This is part 2 of my mask digest roundup of facial sheet masks that I have tried that are for oily, blemish prone and/or pore minimizing skin concerns. These reviews were originally blogged at my IG account. I use a lot of masks that target oily skin concerns and since Part 1 got too big, I decided to start a Part 2.
Innisfree Second Skin Mask ~ Trouble (Korea) I am not a huge fan of hydrogels and the last hydrogel I used from Innisfree, I loathed. I wasn’t aware that the Second Skin series were also hydrogels, otherwise, I would not have purchased a set of them. That said, I am SO happy I did as I love these! Unlike the other hydrogel’s (which were actually called hydro gel in the mask name), these are a treat. This is the trouble mask (anti-trouble) and it comes sandwiched between two mesh pieces. I removed the first mesh and placed the mask on my face and was afraid that when I pulled the 2nd mesh off, that it would pull the gel off my face. Nope! The one-piece hydro-gel stayed on my face ~ it is super thin and really feels cool ~ like jelly on your face. Lots of essence with this hydrogel too, which I placed over the mask. The fit is excellent, it covers my face great. The scent was a bit like lavender (which this mask does not have) ..but very light and pleasant. The tip of the nose area and the strip between my nose & mouth dried out first, so I just gently pulled it away from my skin, as the rest of the mask was still quite “jelly”. The mask sheet is made from fermented soybeans, btw! No wonder I love this mask 🙂 This has propolis, which helps with oily/blemish prone skin, citric and lactic acid to help brighten and exfoliate your skin. After 30 minutes, I removed this mask (it was still a bit jelly) and my face looked brighter, clearer and my pores were smaller. I LOVE this series. I hope that Innisfree doesn’t discontinue it. They have a BAD habit of discontinuing things that I fall in love with! I did purchase some of the other types in this series, so I will be reviewing those as well.

Beauty Mate Anti-Blemish Repairing Mask (Taiwan) 🎭🎭 Another mask from my MaskGenie subscription ~ I have been hoarding this and finally broke down and used it tonight. This is another mask in my ongoing series of anti-trouble, oily skin, pore care reviews. This is not only a mask for blemish prone skin but it helps replenish moisture and regulate the oil balance in your skin. Sebacic Acid is a pH buffer, so this is marketed as being not irritating to your skin. This mask has a thick essence, not quite gel-like, but it isn’t watery. There is a scent of a bitter, sharp ingredient, but it disappears quickly. I love the fit of this mask (and yes, I have a bit of an attitude in my selfie there!) and I kept this mask on for 35 minutes. The essence completely absorbed into my skin, leaving my skin matte and not oily. The redness in my skin was reduced and I love that my face is still matte after an hour! This mask is sold at Sasa.com and I will have to pick up a box the next time I haul there. I really like it a lot, as it works great in reducing oil, but not drying out my skin.

Skinfactory Volcanic Ash Black 3D Mask (S.Korea) Okay, I feel like I need to put some horns on my head in that selfie!! This mask always makes me look demonic ~ something about the 3D effect, it is a bit creepy. Skinfactory’s masks contain 30mL of essence, so their masks are always very drenched with essence. This is a scentless mask and it has 3D darts down the center of the sheet and the chin area actually tucks under the chin. This contains not only volcanic ash to absorb excess oil, but bifida ferment to help hydrate, salicylic acid to exfoliate dead skin cells and remove them, houttuynia cordata and witch hazel to soothe and reduce swelling and redness. I could keep this one on for 40 minutes, and it was still damp!! I just patted in any excess essence and my face felt really clean and refreshed and not oily.

Tonymoly I’m Real Tea Tree Skin Soothing Mask (Korea) I saw my expression in the photo and thought of Evil Willow on Buffy with her “Bored now” comment ~ haha. Anyway, this is my morning facial mask as I love to use these more astringent type masks in the AM. After I shower, I sometimes put on a mask and then do stuff for 20 minutes (like iron clothes, blow dry my hair, change the kitty litter box ;)) and then remove. I am normally not a huge Tonymoly fan ~ I like some of their products, like facial scrubs ~ and I do like their I’m Real masks. They aren’t for everyone, but I find them to be a good, inexpensive sheet mask and they have many different types (I love their Lemon brightening mask too). This mask sheet is soft, soaked with essence and it does smell a bit like Tea Tree. After leaving on for 20 minutes, I removed and patted in any extra essence as it is a bit sticky. Very refreshing and soothing ~ I love tea tree masks and this one is one of my favorites! Two thumbs up

My Beauty Diary Apple Polyphenol Mask (Taiwan) No selfie with this mask! I figure you are all tired of looking at my face right about now 🙂 Apples are a vitamin-rich, anti-aging ingredient that contains antioxidants, promote cell health, moisturizes and helps heal sun-damaged skin while aloe vera is a powerful moisturizer that doesn’t leave your skin feeling oily or greasy. It soothes, treats inflammation, helps speed up skin healing and also has a plethora of antioxidants ~ beta-carotene, Vitamin C and Vitamin E, which help improve your skin’s firmness and keeps your skin moist and hydrated. It also contains over 75 different nutritious ingredients, including minerals, enzymes, amino acids, salicylic acid and much more. I happen to like Sister Diary’s Apple mask much better than MBD, but MBD is more readily available stateside than Sister Diary. This mask is great for oily and normal skin types ~ it does help with oily control, reduce redness but at the same time, it does moisturize nicely. The mask fit is really good and has cuts in the chin area, so you can adjust that mask to fit around your chin ~ not many masks do that! The mask is thin, but not too thin ~ it is dripping with an apple cider scented essence that I really love! I can leave this mask on for over 40 minutes, that is how wet it is. After removing, my face does feel sticky and a bit tacky to touch, but the essence will absorb into my skin within 10 minutes. I do not see any pore tightening, but my face does feel like the oil has been controlled, but well hydrated and soothed.

Leaders Insolution TeaTree Relaxing Renewal Mask (Korea) First up, an explanation on why my selfies look yellowish all the time. It is the lighting in the bathroom!! I don’t have decent lighting in my apartment ~ I have a gazillion lamps (tabletop, standing) as my apartment does not have lights other than in the hallway, bathroom, kitchen and entry way (don’t ask me why!!) So, unless I want to hang out on my balcony with my masks and scare my neighbors to get decent lighting, I am forced into a small bathroom with really crappy lighting for picture taking. So, I do try to even out the color so I don’t look so green-yellow, but some days, it is a losing battle. Anyway, back to the mask ~ this is another Leaders mask, made with tea tree oil to help control oil and prevent infections, witch hazel water (0.1%) to help soothe and calm your skin, while acting as a gentle astringent. It also has sugar maple extracts, which is a natural source of AHA and helps exfoliate dead skin cells and unclog pores, leaving behind radiant skin. This mask has a lot of essence in it and it does have a slight scent to it, nothing strong. It is very cool on my skin which felt good this morning, as my face is feeling puffy today! I also have eye gels on in here, as when I woke up this morning, not only was my face puffy, my eyes were also so puffy ~ it is allergy season!! I left this on for 40 minutes and after removing, my face was really hydrated ~ this is a wet mask and it leaves behind a bit of tacky feeling, but nothing horrible, as it absorbs quickly. My face felt very smooth and refreshed, but this is not a mask that will make your face look matte if you have oily skin ~ my face was very dewy looking
Description: This soothing tea tree sheet mask is infused with organic leaf extracts (birch, hazelnut and olive) that helps control oily, irritated skin and reduces the appearance of unbalanced skin. Its natural extracts repairs damage on the skin and helps exfoliate, purify and soften the complexion giving the skin a radiant glow.
Ingredients: Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Water (0.1%), Water, Methylpropanediol, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Dipropylene Glycol, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Acer saccharum (Sugar Maple) Extract, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Centella Asiatica Extract, Betaine, Xanthan Gum, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract, Pinus Densiflora Leaf Extract, Propanediol, Polysorbate 60, Sorbitan Isostearate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Artemisia Capillaris Flower Extract, Ecklonia Cava Extract, Houttuynia Cordata Extract, Ledum Palustre Extract,Saururus Chinensis Extract, Achillea Millefolium Extract, Arnica Montana Flower Extract, Artemisia Absinthium Extract, Gentiana Lutea Root Extract, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5, Betula Alba Bud Extract, Corylus Avellana (Hazel) Bud Extract, Juglans Regia (Walnut) Leaf Extract, Olea Europaea (Olive) Bud Extract cosDNA.com analysis
Prelab Skin Energy Mask – Soothing Energy (Korea) Prelab is a new brand that Memebox is currently selling at their online shop – they have a BOGO sale going on currently with these masks, so I did pick up all four types. This is the soothing mask, which contains aloe and tea tree extracts which are good ingredients for moisturizing, soothing and reducing inflammation. Tea Tree Extract is known for its topical antiseptic and anti-fungal properties and help target and treat blemish-prone skin. It also reduces oil and sebum production on your skin, while not disrupting the moisture level. It also contains propolis ~ this is a natural antibiotic (antibacterial and anti-fungal) that is produced by honey bees and it a powerful natural anti-oxidant, because it contains over 50 different flavonoids. It also is an emollient, so it is not only a good blemish and anti-aging treatment, it also moisturizes your skin as well. The mask container is a bit strange ~ it is a hard plastic “case” and to open, you peel off the back label, exposing the mask, which is soaked with a very thick essence.
The essence smells like Innisfree Green Tea Serum, which is a green tea floral scent, with no trace of tea tree or aloe scents. The mask itself is made from botanical fibers and it is super soft and due to the essence, it is gelatinous. The mask fit is pretty good and I left this on for 40 minutes and it was still pretty wet when I removed it. My face was very moist and hydrated ~ this is not a mask, imho, that is an oil control mask ~ my face was dewy and not matte. However, due to the soothing and antibacterial properties in this mask, I would recommend it to those who have drier skin that is blemish prone and for oily skin types like myself, it is a good hydrating mask to use in the evening. Just don’t expect oil control. I just don’t like the packaging as I think that is really wasteful.
Description: Experience intensive skin care with this unique mask sheet fully immersed in a rich ampoule serum to help restore your skin’s healthy condition. What’s special about this face mask is that the sheet itself is made from 100% natural fiber derived from botanical plants. This makes it highly absorbent and very gentle to the skin. Skin Energy Mask in Soothing contains premium propolis extract, tea tree oil, aloe vera and deep sea water which work in complete synergy to help calm and soothe aggravated skin. Due to harsh environmental effects or too much heat exposure, the skin may develop redness and irritation which makes this ampoule mask a perfect treatment for skin stress relief.
Ingredients: water, methylpropanedoil, glycerin, butylene glycol, melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) leaf extract, aloe barbadensis leaf extract, propolis extract, sea water, trehalose, sodium hyaluronate, allantoin, panthenol, PEG-60 hydrogenated castor oil, ammonium acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP copolymer, xanthan gum, tromethamine, carbomer, disodium EDTA, ethylhexylglycerin, chlorphenesin, phenoxyethanol, etylhexanediol, 1,2-hexanediol, fragrance cosDNA.com analysis

My Scheming Skin Clarifying Astringent Mask (Taiwan) I love My Scheming masks ~ I still haven’t found a Taiwanese mask I haven’t loved!! haha This mask is from their silk mask collection and is made from fine silk. They aren’t kidding when they say this mask is so thin it looks invisible on the face and it holds a lot of essence. In fact, this mask was so wet that the essence ran into my eyes ~ that is why I am winking at you in my selfie ~ I am not flirtin’ with ya, I just have liquid in my eyes! haha This has a medical scent to it, it is light and goes away quickly. This does have witch hazel, which is a soothing ingredient that also acts as an astringent and gluconic acid (sugar derived AHA) is used to control oil production and will help remove excess oil from your skin. Also, this contains the highly hydrating sodium hyaluronate which will make your skin very moist and Bacillus ferment is an enzyme exfoliant with a mild pH, which will help remove dead skin cells and other debris on your skin. As the mask dries, the thin mask puffs up a bit and becomes thicker and turns white ~ it is a good sign to remove it when you see the mask double in its thickness and turn from transparent to white. My skin is a bit sticky after removing the mask, but my pores look tighter. Due to the sticky feeling, this is a night time mask ~ this is a very moisturizing mask, imho, and if you are looking for a matte finish to your face, this mask will not provide that (if you have oily skin to begin with). My face is dewy, but not oily, after use of this mask
Description: The mask contains a few skin recuperating ingredients to purify pores, help balance sebum secretion and condition skin metabolism to restore glow and vitality to skin. Contains hyaluronic acid to hydrate skin. Notice smoother and clearer skin complexions after application.
Ingredients: Water, Acrylates/C-10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Propylene Glycol, Dithiaoctanediol, Gluconic Acid, Sodium Hyaluronate, Bacillus Ferment, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Butylene Glycol, Hydroxyethyl Chitosan, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Bark/Leaf/Twig Extract, Tocopherol Acetate, Sclerotium Gum, Dipotassium Glycyrrhetinate, Hydrolyzed Silk, Gentiana Lutea Root Extract, Xanthan Gum, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Paraffinum Liqidum/Sodium Polyacrylate, Ginkgo Biloba leaf Extract, Hydroxyethyl Urea, Glycerin, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Methylisothiazolinone, Fragrance cosDNA.com analysis
Sewame Spotless and Trace-Free Anti-Acne Repairing Essence Mask (Hong Kong ???) I received this mask in my latest MaskGenie and I had looked everywhere for an ingredients list on this mask. All I got was just the key ingredients. The key ingredients in this mask are mangosteen, asparagus, rosehip oil, bitter gourd/melon/balsam pear. I am not clear where this mask is from, as it doesn’t say on the mask and the country of origin isn’t mentioned at online stores ~ It seems to be popular in Hong Kong. This mask is reported to help with dark pigmentation and is an anti-blemish mask as well. Anyway, I decided to use this mask after the Peter Thomas Roth Irish Moor Mud Purifying wash off mask, as I needed a soothing mask!! This mask has a nice essence ~ it isn’t too thick, but it isn’t watery, but a lightweight gel. It doesn’t have much of a scent and the mask is a cotton mask that is textured! It also has “ear” hooks and believe it or not, this is a surprising comfortable mask to wear even with the ear hooks. This mask has a great fit too and the mask is very soft and plush. After 40 minutes, I removed the mask and WHOA. This is a brightening mask for sure ~ My face was very bright and my skin tone was evened out. There was some essence but it absorbed quickly and my face feels cool and mattified too! So, oil control, face brightener and my face feels very hydrated as well. I love this mask! Two thumbs up and I found them on yesstyle, so I will purchase a box of them there soon. I translated the key ingredients from an online website

Acwell Drinks Purifying Mask (Korea) This mask is a soothing mask that helps with redness and balance your skin. These patterned textured masks are made from eucalyptus and this mask has no real scent that I can smell. The mask is thicker than most, in fact, it reminds me of Sewame that I used the other day, but it is soft and stretchy. There isn’t a lot of essence in this mask but due to the thickness of the mask, it doesn’t dry out quickly either. I thought this is supposed to an oil controlling mask, but I found this to be more of a very hydrating soothing mask. It has some lovely fermented ingredients ~ rice and soybean, to help moisture and deeply hydrate, willow bark, which is a BHA (beta hydroxy acid) and helps exfoliate skin by removing dead skin cells, contains salicylic acid, to help combat acne. It is also high in anti-oxidants, which tone and reduce inflammation as well as being an astringent, to control oil. It also has a lot of nice hanbang ingredients ~ just look at that ingredient list!! That said, I was totally meh about this mask ~ after I removed it, my face felt tacky and even after 20 minutes, it was sticky. I would have thought after using an AHA/BHA mask earlier, my face would be prepped to handle more moisture, but this mask leaves behind too much residue. I did purchase the other masks at Memebox from Acwell so I will review those as well to see if they differ in this respect. It isn’t a horrible mask, I am just lukewarm on it due to the excess tacky film on my face ~ perhaps if you have really dry skin, your skin would absorb the essence better.
Description: Help soothe tired skin and minimize facial redness caused by environmental exposure with this unique Drinks Purifying Mask from Acwell. Enriched with Eucalyptus extract, this mask gives a cooling sensation that helps relax exhausted and irritated skin. It also features natural, Korean-grown herbs that provide moisture relief to the skin. It helps balance moisture to the skin and provide a barrier to protect the skin from damage. My Beauty Diary (我的美麗日記) Strawberry Yogurt Mask (Taiwan) I love the weekends! It means that I am not pressed for time and I usually do masking in the morning and in the evening. Most days, I only apply one mask, but on the weekends, I can pamper my skin 🙂 If you have never tried MBD, you should ~ they are inexpensive masks that are really nice and many of them smell so good ~ like this one! This is a strawberry yogurt mask and it is for oil control and balancing of your skin. Strawberries are rich in anthocyanins, which help protect against oxidation (cell damage) caused by UV light and they also areas an antibacterial and astringent, to control oil and acne prevention. Strawberries nourish your skin with a slew of vitamins: A, B1, B2, B6, C and E, just among some of them and antioxidants, which helps prevent/reduce the signs of aging. Yogurt contains lactic acid, which is an AHA and is hydrating, an antimicrobial, helps brighten skin down and adjusts your skins pH level ~ lactic acid will also help to exfoliate and remove dead skin cells. I happen to really like this mask, not only for its scent, but its pleasant effects on my face. The mask fit is a standard MBD fit, which means it fits well, and the mask is drenched in the watery, strawberry scented essence. The masks in this series are made from tencel, which is a wood fiber pulp product. I usually leave on MBD masks for about 30 to 40 minutes. This mask really makes my skin feel smooth and there is an initial residue that quickly dries down and then my face is matte, brigher in skin tone, and any redness or swelling from blemishes is reduced. This is truly an oil controlling mask!! Great mask to use after the sticky Acwell one earlier today
Description: The natural strawberry extract in this mask is rich in fruit acids, minerals, and enzymes that brighten and soften the skin for a more youthful look. Combined with the active lactic acid ingredients from yogurt, the formula balances sebum production to shrink the appearance of pores and reduce the size and redness of blemishes. The mask also contains arbutin, a popular whitening ingredient that resists melanin and breaks it down beneath the skin for a brighter, more pearlescent complexion. With a sweet, fruity scent and instant results, this mask is all you need to improve your skin’s natural beauty.
Ingredients: Purified water, Glycerine, Propylene Glycol, Butylene Glycol, phenoxytheanol, chlorphenesin, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Triethanolamine, Fragariavria vesca(Strawberry) Fruit Extract, fragrance, polysorbate 20, Yogurt Extract, sodium hyaluronate, xanthan gum, Citric Acid, enantia chlorantha bark extract, hydrolyzed rice protein, dipotassium glycyrrhizate, Acer Saccharum (Sugar Maple) Extract, Arctostaphylos Uva Ursi (Bearberry) Leaf Extract, Citrus Anrantium Dulcis (Orange) Fruit Extract, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel Extract, codium tomentosum (green seaweed) extract, hydrolyzed soy protein, laminaria digitata (brown algae) extract, lecthin, Malva Sylvestns (Mallow) Extract, polysorbate 80, Saccharum Offìcinarum (Sugar Cane) Extract, Vaccinium Myrtillus Fruit Extract, carbomer, PEG-15 hydroxystearate, iodopropynyl butylcarbamate, Polyglutamic Acid, sodium hydroxide, sodium lactate, sodium PCA, Glycosphingolipids, tocopheryl acetate cosDNA.com analysis
My Scheming Deep Cleansing Pore Minimizing Mask (Taiwan) My Scheming has masks made from silk or cotton ~ the Skin Clarifying Astringent mask that I recently used was a silk mask and this one is 100% Japanese Cotton pulp. I do notice that even though both types of masks are soaked with essence, the silk ones really drip while the cotton ones do not drip as much. This mask features 3 ingredients
- 🍒 Acerola extract that boost collagen production to reduce fine lines.
- Licorice and Mulberry extract, an anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant, deep cleans and improves your skin condition.
- Gentianae Radix (Bitterwort) gives you a smoother, fairer complexion
This mask has pearl paper (a plastic layer) to help keep the mask shape and to aid you in applying the mask ~ even though it is cotton, it is fairly thin. I do not smell anything scent with this product, and the fit is excellent. After 20 minutes, I removed the mask and I did notice that my face looked brighter and it was moisturized, but matte (yeah, an oil controlling mask!). My pores also looked tighter (which I know is temporarily but I feel I have to say this every time. There is really nothing out there that will permanently tighten your pores…) Once again, I am impressed by the quality of My Scheming masks.
Description: The mask comprises of Gentianae Radix extract, mulberry extract, liquorice extract, acerola extract and protease which accelerate metabolism, renews aged skin (cuticles) and enhances nutrients absorption. It repairs all aspects of skin problems and give your skin brightness, lightness and fair skin.

Leaders StepSolution Pore-Scaling Black Aqua Mask (Korea) I have a lot of Leaders masks, it seems!! This is deep detox cleansing mask that also provides mositure and brightening. The black mask is infused with charcoal and it help remove excess oil and debris. This also has volcanic ash, which helps detox and purify your skin. Soybeans are my fav ~ they are an antioxidant and will help soften your skin and reverse free radical damage. Niacinamide will help brighten your skin tone and Houttuynia Cordata is an astringent and anti-inflammatory ingredient. Sugar Maple extract is a natural source of AHA, which will help remove dead skin cells. This mask is soaked with essence, just like all Leaders non-hydrogel masks. This is a very moisturizing mask and it does hydrate quite well. I left it on for 40 minutes, as it was such a wet mask! I don’t view it as much of an oil control mask, but it does leave my face fresh, moist and clean looking, and my pores look tigher. I do find that Leaders masks are really nice overall (I think I might have had a dud here and there), and one thing you can count on is that their cotton masks are really wet! Leaders has a 7-Wonders series and I am really interested in that…hmmm…

Innisfree It’s Real Squeeze Bija Mask (Korea) And I am finally rounding out my series of masks for oily skin, blemish prone skin and pore control (whew!!) I saved one of my absolute favorite masks for mattifying, oil control and reducing redness and swelling. This, along with Benton Snail-Bee, reign supreme for me! I always have a stack of these masks on hand as they work for me really well. What is Bija? Bija (Torreya Nucifera) is a part of the pine family and this evergreen tree grows in both Japan, known as Japanese Nutmeg-Yew, and on Jeju Island, where it is called Bija. This oil helps soothe skin that is acne prone or irritated and according to Innisfree, this ingredient can only be harvested once it has reached maturity at 20 years and its properties help enhance your skin’s natural defense system. Is there any truth to that? Well, there is a study that does show that Bija is an anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial and their findings do back up Innisfree’s claims that it helps with soothing your skin ~ “In conclusion, we have demonstrated that TEO (Torreya nucifera essential oil) has good anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory effects. Therefore, we suggest that TEO may be an effective therapeutic agent to promote skin health” This mask is made with a 3 layer of artificial silk, and not only contains Bija Oil, but the famous Innisfree Green Complex formula of green tea, tangerine, cactus, camelia leaves and orchid extracts, to help hydrate and enhance your skin’s complexion. It does have a slight scent that of pine, due to the Bija Oil, but it isn’t unpleasant or harsh. This mask is a very wet mask, with a lot of essence. I can usually leave this mask on for 20 to 30 minutes and when I remove it, my face is cleaner, not oily ~ but matte ~ not dry or stripped, but still moist, and any inflammation I might have had with blemishes are gone! This is a HG mask for me. I know, I know, it has alcohol in it. If you are sensitive to alcohol, then you should steer away from this and use the Benton Snail Bee (another HG mask for me). But I can tolerate it better as my skin is so oily. Two thumbs up!!
I am also using The Face Shop Raspberry Line & Lift Collagen Eye Patches, which are one of the best eye patches for firming and toning the under eye area that I have ever used! These are my HG eye patches and I usually leave them on for an hour until all of the gel is absorbed into my skin. I swear, this is like an instant eye lift, plus brightening. YYMV, but this is a product I don’t even want to be without!
