Everyday is a Sunscreen Day! Many thanks to Credithink for sending me five sunscreens by K-Beauty brand make p:rem.  I have reviewed several products by make p:rem on my Instagram account and will be doing a full roundup review on this brand in a few weeks.   

Skin type/concerns:  Oily, aging, blemish prone, pores, hyper-pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles.

Whenever I do a sunscreen review, I always like to include this in my blog post.  It may seem repetitive if you are familiar with my blog posts, but not everyone reads every review or clicks on resources to find out what I am referring to.  If you already know this information, skip over to read  my comparisons of make p:rem UV Defense Me sunscreens.

We all know what SPF rating means, but what does PA stand for?   I am very familiar with SPF (sun protection factor) and that it ranks based on protection from UVB :: ultraviolet B (shortwave) rays.  But the PA rating is something newish to me and a lot of Western readers, and I really notice it on Asian sunscreens, not so much American brands.    PA is the amount of protection the sunscreen offers from UVA :: ultraviolet A (long-wave) rays.  PA ranks with + signs and the higher the + signs, the more protection you will get from UVA rays.

UVB is what causes sunburns and reddened skin and has direct links to cancer.  UVA is what causes us to tan, and age ~ wrinkles and deep lines are caused by UVA exposure.  A really fantastic article about ultraviolet rays and how they affect our skin can be found here at the Skin Cancer website  and I highly recommend reading it.   One thing I have learned is that a broad spectrum sunscreen is the proper choice as it will help deflect the UV rays and not allow them to penetrate into your skin layers.  All of the make p:rem UV Defense Me sunscreens are rated SPF 50+ PA++++

• Notes: Despite looking like a cream-gel out of the pump, this is the most lightweight of the five sunscreens. No white cast for me. Cooling, moisturizing, not greasy or sticky.  I love this one so much that I will write a review on it on my IG feed and repost here.

• Function: Anti-pollution care, trouble skin care, natural tone up

• UVA/UVB Filters: Titanium Dioxide, Calamine: contains Zinc Oxide
• Scent: Faint natural scent
• Skin Type: Oily, Oily-Combo, Blemish Prone
• Microparticle Dust Protection: Yes, patented FILMEX reduces 29.7% of fine dust adhesion
• Size: 150 mL
• Notes: I have used this one before. It’s a favorite of mine. most fluid but not the most lightweight, will give skin a bit of a brightening effect

Original IG Review

You know I LOVE calamine in my products. This sunscreen is rated SPF 50+ PA++++ and is a non-nano mineral sunscreen for your face and body, which is why it is so HUGE at 150 mL.⁣

What makes me very happy with this sunscreen is the addition of 20,000 ppm of calamine ~ it is a very soothing ingredient and will help reduce swelling and itchiness. It is also an antiseptic, which will help prevent infections, disinfect and it is an astringent as well. Calamine can cause brightening of the skin tone as it is basically zinc oxide, which helps fade blemishes, hyper-pigmentation and give an overall brightening effect on your face. In fact, many people use calamine lotion to help fade and prevent blemishes, control oil and also as a moisturizer. ⁣

This also has a ton of antioxidant botanical ingredients with apple, vanilla, astringent birch juice, red algae, water lily and green tea, along with soothing, healing centella-derived madecassoside, moisturizing panthenol, ecotin, sunflower seed oil and bitter almond seed oil

UV Filters: This is a mineral, not a physical sunscreen and by first glance, it looks like there is only one filter: titanium dioxide (UVA/UVB). However, calamine contains zinc oxide, ferric oxide, phenol and calcium hydroxide ~ so you get the added filter of zinc oxide for UVA/UVB filters. ⁣

This is a lightly pink-hued lightweight lotion, which comes from the calamine. I can smell a very faint natural scent to it, but that must come from the ingredients, as there is no added perfumes to this product. Due to the physical mineral ingredients, this does go on with a pinkish-white cast, but as I tap it into my skin, it absorbs cleanly without any noticeable casting. My skin does look brighter as calamine does have tone-up properties, but it doesn’t look WHITE or fake. I was initially alarmed as my skin looked SO dewy and this sunscreen is marked for oily and sensitive skin types.

However, after about a minute, once the sunscreen was absorbed, my face was not shiny but had a nice healthy glow and satin finish. ⁣ This isn’t water or sweat-proof, but I feel this is a great sunscreen for normal daily use and if you have rashes, blemishes or irritated skin that could benefit from the calamine ingredient and protect you from the sun! I am VERY happy with this pink sunscreen in the huge bottle!! I totally recommend this one if you have oily skin, sensitive skin and even for kids.

Final Thoughts

Even though some of these sunscreens won’t go NEAR my face as they are too rich for my skin type, I really think these are all fantastic sunscreens with a SPF50+ PA++++ rating.  They aren’t water or sweat proof, so if you are looking for a sport sunscreen, these are not it.  However, these sunscreens are for normal daily use and they work great!  For my oily skin type, my top favorites are the UV Defense Me Blue Ray Sun Gel and UV Defense Me Calamine Sun Milk.
