Skin18 is an Asian Beauty shop that not only carries Korean name brands, but also more inexpensive brands, many of which are offered as free products to their customers, even if you aren’t purchasing anything.  You just pay shipping and handling. Skin18 also works with Beauty Bloggers and I received another Bloggers Package from them consisting of 6 masks from their lesser known and inexpensive brands. I am going to split this up into 3 reviews:  Luke masks, Wash Off Masks (review here) and Repairing & Soothing Sheet Masks (review here).  This digest will focus on 3 different types of masks from Luke.

I originally reviewed all of these items at my IG account.  I first used the facial sheet mask and eye patches together.

Luke Vitamin Hydrogel Eye Patch (Plumping)  Let’s get these out of the way. These are vitamin eye patches because they do contain some key vitamin or vitamin derived ingredients

  • Vitamin E/tocopheryl acetate (1000ppm) helps decrease facial lines and the depth of facial wrinkles and is also a major source of antioxidants, which help combat free radicals and reverse the damage caused by them.
  • Vitamin A/retinyl palmitate (300ppm) promotes healthy skin cell rejuvenation, repairing scar and sun damaged skin.
  • Vitamin C/ascorbyl palmitate (10ppm)   antioxidant protection from damaging free radicals, lightens hyper-pigmentation, firmer skin by encouraging collagen production
  • Vitamin B5/panthenol (2000ppm) is a natural humectant, which retains moisture and hydrates the skin. It also is a good lubricant on the skin, making skin look soft and smooth. It is also an anti-inflammatory
  • Vitamin B3/niacinamide (10ppm) is a powerful antioxidant that acts as an anti-inflammatory, improves your skin elasticity, enhance the skin barrier function and also it helps to even out skin tone and reduce post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation

I don’t have the full ingredients list on these, as it isn’t marked on the package.

These eye patches have a fabric backing with some gel that you stick to your eye. I really dislike this type of eye patch ~ they make my skin itch and also they PULL my delicate eye skin when I remove them. A big no, no. There is a lot of coverage with these eye gels and I did leave these one longer than the facial mask ~ about 50 minutes ~ to see if the gel would be absorbed. Alas, just like the last Luke Hydrogel eye patch I used, it didn’t really absorb into my skin. ~ there still was a lot of the sticky gel product left on the pad. My skin was soft to touch, but nothing else.  RV $1.80

Luke Hyaluron Essence Mask This is an intense moisturizing mask due to some very hydrating, non greasy ingredients

  • Sodium Hyaluronate (105mg) is an intensive moisturizing ingredient which bonds water to keep skin hydrated. It is a natural substance found in the human body and it made up of amino and uronic acids, and helps retain 100 to 1,000 times its own water weight in our skin cells.
  • Aloe Vera soothes and heals sun burns, tones skin, shrinks pores, and is a rich source of silicon to help the skin regenerate
  • Cucumber helps to regulate the water and oil level of the skin to prevent appearance of blemishes.
  • Glycerin moisturizes and hydrates the skin, leaving your face feeling smooth and soft.

These are all very hydrating to your skin, with antioxidants and vitamins. This also has willow bark extract to act as a soothing astringent and chamomile as a soothing and healing ingredient. The scent is very light, so I don’t mind it too much ~ it is a bit floral, but disappears quickly. The mask is typical for Korean masks ~ it isn’t thin like Taiwanese masks, however this mask is pretty wet with essence, so it adheres nicely ~ but make no mistake, it is not a second skin!

The fit is pretty good as well, with only the tip of my nose and a bit of the side of my nose not covered. After 40 minutes, I removed the mask, which was still damp and my skin was still pretty wet and moist with essence. It took about 5 to 10 minutes to dry down completely, but my face did feel soft and smooth and very hydrated, with a nice cooling feeling. Unlike the eye gels, I really liked this mask from Luke! Have you tried any of these masks yet from Luke?  RV $1.65

Luke Mugwort Nose Pore Strip Sooo, I am not a huge fan of nose strips. You moisten them and slap them on your nose, wait for it to dry and then peel them off your nose. For many people, this is a fine thing. For me, my nose skin, despite being oily, is delicate and I have ripped the skin off my nose before. So, yeah, not a huge fan of them.  I do love the new nose strips from packAGE as those are wet ones and are wonderful. However, I have tons of these strips just hanging around and what to do with them?

Before I get into that, this nose pore strip will clean out your pores, removing gunk and stuff, remove blackheads and tighten pores.  It has

  • Vitamin E helps soothe your skin, helping reduce inflammation and redness.
  • Aloe Vera is another soothing ingredient ~ it treats inflammation, helps speed up skin healing and also has a plethora of antioxidants .
  • Witch Hazel (hamamelis virginiana) has  antibacterial and antiseptic qualities which helps clear up acne and it removes excess oil from skin. It also helps shrinks blood vessels, which tightens our skin. Witch Hazel can speed up healing and is a powerful anti-inflammatory, which also helps soothe skin. Finally, Witch Hazel refreshes and rejuvenates skin, refines the pores and seal in moisture.
  • Mugwort (artemisia vulgaris) contains a high concentration of vitamin E and has antibacterial and anti fungal properties.   It will help clear up blemishes.

Again, I don’t have a full list of ingredients as there isn’t any list on the package to be found.  You shouldn’t use this version if you sensitive or allergic to ragweed, sage, honey and/or latex.  The nose strip is a light blue in shade and one side is “cloth like” where the other side has been coated with the ingredient solution and is shiny.  This has a very earthy, herbal scent, very warm.  Some folks might find it offensive, but I like it.

To use, just dampen your nose and stick this on your wet, clean nose.  Add more water to the strip and mold it onto your nose for a tight, close fit.  Wait until the nose strip is completely dry and then peel off.  Now, I don’t like doing that because I will peel off skin on my nose, so I have found a gentler alternative.

I followed the initial instructions ~  moisten, let dry completely. Then instead of peeling it off, I took my Burt’s Bees Garden Tomato Toner, made especially for oily skin, and soaked a cotton pad with it and placed that over the nose strip, re-wetting it. I was then able to remove it without peeling off my skin. This did clean my pores a bit and it did reduce oil ~ you can see below that part of the backing of the strip came off on my nose, where I just used the toner to remove.  I also found that I did unclog one pore (gross, but I did take a picture of it! haha)  Any astringent toner will do, I just had the Burt’s Bees on hand.

I am sure if I had used it the way they intended, I would have ripped out more gunk in my pores, but I also know I would have pulled some skin off too. If you don’t mind a more gentle way of cleaning your pores and reducing oil, try it this way, especially if you are like me and have a ton of these nose strips hanging around as they seem to be in EVERY package I get from Korean shops!!  This nose strip is no better and no worse that others.  I still like pacKAGE soft pore strips much better.   RV is 65 cents and you can either purchase it directly (click here) or use it as a freebie item in your order (click here)

Final Thoughts

I only am impressed by the facial sheet mask from Luke ~ I did like it quite a bit and I am interested in other facial sheet masks in their lineup ~ they have a collagen (not interested), snail, green tea and aloe. I think I have the aloe from a MaskGenie…will have to look!  The eye masks were a failure, as I hate the cloth backing ones ~ I like gel eye patches better ~ cloth ones makes the skin under my eyes itch and pinch ~ even expensive ones like Skyn Iceland hurt my skin.  Nose strips ~ this is a personal preference ~ I just don’t care for them that much as I would rather use a wash off mask to clean my pores.  But since I have so many of them, using a toner to re-soften the strip to help gently remove it really helps prevent my skin from being torn off.
