Jolse Cosmetic, a premier K-Beauty online store, sent me several of Moonshot’s facial primers for review purposes. These products will help even out skin tone and moisturize ~ Multi Protection UV Bouncer, Multi Protection UV Fixer and Tone Up Fixer. Fixers and Bouncers ~ sounds like a bar brawl scene! Moonshot is part of YG Entertainment’s beauty division, producing edgy products in keeping with their K-Pop line-up. In the past, Moonshot spokespeople included Big Bang, G-Dragon of Big Bang, Dara from 2NE1 and today, they have Lisa from Black Pink. They are a very hip and cool brand that needs to have more Western exposure!
Skin Type/Concerns: oily, blemish prone, aging concerns, pores, fine lines/wrinkles, hyper-pigmentation
I received these products complementary to review and was not paid. All reviews are my own honest opinion and I never have been asked to write copy for a brand. Multi Protection UV Bouncer SPF50+ PA+++ : UV Bouncer is more of a moisturizing primer than a concealing or blurring primer, as it is made up of more than 60% of moisturizing ingredients. . Made from Harrogate sparking water from the UK and Jeju oxygenated water, this water-based primer helps cools, moisturizes and refreshes the skin. This has four chemical UV filters: Homosalate(UVB) , Octocrylene (UVA/UVB), Octisalate (UVB) and Avobenzene (UVA/UVB) for invisible broad-spectrum protection from the rays.
Pentavitin (saccharide isomerate) helps to strengthen your moisture retention barrier and make sure your skin does not loose all of that hydrating water. This also contains patented Aquaxyl, a hydrating compound made from ingredients derived from vegetable origin sugars ~ xylitylglucoside, anhydroxylitol, xylitol and glucose. Aquaxyl will also reinforce your skin barrier function, limiting water loss in your skin and preventing skin dehydration on a cellular level.

The Multi Protections items are packaged in black tubes, with a pump applicator and UV Bouncer has white lettering on its tube. The color and texture is a white, lightweight lotion that doesn’t have a scent. I can really see how hydrating the UV Bouncer is after I spread it out on my skin, as it gets very watery. This feels nice on my skin, very refreshing, with no sticky or greasy residue. This one could be used as a sunscreen as there is no white cast, but it would be a waste of product. Just layer your sunscreen over this and enjoy the watery, cooling sensation on your skin. This is a hydrating makeup primer, so if you have matte products, I would recommend using this under them, as it leaves the skin hydrated, yet smooth.

Multi Protection UV Fixer SPF50+ PA+++ is a blurring primer that also evens out skin tones that are in the fair to medium range. This contains four UV filters: two mineral, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide for full UVA/UVB protection and two chemical filters Octinoxate (UVA/UVB) and Octisalate (UVB). This does have pigments of iron oxide in it, and along with the titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, this is a tone-up primer, that is slightly pigmented. This also has dimethicones, for a smooth, silky finish and anti-aging, yeast derived adenosine has anti-wrinkle and anti-inflammatory properties. This also as moisturizing ceramides and antioxidant vitamin E.
This has a slew of pretty botanicals in here: Cherry blossoms will provide soothing and hydration care, while lotus extracts are chock full of antioxidants to help with aging ~ antioxidants help combat free radicals and reverse some of the damage caused by it, such as hyper-pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles. Lotus is fantastic for those who are struggling with oily, blemish prone or clogged/large pores, as it purifies your skin ~ your pores will look smaller and tighter and since lotus contains AHA (alpha hydroxy acids), it will help gently exfoliate your skin, removing excess dirt, debris and oil, unclogging pores and stimulating cellular renewal. Nymphaea alba (water lily) is an anti-aging and anti-inflammatory ingredient, helping to soothe irritated skin while nourishing and moisturizing your skin. It has brightening properties and helps soften fine lines and wrinkles, as well aid in cellular turnover. Peach blossoms are an anti-oxidant, helping to combat free radical damage and reduce oxidation. Peach blossoms are full of vitamins A, B, C helping to prevent melanin production, which reduces hyperpigmentation.

This primer is for light to medium light skin tones, as it has a slightly pinkish shade, that blends into the skin nicely, giving my skin a brighter finish and evens out my skin tone. The finish is not matte, but it isn’t dewy, so I think this helps absorb oil as well. It has a creamy, lightweight texture, not much of a scent, and it does help blur fine lines, pores and dark spots. I like this one a lot, as I feel it works best as primer ~ it doesn’t have a sleek finish, but it does have a nice subtle blurring effect. If I am late to work, I will just slap this on and forgo my foundation, as it really does help even out my ruddiness.

Tone Up Fixer SPF 50+ PA++++ is a tinted sunscreen makeup base ~ aka primer. It has SPF50+ PA++++, due to the UVA/UVB filters of minerals zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, These two ingredients also put the “up” in Tone Up ~ this is a brightening product ~ not that it will, over time, lighten dark spots, but it will physically and temporarily brighten your skin. This does have vitamin C ascorbyl palmitate, but it is really far down the list and is not a key ingredient that Moonshot promotes with this product. This does have a lot of moisturizing ingredients, such as squalane, jojoba oil, sunflower seed oil and antioxidants vitamin E, along with hydrating humectant fructose that binds water to your skin. Carotolino is a compound of carrot root, carrot seed oil, beta-carotene and canola oil, which helps neutralize free radicals formed by blue light. The silica and ‘cones helps keep this product smooth on the skin. This is a cruelty free product.

The packaging is the bomb! This is part of the new Moonshot packaging and I love it! It is a s pink plastic pump tube with a cap, which dispenses the cream very nicely. Alas, this only comes in ONE shade: Apricot Beige ~ a light beige shade that is good for light to medium-light skin tones ~ this works out well for me but is quite limiting for Moonshot.
That said, I don’t think Moonshot is well known outside of S.Korea, although they should be ~ their lippies and cushions are amazing, but again, limited shades in their BB cushions too. This product is to be used after you apply sunscreen and before your foundation. In fact, you can skip foundation all together, if you are happy with the shade of the Tone Up Fixer. The fine particles are really adhesive, so this LASTS on your skin for a long time ~ it doesn’t fade quickly. That means any foundation you put over it will adhere to this base/fixer & have longer lasting power as well.
This has a matte finish, but it is not heavy ~ it is super pigmented, so you don’t need a lot of product, which is why I scoff at the sunscreen claims ~ you need more sunscreen on the face than this primer product can offer, as if I do the three finger method to apply like sunscreen, I would look like a ghost. As it is, my skin tone is a little bit brighter asa I am more conservative with this primer. I do blend it well in my skin and what I notice is that it does have full coverage, helping to hide redness, blur pores while moisturizing. If I wasn’t going anywhere, I would just use this to protect my skin as I think this does a nice job color correcting my skin. However, If I am going out, I would use a BB cream or foundation over it ~ and this product DOES help keep that foundation from fading too quickly, while providing a smooth finish. I didn’t find it drying at all, even though it looks like it could be with that beige-white cast to it. This is a major step up from the Multi Protection UV Fixer SPF50+ PA+++, which did even out skin tone and provide a bit of brightening ~ this truly provides a lot of skin brightening.
