This month’s Flickerbox settled on a theme called “The Night Sky“, which is actually the 36th box that Flickerbox has curated. “The Night Sky” is a 3 year anniversary box and the founder of Flickerbox started her career in the candle industry when she was living in the World’s First Dark Sky City, Flagstaff, AZ. Candelaria Candles “Stardust” This is a beautiful candle! Stardust, a candle named in tribute to the late, great David Bowie and his alter-persona, Ziggy Stardust (Ziggy played guitar, jamming good with Weird and Gilly.. And the spiders from Mars) This is Candelaria’s number one seller and its scent is described as “Pink cotton candy, sweet lemon drops, raspberry, fig leaves, with warm caramel and hints of Sicilian orange, Lily of the Valley, & powdery vanilla musk. A seriously wonderful unisex fragrance.” I can smell the vanilla musk and sweetness to this candle. This is a 9 oz tumbler and it has a custom made coaster lid made from either maple or walnut hardwood (I think I have walnut) and it is made by Foxy Design Lab in Denver, CO, via laser cutting.
You can use these lids as coasters. Candelaria is located in Denver as well, and all of their candles are made in small batches, using hand poured 100% soy wax, sourced from American-grown soy beans. Soy burns clean, so it is eco-friendly. They use lead free cotton wicks, primed with vegetable based wax and use only premium grade blended fragrance and essential oils ~ no added dyes, lead or chemicals. Hearth & Hammer “Moonlit Moors” This is a “literary” candle, as it is inspired by the novel Wuthering Heights: “There was no moon, and everything beneath lay in misty darkness: not a light gleamed from any house, far or near all had been extinguished long ago.” Wuthering Heights, Emily Bronte. This is a warm floral scent ~ “The lovely mixture of violet, orris and musk flower combine to form a sweet overtone to a bodied musk; reminiscent of a dark night spent pining for your one true love ” and I love that I have another musky scented candle. The violet scent is very nice and I do think this is lovely scented candle. Hearth & Hammer is an etsy shop and their candles are all hand poured in small batches of 6. Made with all natural soy with a cotton wick, these are scented with the maximum amount of fragrance and essential oils. They do not use any UV stabilizers or additives, so the wax may discolor over time, so keep them away from windows and direct sunlight. Hearth & Hammer candles are vegan, cruelty free and all of their candle parts are from the USA. Wood and Wax Co “Moon Flower” I have received Wood and Wax Co candles before and they are great ~ however, this candle is going straight into the gift basket. It is strongly scented of jasmine and rose and I cannot tolerate those two scents. However, I know that many people LOVE it, so I won’t have a problem gifting this candle 😀 This is a hand poured soy candle with a American Hardwood wooden wick ~ “Moon Flower is a beautiful mixture of night blooming jasmine flowers and freshly trimmed rose petals. Jasmine flowers release their scent at night once the moon has come out, making this a very romantic scent for your home. This smells like a midnight stroll in the heat of summer with the person you hold dearest in your heart” Burn time is 40 hours 5 or 6 oz candle (this is not a 9 oz candle ~ it is too small and I did weigh it) RV $11.00
Despite being a box full of florals ~ I actually like 2 of the scents. The jasmine & rose candle is unfortunate to my nose, but I know someone who will love it ~ my mom!! She loved the jasmine candle from last year’s May Flower’s box too. I am not a huge fan of florals, so I am glad that most of the candles in this month’s box are ones that I can actually use. I also love Candelaria’s wooden coaster ~ that is such a cool idea! This box’s value is $57.00 and I paid $34.00 for my box, as I am on a month to month subscription and I am grandfathered in, so my shipping is included in the price tag. For new subscribers, you would pay the additional $5.95 in shipping.
