Bitter Green Clay Soothing Mask   This is described as a soothing and hydrating clay mask, which will help absorb excess oil and calm irritation due to inflammation.   All of the products in the Bitter Green line contain a Bitter Green-5 complex, which contains the following extracts: wheat grass, kale, celery, cabbage and broccoli.  All of these ingredients will work together to help remove toxins, deep clean and purify your skin.

This mask also contains 43,500 mg of kaolin to help remove impurities such as dirt and excess oil, honey to act as an antiseptic and anti-bacterial, while moisturizing, witch hazel and rosemary for astringent, but soothing properties, while lavender oil will help speed up wound healing.  This has luffa powder, which contains an active enzyme that removes dirt and oil from your skin, while hydrating it naturally.  You can also see the bits of luffa in the light green clay mask.   It is hypoallergenic and free of artificial fragrance and dyes, while being gentle.  This mask has a slight, faint bitter odor to it.

This mask applies easily, as it is smooth and creamy ~ the luffa bits are not hard, but soft.  In fact, the texture is very bouncy and soft ~ like applying a custard on your face.  It has a thinnish texture, so you can apply a thin layer or a thicker layer quite easily.

When it dries down, there is a cooling sensation on my skin.   The dried mask does flake a bit, but doesn’t tighten on my skin in a taunt, uncomfortable way at all.   I rinsed off after it dried and the texture of my face felt smooth and soft, and it really helped reduce the redness and swelling of existing blemishes and my pores looked very clean.  I like to use this mask as a spot treatment as well.  If I am hanging out at home for several hours, I will dab on this mask on my blemishes or areas where I think some zits are thinking of coming out and leave it on.  After several hours, that area either has reduced and dried out my current blemishes or helped soak up the oil and dirt in that area to prevent new blemishes. Bitter Green Toner & Mask   I have not opened this up yet, so this will just be a description of the toner.  This is an hypoallergenic anti-dust and detox toner that will help hydrate and protects your skin from external stress and pollution.  You can also use this toner as a “mask”, as it comes with these thin paper sheets.  You soak the toner in the sheets and apply to different areas on your face to detox and purify.

 

Triticum Vulgare (wheat) is a powerful anti-aging ingredients as they contain adntioxidant compounds. Beauty In A Food Mask Sheet in Ginseng  Panax Ginseng is used in anti-aging skin care products, as it is can stimulate the skin and activate the blood flow, which will increase toning and production of new skin cells. It also has anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, due to natural carbohydrate called saponin, and will help reverse damage caused by free radicals, such as hyper-pigmentation and also combat free radicals to prevent new skin damage of fine lines and wrinkles. Ginseng detoxes your skin and leaves it radiant and glowing. Applied topically, it helps stimulate collagen production to promote cellular renewal. Its herbal properties and usage dates back over 5,000 years.  This mask contains 90 mg of ginseng extract as well as beta glucan, which helps stimulate the production of collagen, speeds up wound healing, soothes and calms skin due to its anti-irritant and strong anti-inflammatory properties, moisturizes, locks in natural moisture, anti-aging and anti-wrinkle due to its anti-oxidant properties and also helps repair your moisture barrier.  I wasn’t sure how I was going to like this mask, but wow. 

First of all, this mask smells just like ginseng  ~ very strong scent as well.  The cotton mask is a thicker weight, but that is normal for Korean masks ~ Taiwanese masks are usually the thinnest, whereas Japanese masks are usually the thickest.   The fit is really decent ~ my only complaint is that I wish I had a bit more coverage on my forehead and the sides of my cheeks. This has a cooling effect on my skin while I was wearing it.  I removed it after 30 minutes, as it did dry down quickly and my skin was… visibly brighter (and I do mean visibly), moisturized and hydrated without feeling any tacky residue.  I really like this mask a lot ~ from the scent to the results, I think it is a winner!  5 pack RV $10.00

Real Tea Gel Mask in Chamomile  I normally dislike gel masks especially 2 piece ones, but this description made me want to try it ~ tea + chamomile ~ I’m in!  Chamomile is an anti-aging herb which has antioxidant, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It helps to relieve skin issues and irritations because it soothes and lessens swelling and redness, while healing skin and stimulating cellular renewal.  Green Tea is full of powerful anti-oxidants, due to its high concentration of polyphenols, green tea helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Niacinamide (vitamin B3) is also a powerful antioxidant that acts as an anti-inflammatory, improves your skin elasticity, enhance the skin barrier function and also it helps to even out skin tone and reduce post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation.  

When I opened up the mask package, I was so happy to see little bits of chamomile flowers in the mask!   The gel is alight  tan shade, which does promote the notion of a “tea” mask.  However, this didn’t smell much like chamomile ~ it was so faint that I wonder if I fooled myself into THINKING there was a chamomile scent. 

It is a two piece gel mask and man, this was an awkward mask. My finger nails are not long or sharp, but I always seems to “cut” into the gel when I am trying to apply it to my face.  The fit was awful for my face ~ this mask was too big in some parts, and too small in others.  My nose should have been an inch longer!!  As with all 2 piece hydrogels, the lower half just was sliding off my face no matter what I did.   There was no smooth fit ~ it bunched up in certain areas, making this an ill fitting mask for my face.  It did have a nice cooling effect on my face while I was wearing it. 

When I finally removed it 45 minutes later, the gel was pretty much absorbed into my skin.   My face did feel moisturized, but my pores seemed to soak in that essence quite a bit and therefore, they looked larger.  I did not see any benefits to this mask other than the moisturization ~ but the cons of having my pores look bigger outweighs that one benefit.  I think these would make great eye gels and that is what I will do with the Lavender version ~ I will see how I can cut that up into eye gels and store them.   RV $7.00

Real Tea Gel Mask  in Lavender I haven’t used this yet, but it will be cut up into eye gels.  Seriously, I hate the fit of this mask so much.   I wonder if this actually smells like lavender and based on the package, could the mask color be lavender too?  From Skinfood: Lavender is excellent for sterilization, antiseptic, and relaxing purposes. The mask also contains peppermint, chamomile, and rosemary leaves.  Lavender has amazing wound healing proprieties due to its antibacterial, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory compounds. It is also is a soothing and invigorating ingredient as well.  Peppermint has anti-bacterial properties, cleanses and closes pores, has salicylic acid. Rosemary has anti-septic properties, supports collagen growths and has anti-oxidant properties that will combat free radicals .  This also contains lactobacillus ferment, which is highly moisturizing and also has antibacterial properties.  RV $7.00

Final Thoughts

I love the Bitter Greens clay mask and will probably start using my toner later on when winter is over.  I find that using the mask as a spot treatment is a great idea for my stubborn blemishes ~ I am always looking for different ways to combat blemishes as I like having more options.   The Ginseng mask is amazing and I am now looking at the other flavors in the Beauty in a Food Mask line ~ they have aloe, propolis & bee venom (I think I have this one hanging around!), strawberry and rice.  I am not enamored by the Tea Gel mask line at all, but I think these gels are for dry skin or those with no pore issues. 

Store Thoughts: Skinfood USA has extra super fast shipping ~ from the time I ordered my items to the time I received it, it was 2 business days!  I love that their online shop lists ingredients on their products before you purchase it ~ the ingredient list is printed in English on the package, but if you don’t know the listing before you purchase, that doesn’t help.   They are generous with their freebies ~ I received $10.00 in free products, plus free shipping with an order over $50.00. Their free items do change, as they had a Yuja trial sampler earlier this year.  Skinfood USA is also doing sales ~ the Bitter Green promo is over, but they are currently running sales on their Rice Brightening line
