Memebox SoothingSista X Eyeshadow Palette Review

I have been waiting for this palette for ages, it seems!  I really like SoothingSista (Stephanie) Collaborative Box and when I heard she was doing an eyeshadow palette, I was very interested in it.   I had ordered it and much to my surprise, Memebox also sent me one for review!  More at the end of my review on what I will do with my extra palette 🙂

Stephanie Villa AKA SOOTHINGSISTA has created 4 rosy brown shades to be worn day or night for irresistible eyes! Each shade has a smooth finish with double-coated pigment technology for long lasting color.  #eyelove SF Eyeshadow Quad includes essential colors of rose-hued neutrals that create versatile looks. SOOTHINGSISTA named each color after her favorite places of San Francisco, California.  Long-lasting, blendable formula with double coated technology. Paraben free. Cruelty free.  Made in the USA

“I wanted to choose colors in the rose family because it is a color family that works with many different skin tones. I wanted the colors to be wearable for day to night but also different from everyday nudes.”
– Stephanie-

This palette is a nice compact size, matte black with Soothing Sista’s logo and opens up to reveal the eyeshadows, plus a nice sized mirror and a crappy foam brush, which you should just toss out.  The palette is sturdy and has a nice weight to it, while being slim enough to tuck into a small purse.

This is a lovely neutral palette that uses the rose/pink family to “liven” it up from just being another brown palette.  The photo on the left looks more rose than on the right and that is due to the plastic sheet that is sitting on top of the colors ~ the light reflected off of the plastic protector.   The colors are very much like the ones on the right hand side.

Sutro ~ “Light dusty rose matte”  This to me is more of a light taupe that has a pinkish cast to it.   This is a good color as an eyelid base.  This is named after a ruin in San Fransisco that Stephanie loves to visit and is part of the Golden Gate National Recreational Area

The Sutro Baths were a large, privately owned swimming pool complex near Seal Rock in San Francisco, California, built in the late 19th century. The facility was financially unprofitable and is now in ruins.  (source)

Valencia ~ “Medium pinky-brown matte”  This is getting more into the pink color, but it is a light milk chocolate with a pink cast to it.  This is good for contouring.   Valencia is a street that Stephanie lived on in San Fransisco.

Now: Valencia Street runs parallel to Mission Street, one block over, and they could be versions of each other in alternate universes. In the Valencia universe, the hipsters arrived to rule with a chimeric hand. Don’t stop until you’ve at least seen Clarion Alley, just south of 17th Street.  Then: The Valencia corridor has undergone dramatic revival since the decline of the neighborhood in the 1960s.  (source)

Candy Rain ~ “Metallic rose shimmer with silver micro-glitter”  This is just gorgeous!  This is a deep rose with silver shimmers.  The glitter is very fine, so it doesn’t really look like a glitter, but a lovely shimmery shade.  This can also be used as a contour shade.  Candy Rain is one of Stephanie’s favorite events in SF ~ it looks to be a legendary R&B, hip-hop, rap dance party!  Hard to say, as there are a lot of Candy Rain events in SF!!

Bae Area ~ “Metallic pink shimmer with iridescent glitter”  This is the lightest color and can be used as a highlighter.  It is very much a glitter and has quite the fallout.  It is a beautiful light pink glitter.  And of course, Bae Area is for Bay Area 🙂

All four of these colors are very wearable ~ I love a nice neutral palette and I also love rose colors too.  The 2 matte shades are more taupe/brown than pink/rose, but the shimmer shades are truly rose and pink shades! Bae Area is the shade with the most fallout and the matte shades do not have any fallout at all.   I really like this palette a lot and feel that all of these colors will also work nicely with the original Pony Palette, which I adore!   I think Stephanie did a great job with these colors and I am very pleased with all of these colors.

These swatches were done with 2 swipes, using no primer and my finger to apply to my arm.  I am showing two photos because I had different lighting conditions.

  1. Sutro
  2. Valencia
  3. Candy Rain
  4. Bae Area

  1. Great Review! I’m really loving this palette too- I think it’ll be my go-to for my eye looks for work. It’s subtle enough to be appropriate for day time but you can still pull off a really gorgeous eye look with it! Plus the pinks will look amazing with my blue contacts! 😉

  2. I want to try one of the palettes Memebox has released, but they’re all neutral and I already have 3 neutral shadow palettes. I wish they would come out with something with a little more color. #kbeautybloghop
