illi Hanbang Facial Sheet Mask Review Digest

I just finished my reviews on the illi Hanbang Facial Sheet mask series on IG and I like to put them into a digest on my blog, so you don’t have to search for each mask individually on IG.  illi is one of my favorite Korean brands and no wonder, it is part of the AmorePacific family which includes several of my favorite brands ~ Innisfree and Primera.   Final thoughts will be at the end of this blog post

I purchased my illi masks from eBay seller tada_yurici and I chose the variety pack, as I wanted to try all of the different types to find out which ones would be on a repeat purchase list for me.  There are 2 lines in the illi Hanbang series ~ a regular one, which includes Lotus Moisture, Mugwort Calming & Camellia Nourishing/Intensive Moisture  and the Total Aging Care line ~ Orchid Intense Hydration, Ginseng Firming, Green Tea Brightening & Cocoon Anti-Wrinkle

For those who do not know, Hanbang is the term for Oriental medicine, and in beauty products, it usually means herbal and plant extracts.

In the order I used these masks

Cocoon Anti-Wrinkle  Key ingredients are cocoon extract, ginseng extracts and job’s tears extracts.

I am now reviewing my Hanbang illi masks ~ I've tried a couple of them in the past & I really loved them! Thanks to a tip from my friend @asianbeautyja, I was able to get a variety pack off of #eBay. I think that #illi, which is a subsidiary of #pacificamore, has some of the nicest mask designs. This review is for the Anti-Aging Cocoon Anti-Wrinkle mask ☁ ☁☁ I really love the fit of this 2 piece mask! It is so different from other masks, the nose piece is like a bandage & it actually covers the sides completely. Also, notice how the top half extends down further than most 2 piece masks & same with the lower half, it extends upwards for more coverage on the sides as well. For people like me who have wide faces, this is an amazing mask, because it really covers my face nicely, plus some extra! The sheet is silky smooth & it reminds me of #primaryraw doyou 2-step mask with its texture. The essence is thicker than most & is a milky white, with a bit of a musty scent & the mask is soaked in it. It has a protective mesh that you remove once u apply to your face. After removing, my face looked brighter & skin texture was very smooth! My moisture level increased by almost 19% too, so this is a good hydrating mask. 💧💧💧. Two thumbs up for this mask👍👍👍👌👌 Ingredients: water, glycerin, butylene glycol, cyclopentasiloxane, PEG-32, hydrogenated polydecene, 1,2-hexanediol, phenyl trimethicone, silkworm cocoon extract, panax ginseng root extract, coix lacryma-jobi ma-yuen seed extract, sodium hyaluronate, phenoxyethanol, glyceryl stearate, PEG-100 stearate, polysorbate 60, acrylates/C10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, arginine, ethylhexylglycerin, hydroxyethyl acrylate/sodium acryloyldimethyl taurate copolymer, adenosine, disodium EDTA, alcohol, fragrance #kbeauty #koreanskincare #asianskincare #hanbang #illi #rasianbeauty #masks #maskaddict #facialmasks #mask #skincare #beauty #femalebblogger #instablog

Lotus Moisture  Main ingredients are Lotus flower extract, Korean Premium Ginseng.  When the description mentions mushrooms, they mean the beta-glucan ingredient.

This is a traditional one piece facial sheet mask. The mask material was a bit rough, not a lot of essence and the scent wasn’t that awful, but it was a strong floral. The fit of the mask was only okay. Not enough nose coverage, too much extra space everywhere else!! Very strange fit. I felt strangely unsatisfied using this mask as I expected more after the wonderful Cocoon mask I tried and didn’t feel the moisture! Lovely packaging, however, I do love the botanical print.

Ingredients: water, glycerin, butylene glycol, PEG-32, glycereth-26, panthenol, 1,2-hexanediol, polyphosphorylcholine glycol acrylate, arginine, PEG-60 hydrogenated castor oil, panax ginseng root extract, nelumbium speciosum (lotus) flower extract, phyllostachis bambusoides (bamboo) juice, beta-glucan, propanediol, ethylhexylglycerin, disodium EDTA, fragrance  cosDNA.com analysis

Ginseng Firming🌱 Key ingredients are Premium Korean Ginseng (of course), Soybean, Camellia Oil and Green Tea

I tried another illi #hanbang mask, this time from the total aging care line, Ginseng Firming. This is the same line as the Cocoon mask that I tried and loved. I was hoping, as this is part of the Total Aging Care Line of Hanbang masks, that this would be of the same material and fit as the lovely cocoon mask. Nope, this is a 2-piece hydrogel. I normally dislike hydrogels just because they are so slippery. This one wasn't as bad as some gels I have used as once I placed it on my face, it did stay put. However, the nose area coverage was very much lacking and the lower half of the mask was a totally bizarre fit. The first time I place it on my face, I thought I had it upside down, as the chin area was hardly there. I flipped it around and no, the first attempt at placing this mask on the lower half of my face was correct ~ there is NO CHIN to speak of in this hydrogel. This mask is for chinless people (and I have a small chin, so that cannot be the issue here)!! This has a nice light scent, similar to the illi total aging care cleanser that I love ~ it is supposed to be ginseng flowers. The hydrogel essence does absorb into my skin, as after 40 minutes, I was left with basically some mesh material, with just a thin coating of the gel. Did this firm my skin? Didn't really notice. It was cooling mask and my moisture level after I used this mask was at 49%. This is better than the Lotus mask I used yesterday, but nowhere near as nice as the cocoon mask. The fit of the #illi hanbang masks have been ALL over the map. They are so not similar and all of the materials so far have been different. Stay tuned for another quick review tomorrow. I am thinking….green tea! 🌱🌱🌱☕☕🌱🌱🌱 Ingredients: water, butylene glycol, glycerin, ceratonia siliqua gum, chondrus crispus (carrageenan), phenoxyethanol, PEG-60 hydrogenated castor oil, ethylhexylglycerin, disodium EDTA, potassium hydroxide, panax ginseng root extract, camellia japonica seed oil, natto gum, camellia sinensis leaf extract, fragrance #kbeauty #rasianbeauty #mask #femalebblogger #instablog #kbeautyblogger #koreanskincare #asianskincare #facialmasks #skincare #femalebeautyblogger

Mugwort Calming 🌿  Key ingredients are Mugwort, Korean Premium Ginseng

Tonight's Mask #illi #hanbang Mugwort Calming🌿 This is from the same line as the Lotus mask I used earlier, but the fit was totally different! This one did fit my face pretty well, the chin was a bit long, but better long than chinless (see illi Ginseng mask), the openings for eyes and mouth were not small & the nose area was somewhat covered (the tip of the nose could have been better). The mask wasn't overly wet with essence, but it was still moist after 30 minutes when I removed it & my moisture level was at 54%. The scent is was a nice light fresh herbal scent, very pleasing. My face felt very soft and satiny ~ it is so strange that the Lotus mask was such a horrid fit and this one was nice. I do like the Mugwort mask a lot despite that it is a more drier mask (I do like my masks "juicy"). The sheet itself is lacking, however. It feels almost like paper and you can see that it kinda doesn't "sit" flat on my face ~ that also could be because the mask isn't soaked in essence and it doesn't adhere that well. Key ingredients are: Mugwort is soothing, Mushroom (beta-glucan ingredient) hydrates, Korean Premium Ginseng will revitalize your skin. Ingredients: water, glycerin, butylene glycol, PEG-32, glycereth-26, panthenol, 1,2-hexanediol, polyphosphorylcholine glycol acrylate, arginine, PEG-60 hydrogenated castor oil, panax ginseng root extract, artemisia princeps (mugwort) leaf water, beta-glucan, propanediol, phenoxyethanol, ethylhexylglycerin, disodium EDTA, fragrance #KBeauty #kbeautyblogger #femalebeautyblogger #femalebblogger #rasianbeauty #masks #facialsheetmasks #instablog

Orchid Intense Hydration  Key ingredients are Orchid, Ginger and Pine Mushroom

Finally!! This mask is just like the wonderful Cocoon☁☁ Anti-Wrinkle mask from a couple of weeks ago. Same fit, same soft, silky plush mask. Light fragrance, not flowery. I was able to keep this on for 40 minutes and it was still somewhat moist when I removed it. I had an increase of 18% moisture when I removed this (and waited 2 minutes). So, not bad! I do love this mask fit ~ I gush over it too much, but I love how the nose piece comes across and over like a band-aid and since this is a 2 piece mask, they added extra coverage around the area, so it would overlap. My only complaint is the lack of mask material between the nose and upper lip. So far, the two winners in the illi Hanbang masks are the Cocoon and Orchid!

Ingredients: water, glycerin, butylene glycol, PEG-32, glycereth-26, panthenol, orchid extract,  panax ginseng root extract, tricholoma matsutake (pine mushroom) extract,  propanediol, 1,2-hexanediol, phenoxyethanol, PEG-60 hydrogenated castor oil, acrylates/C10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, arginine, ethylhexylglycerin, disodium EDTA, alcohol, fragrance  cosDNA.com analysis

Camellia Nourishing/Intensive Moisture  Main ingredients are Camellia oil from Jeju Island, Korean Premium Ginseng, Korean Soybean

I am back…with masking #instablog! I want to finish up my #illi series, as I only have 2 more masks to go – so, here it is…Camellia Nourishing/Intensive Moisture Main ingredients are Camellia oil from Jeju Island, Korean Premium Ginseng, Korean Soybean. So, when I mask, I basically cannot eat anything except for bite sized things. Like chocolate. Hence the chocolate in the photo as I did eat them while wearing this mask!! Some people drink while they mask, I eat chocolate ;D There are two lines in the illi Hanbang series ~ the Total Aging Care has a larger mask package and contains Cocoon (my fav so far), Ginseng (the worst one of the bunch for me), Orchid (nice, very similar to Cocoon) and Green Tea (still need to review) . The other line contains Lotus,Mugwort and Camellia and I have found that the Lotus was awful, and the Mugwort was much better. This is the final mask in the non-Aging line and I find this to be the best one out of those three. The mask is super soft and drenched with essence. I mean, really soaking with a thin whitish essence. The fit is really good, it covers my face well, with the nose area being the only complaint. The scent is a pleasant one ~ it reminds me of the beach ~ I swear it smells like coconuts to me! Or suntan lotion. This mask also has natto gum, which is fermented soybeans, and is highly moisturizing and nourishing to your skin. While wearing this mask, it has a cooling effect and I did love the delicate scent. I left my mask on for 50 minutes as it was such as wet mask!! This is really unheard for me with a fabric sheet mask. And the mask was still moist when I removed it. My face still was moist from the essence, it hadn't absorbed in completely, but it was not greasy or tacky. Within 5 minutes, it had absorbed and I did a moisture reading at that time ~ around 50%. Remember, it is cold now in New England AND DRY. With the central heat on, even drier. So I am pretty happy with those results! Two thumbs up for the Camellia illi Hanbang mask ~ so far, 4 out of 6 masks have been winners ~ cocoon, orchid, mugwort and camellia. My next mask will be the green tea from the Total Aging Care line.

Green Tea Brightening🍵  Green Tea, Soybean (natto gum), Ginseng and Camellia are all key ingredients

My final #illi #Hanbang mask ~ From the Total Aging Care line, Green Tea Brightening Mask! This has the same lovely fit as the Cocoon and Orchid masks (https://www.instagram.com/p/9rzjdOtyQE) and it is a two piece cotton mask, with that great nose flap. I wish more facial sheet masks would just do that "bandage-like" nose piece, as it covers the nose and side areas completely, no matter what size nose you have! This has a slightly herbal scent to it, more than the other masks in illi's hanbang line. This contains green tea, which is a powerful antioxidant to combat free radicals and help reverse some of their damage, plus niacinamide, which explains the brightening part of the mask. I love how this mask feels ~ it is such a soft, plush mask with lots of essence. After I removed it (40 minutes), I did a moisture level test – 54% moisture, 24% lipid (oil), so this is a nice hydrating mask (I am in the drier cooler months here ~ 54% is fantastic!) Does it brighten? I didn't notice a major difference, but then again, a couple of the products I have been using these past 6 weeks has noticeably brightened my face (look for reviews on my blog in the next week or so!!) So, other than the Ginseng mask in the Total Aging Care link, which I thought was a stinker due its fit (plus it is a hydrogel), I loved the cloth fabric ones ~ cocoon, orchid and green tea. From the normal illi hanbang line, the mugwort and camellia were winners as well. There are 7 masks in the illi hanbang line that I tried, and only two were substandard in my opinion – ginseng and lotus. I will have a digest of these masks on my blog, so you don't have to hunt around on my IG account for the reviews!

Final Thoughts

So, other than the Ginseng mask in the Total Aging Care link, which I thought was a stinker due its fit (plus it is a hydrogel), I loved the cloth fabric ones ~ Cocoon, Orchid and Green Tea, not only for its superior fit, but the wonderful plush feel of the masks themselves, and the lovely ingredients.  From the normal illi Hanbang line, the Mugwort and  Camellia were winners as well. Have you tried the illi Hanbang line?  What do you think of them?  I would love to hear from you!
