Mary&May Calendula Peptide Ageless Sleeping Mask Review

Mary & May is one of my favorite K-Beauty brands that is affordable and has various lineups. I love calendula and sleep masks, so it is only natural that I wanted to try the Calendula Peptide Ageless Sleeping Mask! I received this product from Jolse Cosmetic, a premier K-Beauty online store, complementary for review purposes.

Mary & May Calendula Peptide Ageless Sleeping Mask is a jelly sleeping mask pack that contains 2,200 ppm of real calendula petals suspended it a hydrating base. Calendula, or pot marigold, has one of the longest histories of usage of any herb in skin care. This herb, which is not to be confused with the flower marigold, helps heal chapped and irritated skin. It stimulates wound and burn healing and it helps reduce dermatitis. Calendula gets much of its healing properties from its high levels of carotenoids, a compound similar to Vitamin A. This also has antioxidant, antibacteria and anti-inflammatory guaiazulene, derived from chamomile. It helps to soothe, lessen swelling and redness while healing skin. The Peptide in the name stands for 25 different types of anti-aging peptides ~ here are some notable ones:

Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, which helps bind water to your skin, helps regenerate skin cells and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles; making your skin firm and retain moisture;
Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4 is a mixture of fatty and amino acids, stimulates collagen and elastic production, helping repair damage to your skin and reducing deep wrinkles and lines
Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5 (SYN®-COLL), helping to firm skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles, reversing sun damage, smoothing and refining skin and pores.
Anti-aging Acetyl Octapeptide-3 (SNAP-8) helps with relaxing facial wrinkles, and is more stable that botox and more effective than acetyl hexapeptide-3.
Copper Tripeptide-1 (GHK-Cu) aids in the production of glycosaminoglycans (GAGS) which help support and maintain the production of collagen and elastin, making your skin firm and retain moisture n anti-inflammatory.
Tripeptide 1 is a type I collagen fragment so it will help communicate to the skin to produce new collagen as old collagen breaks down. This helps with reducing and preventing wrinkles
Hexapeptide-9 is used as an anti-aging ingredient that helps reduce wrinkles as it is claimed that it can promote and aid in creating collagen.
Neuropeptide Nonapeptide-1 is for anti-aging, aiding and speeding up wound healing and reducing redness and inflammation.
Hexapeptide-2 is a synthetic peptide that contains the amino acids alanine, histidine, lytsine, phenylalanine, and tryptophane hexapeptide. It is used as a skin-conditioning agent in products formulated to reduce the appearance of aging.
Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 and Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1 which will help aid in collagen production, repairing wrinkles and skin issues.
Tripeptide-3 helps regenerate more collagen in your skin, so it boosts skin cell renewal. This is a good source for anti-aging and anti-wrinkle benfits It has good anti-aging and anti-wrinkle effects, and has been added in facial care, body care and color cosmetics products.
Tripeptide-2 helps mimic your skin’s own natural skin exfoliation effects, providing cellular turnover and renewal, resulting in smoother and radiant skin.

Also packed in this gelly goodness are hydrating humectant ingredients such as anti-inflammatory panthenol, helping cellular renewal, retaining moisture and hydrating the skin. It also is a good lubricant on the skin, making skin look soft and smooth. Amino acid humectant betaine is an anti-irritant, providing silky smooth skin and soothes and calms skin Glycerin helps with healing of wounds, is an humectant, sealing in moisture, maintains the skin’s water balance on an inter-cellular level, which makes the skin look healthy, moist (not dry and scaly), soft to touch, and is also an emollient, leaving your skin looking radiant and supple

This also contains ceramides, which are lipids (fats) and are important in helping to repair and protect your moisture barrier. Centella asiatica is a common herbal ingredient that is used medicinally to help speed up wound healing, such as blemishes and skin rashes. It also helps minimize the appearance of pores. Chamomile can calm down the skin and relieve redness effectively as it has antioxidant, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It helps to relieve skin issues and irritations because it soothes and lessens swelling and redness, while healing skin and stimulating cellular renewal. Feverfew, aka chrysanthemum parthenium, can help reduce redness and irritation. This does contain alcohol denat which I expect is to help keep the jelly texture from being too stiff; however, if you have drier skin, I do not recommend this mask for you. This is a vegan, cruelty free product

This comes in a frosted glass jar with a tin colored lid. This is such a pretty sleeping mask! The color is a pale light golden yellow and the texture is most definitely a jelly. I don’t really get much a fragrance from this other than a light alcohol scent, which makes sense as the second ingredient is alcohol.

This is very watery once it is applied on the skin and absorbs quickly without being sticky. Again, I attribute that to the alcohol in here. I make sure to put on some very moisturizing products first before I apply this sleeping mask, as I do not feel it is an occlusive mask, as I do not feel it provides a good barrier that locks moisture in. It is so lightweight, that I actually have used it as a hydrating serum step in my daily skincare routine. However, for hot, muggy nights, this works well as it adds another layer of hydration without clogging my pores.

I found that this was more of an anti-irritation sleep mask with lots of nice hydrating ingredients. As this does have alcohol in it, I do think that this is best suited for oily skin types who are not sensitive to alcohol in their skincare products. For me, this provided hydration and helping with my oiliness overnight and is a nice serum/moisturizer during the daytime!
