare products for me (there are exceptions….).     They came out with a total Skin Care box a week ago, that sounded just perfect for me ~ whitening, acne control, moisturizing, sun care…Of course I purchased the Better Skin Care Mystery Box!

I have a whole section in my blog,  devoted to Memebox, so if you want to know more, check out the Memebox category.

Better Skin Box #skindeep

Our pursuit for better skin never ends. Even once we’ve found products that work we’re still looking for a new item to take us that extra step. That’s what led us to this box- among the goodies are items that will offer: sun protection, fight acne, lighten dark spots, skin repairing, soothe and moisturize.

Informational Card

Secret Key Honey Bee’s AC Control Foaming Cleanser   I have owned this cleanser in the past, as well as other items in this line, and I loved it.  My skin loved it.  It is not drying for my oily skin type at all, and it did clear up my skin, and I never had that “tight” feeling.    This contains natural bee venom, propolis, royal honey, rosemary and tea tree extracts, which all help with acne and sebum control as well as tightening pores.   I haven’t used this product over the winter, as I found it better for summertime use, so I was glad to see this in my box.   A few weeks ago, one of my readers asked about the pH level on this cleanser, so I am able to do that now.  I am shocked to find that this is registering between 9.5 and 10!!  WOWZA.   However, since this did work so well for me last year, when I was ignorant of its pH level, I will use this on my face.  Yes, shoot me, yell at me in the comments and call me a hypocrite (haha), but this cleanser was such a favorite of mine last year, that I purchased it a couple of times.   It did not dry my skin out, so, maybe diluting my cleanser with water and all of the toners, ampoules, essences and moisturizers I use, made this cleanser a good one for me.  However, you should know that it is very high and most cleansers that are this high, I would not use on my face.   I make an exception for this one.    For those concerned about pH levels, you can use this as a body wash too or use it to clean your makeup brushes.   Memebox did undervalue this product, as it is usually more than $7.50.  Full Size 150 mL Value $7.50

Ingredients:  water, myristic acid, stearic acid, potassium hydroxide, sodium laureth sulfate, TEA-cocoyl glutamate, lauramide DEA, glycerin, glyceryl stearate, PEG-100 stearate, glycol distearate, bee venom, butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, allantoin, glycine soja (soybean) oil, hydrogenated cottonseed oil, proplis extract, centella asiatica extract, portulaca oleracea extract, leontopodium alpinum flower/leaf extract, royal jelly extract, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) extract, melaleuca alternifolia  (tea tree) leaf extract, tocopheryl acetate, melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) leaf oil, carbomer, polyepsilon-lysine, disodium EDTA analysis

Holika Holika Aqua Fantasy Toner  I resisted purchasing this line as I am not in the market for a new toner, however, it is nice to have it in here, as I would not have gotten otherwise.   This toner is a gel-like toner, but it is not sticky or tacky.  I have to shake the bottle ~ which is so cool looking!!! ~ to get the product out onto my hand and then I apply it to my face.  I do not use a cotton pad ~ I normally don’t like them for these types of products (this isn’t cleansing water or an astringent toner) and also, since this is so gel-like, it doesn’t really lend well to a cotton pad.    This does have a slight scent to it, which I do not like (a bit fresh-floral) but it disappears quickly.   The Aqua Fantasy Toner is supposed calm reddened skin, but the 4th ingredient is alcohol, so if you have very sensitive skin, I would avoid this.     This is also a pore tightener, so I guess that is why there is alcohol in this product ~ I am finding that once you get into the pore tightener, oil control products, they will, for the most part, contain alcohol.  I have very oily skin, and since this is one of the first steps in my skincare regime, I will balance it out with products that do not have alcohol in them.    I am not a fan of products that contain this ingredient for the hell of it, but I think with oil and pore control products, there is no way of escaping this.

This also contains 20% of Icelandic glacier water ~ to deeply moisturize ~  and hot springs water ~ minerals that will also deeply moisturize ~  along with sunflower and camellia seed oil.  This toner has moisturizers, emulsifiers, astringents and antioxidant ingredients, so it does look like it would do what is reported to do ~ moisturize, while tightening pores.  I probably will try this out as a night-time toner as it might be too moisturizing for the daytime.   Full Size 150 mL Value $22.00

Description: A 4- free formula which means formulated without parabens, TEA, mineral oils and artificial dyes containing 20% Iceland Glacier & Hot Spring Water.  The Iceland Glacier Water provides deep moisture to the skin and removes waste leave the skin clean and clear, while the Hot Spring water provides an abundant amount of minerals for outstanding hydration.  This gel based toner delivers moisture deep beneath the skin layers to relieve, refresh and moisturize, stressed, tired skin.

Ingredients: Water, glacier water (binghasu), hot springs/spa water (Onsen-Sui), denatured alcohol, Glycereth-26,  glycerin, betaine, Polyglyceryl-10 Eicosanedioate/Tetradecanedioate Esters, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Portulaca Oleracea extract,  Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil,  Hydrogenated Camellia Oleifera Seed Oil, Imperata Cylindrica Root Extract, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Flower Extract, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, PEG-8, carbomer, arginine, xanthan gum, propylene glycol, menthol, Diethyl oxalate, Disodium EDTA, phenoxyethanol, Caprylhydroxamic Acid, Caprylyl Glycol, fragrance analysis

Missha All Around Safe Block Aqua Sun Gel SPF30/PA +++    Hmmm.  I knew we were going to get a sunscreen in this box based on the description, but I was hoping for something a bit more exciting that Missha.   Missha does make nice products, but I am Missha’d out right now ~ or a spray on sunscreen, which Missha does create.   This has something called Oriental Tea Newplex, which is supposed to be created from 7 oriental tea extracts, but I only see one tea in here, camellia sinensis (green tea).   I found out that the “tea” are actually plants that are herbal tea, not real tea, outside of the green tea item:   chrysanthemum, mugwort, mulberry, persimmon, pueraria (kudzu), cinnamon, along with green tea.  There is also another ingredient I wasn’t aware of ~ thanaka.   I was really curious about that, and that is a yellow-white paste that is made from ground up bark and is a very effective sunblock as well as cooling the skin ~ the wood used for thanaka in this sunscreen is apple wood (Limonia Acidissima).   You can read more here about Thanaka.   This also does contain rose extract  (Rosa Davurica).  I have never seen this particular rose species in my products before, so I will be brave and do a spot test on this.    Full Size 50mL Value $14.00

Description: All Around Safe Block Aqua Sun Gel SPF 30/PA++ is a lightweight and refreshing moisture sun gel. It absorbs instantly without stickiness and oiliness.  Contains Oriental Tea Newplex (7 oriental tea extracts) to protect skin from UV rays. Antozone-Rose protects the skin from damage and irritation caused by harmful environmental factors. Thanaka protects skin from the sun while soothing the skin. And Aqua Holic Complex includes extracts from Baobab Tree, Cactus, Adenium, and Ice Plant Water for moisturizing and soothing benefits.

Goodal Wash Up Keeping Youth Coconut Cream Pack   I have purchased this before when Memebox sold the 4 pack of wash off/sleeping packs on their site (the Fun Fun Travel Kit, which included the coconut as well as the Deep Clean Pore Glacial Clay Wash-Off, Brightening Sleep Pack and Moisture Sleep Pack)  and I do like this little coconut goodie quite a bit.   It does smell like coconut and it even has little coconut flakes (pulp) in it ~ a very creamy jelly mask pack.  This also contains mango extract, which is full of antioxidants and will help combat aging and also hyper-pigmentation.   My face also feels refreshed, as it has a cooling effect as well.   You can purchase this in a full size tub, which I will probably do soon, as I am reminded how much I like this coconut version as it really does hydrate my skin, without causing any breakouts.  Mini Size 10 mL Value $6.00

Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Coconut (Cocos Nucifera) Fruit Extract, Glyceryl Stearate, Bis-PEG-18 Methyl Ether Dimethyl Silane, Ceteareth-12, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Sodium Polyacrylate, Phenoxyethanol, Ceteareth-20, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Isononanoate, Cetyl Palmitate, Luffa Cylindrica Fruit, Xanthan Gum, Caprylyl Glycol, Fragrance (Parfum), Allantoin, Triethanolamine, Disodium EDTA, Butylene Glycol, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Candida Bombicola/Sucrose/Vegetable Acid Ester Ferment, Mango (Mangifera Indica) Fruit Extract analysis

Goodal Luminant Plus Whitening Essence I am really happy to see two Goodal products in this box.  Goodal is a very underrated product line (part of the Club Clio franchise)  and two of my favorite products are from Goodal ~ the Waterest line.  Goodal is known for having fermented seeds in their skin care line, and this product is no exception.  I am also happy to say that the alcohol in this product is WAYYY down the list of many ingredients!   This is a whitening essence.  This does have jasmine, but I am only allergic if it smells like jasmine.  Whitening does not mean that it will turn your skin white ~ it means that it will even out your skin tone, remove any hyper-pigmentation spots and add a glow to your skin!   This product is free of parabens and mineral oil and contains 7 green seed oils

  1. Sunflower Seed Oil:  Vitality
  2. Jojoba Oil:  Hydration
  3. Camellia Oil: Retains moisture
  4. Green Tea Seed Oil: Brightens
  5. Argan Oil:  Skin Elasticity
  6. Olive Oil: Calms and Soothes
  7. Macadamia Oil: Nourishes

This is a lightweight creamy white essence with a fermented scent, but I happen to like that scent 🙂 This is very rich, so this will be used at night time.  Full Size 30 mL Value $45.00

Better Skin Box is a good box ~ despite the pH level in the cleanser and the alcohol in the toner, I think the other items make up for that, if you cannot use those items.   If you are already looking for pore tightening products, however, you most likely have alcohol way up there in one or more of your skincare products.   I think the winner of the box are the two Goodal products ~ the coconut mask pack is fun and I love the scent of it, and the Whitener product is part of their famous 7 seeds complex oil line, which is wonderfully moisturizing and hydrating.   I paid $40.00 which included shipping and handling and I received a MemeValue of $94.50.
