Ginger Mania Review! Aritaum Ginger Sugar: Lip Scrub, Lip Mask Treatment, Lip Balm, Tinted Lip Balms

Innisfree made me do it.  I saw this on Innisfree’s IG account

and not only did I hunt them down until I owned two of them

I found other ginger products, of which Aritaum Ginger Sugar line caught my eye.   I love ginger, fresh ginger, pickled ginger, powdered ginger, crystallized ginger (if you haven’t eaten any crystallized ginger and like a bit of sweet/heat/spice, give this a try!), so of course I want ginger on my lips.  I honestly do not need any more lip balms and I make my own lip scrub, but well, you  know, its GINGER!!   I also know that ginger is packed with essential oils and antioxidants, so it would help reverse any free radical damage.

Aritaum Korean website nicely displays the ingredients list in Korean text, so I can easily translate 🙂

Exfoliating, Hydrating and Overnight Lip Treatments

Ginger Sugar Lip Scrub  The secret to great lips is that you need to exfoliate and give a deep hydrating treatment to your lips.   You don’t want an abrasive scrub, but then again, you don’t want a waxy scrub that does nothing (PureSmile, I am looking at you).   First off, let’s get something clear with these products.  NOT ONE OF THEM smells or tastes like ginger.  You can imagine my shock to discover that ginger is one of the LAST ingredients in the product ~ seriously, you cannot label a product “GINGER” and then not have it taste or smell like it!

This scrub does contain 20% sugar granules, powdered walnut shells ~ you can see the little bits in the scrub and shea butter, olive oil and jojoba oil to not only help exfoliate (sugar, walnut) but to deeply moisture your lips.  It isn’t a harsh scrub and it smells faintly herbal ~ I think it is citronella.  It does have a slightly sweet taste due to the sugar and contains no synthetic fragrances or artificial coloring.

It does serve its purpose as a really nice and gentle exfoliating lip scrub.

Ingredients: Di-isostearyl malate, sucrose, microcrystalline wax, mineral oil, dipentaerythrityl Hexahydroxystearate/Hexastearate/Hexarosinate, Dipentaerythrityl Tri-Polyhydroxystearate, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, jojoba esters, paraffin, silica, polyethylene, butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter,Hydrogenated Castor Oil Isostearate, Juglans Regia (Walnut) Shell Powder, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Glyceryl Caprylate, tocopheryl acetate, citus auantium bergania (bergamot) fruit oil, Cymbopogon Nardus (Citronella) Oil, citrus aurantium dulcis (orange) peel oil, citrus limon (lemon) peel oil, Litsea Cubeba Fruit Oil, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Oil, Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Root Oil  cosDNA.com analysis

Ginger Sugar Essential Lip Balm  Aritaum has two “clear” lip balms, one in a stick and the other in a tube.  I happen to like tube lip balms for overnight treatments and since I was getting a couple of the tinted lip balm sticks, I went with the Essential Lip Balm.  This is a nice, thick, syrupy texture that is   tasteless and scentless.  It will keep my lips moisturized and it contains some really good emollients and moisturizing ingredients with mineral oil, shea butter, vitamin E and murumuru seed butter.  If I wanted a lot of shine, I could wear this during the day over my lips (naked or with lipstick) as it is a very glossy product.  It isn’t really sticky or tacky and my hair doesn’t stick to my lips! ahaha

Ingredients: diisostearyl malate, polybutene, phytosteryl/isostearyl/cetyl/stearyl/behenyl dimer dilinoleate, phytosteryl isostearyl dimer dilinoeate, hydrogenated polyisobutene, dextrin palmitate/ethylhexanoate, mineral oil, butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, glycerin, tocopheryl acetate (vit E),  astrocaryum murumuru seed butter, triethylhexanoin, beeswax, caprylic/capric triglyceride, euphorbia cerifera (candellia) wax, dimethicone, hydrogenated styrene/isopene copolymer, sucrose tetrastearate triacetate, butylene/ethylene/styrene copolymer,  ozokerite, polyethylene, polyhydroxystearic acid, polyglyceryl-2 dipolyhydroxystearate, disteardimonium  hectorite, sorbitan isostearate, isopropyl palmitate, isosteraric acid, lecithin, ethylhexyl palmitate, dehyroacetic acid, BHT, polyglyceryl-3 polyricinoleate, trehalose, zingiber officinale (ginger) root extract, citrus aurantium dulcis (orange) peel oil, citus auantium bergania (bergamot) fruit oil,    citrus limon (lemon) peel oil  cosDNA.com analysis

Ginger Sugar Overnight Lip Mask  This lip mask is for overnight use only and WOW, is it ever moisturizing and healing.  If you have really bad chapped lips, this is the product for you.   According to Aritaum, this overnight treatment will keep your lips moisturized for 24 hours, increases moisture on your lips by 17.5% (I haven’t tested this yet!) and 22.8% of dead skin cells on the lips will be removed after 24 hours.

This is a sleeping pack and contains shea butter, beeswax, murumuru butter ~ which creates a “film” on your lips to lock moisture in and contains no synthetic fragrances or artificial coloring.  Actually, it smells and tastes like nothing (if I had a sad face to insert, I would do so)  It also has the powerful antioxidant of vitamin E and orange, lemon and bergamot essential oils.   The Lip Mask looks very solid in the container and almost looks like a balm type of product.  However, once, I stick my finger into the Lip Mask, the texture is like honey, very sticky and adheres to everything.    How I use it is that when I put my facial sleep pack on, which is about 30 minutes before bed, I put this lip mask on as well, giving it time to absorb a bit.  A little goes a long way and it really soothes and heals my chapped lips and it does keep them moisturized.  This product is perfect for this season, as you know, Winter Is Coming.  This container is pretty big at 25 grams.

Why have both an essential lip balm and the sleep pack?  The sleep pack is for when my lips are in dire trouble and need some major help.  The essential lip balm is normal night time use, and can also be used during the day, unlike the sleep pack/lip mask.

Ingredients: polybutene, dextrin palmitate/ethylhexanoate, phytosteryl/isostearyl/cetyl/stearyl/behenyl dimer dilinoleate, diisostearyl malate, phytosteryl isostearyl dimer dilinoeate, hydrogenated polyisobutene, mineral oil, butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, microcrystalline wax, glycerin, euphorbia cerifera (candellia) wax, tocopheryl acetate (vit E), astrocaryum murumuru seed butter, triethylhexanoin,  beeswax, caprylic/capric triglyceride, dimethicone, hydrogenated styrene/isopene copolymer, sucrose tetrastearate triacetate, butylene/ethylene/styrene copolymer, ethylene/propylene/styrene copolymer, polyethylene, ozokerite,  polyhydroxystearic acid, polyglyceryl-2 dipolyhydroxystearate, disteardimonium hextorite, sorbitan isostearate, isopropyl palmitate, isostearic acid, lecithin,  ethylhexyl palmitate, dehyroacetic acid, BHT, polyglyceryl-3 polyricinoleate, trehalose, zingiber officinale (ginger) root extract, citrus aurantium dulcis (orange) peel oil, citus auantium bergania (bergamot) fruit oil,  citrus limon (lemon) peel oil  cosDNA.com analysis

Tinted Lip Balms

Aritaum has 3 tinted lip balms ~ No 1 Flame Rose, No 2 Lovely Pink and No 3 Dreaming Coral.  As I don’t want a pink lip balm, I did purchase No 1 & No 3.   They also  have a clear lip balm as well.

Their tinted lip balms contain squalane which is considered a NMF (natural moisturizing factor) and it mimics our own structure of healthy skin, allowing your skin to regenerate and heal.  Squalane is a great emollient with antioxidant properties.  It also contains highly moisturizing castor oil, shea butter and murumuru butter, which will lock in the moisture on your lips, as well as antioxidant Vitamin E.  These tints are very sheer and natural looking.

And they don’t smell or taste like anything.  They are, however, not sticky or tacky, very moisturizing and silky on the lips

Ginger Sugar No 1 Flame Rose (red)  This is a sheer red, which is just so nice! I can see myself using this lip balm for the upcoming Holiday season and I just want a sheer wash of red tint on my lips. It is not a cranberry deep red, as the advert below displays.  My swatch is the correct shade.

Ingredients: caprylic/capric triglyceride, squalane, hydrogenated castor oil isostearate,  astrocaryum murumuru seed butter, paraffin, bis-diglyceryl polyacyladipate-2,  diisostearyl malate, acrylates/stearyl acrylate/dimethicone methacrylae copolymer, pentaerythrityl tetraisostearate, HDI/trimethylol hexyllactone crosspolymer, mica, tocopheryl acetate, ethylene/propylene copolymer, synthetic wax, sucrose tetrastearate triacetate, citrus aurantium dulcis (orange) peel oil, citus auantium bergania (bergamot) fruit oil, citrus limon (lemon) peel oil, polyglyceryl-2 trissostearate, CI 15850, methicone, silica, CI 77491, CI 45380:2, CI 15985, butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, zingiber officinale (ginger) root extract, trehalose  cosDNA.com analysis

Ginger Sugar No 3 Dreaming Coral (peach)  This is a very sheer peach shade.  Not my favorite color, but I do like to branch out a bit.  Since it is so sheer, this is almost like a colorless lip balm 🙂

Ingredients: caprylic/capric triglyceride, squalane, hydrogenated castor oil isostearate, paraffin,  astrocaryum murumuru seed butter,  bis-diglyceryl polyacyladipate-2, acrylates/stearyl acrylate/dimethicone methacrylae copolymer, pentaerythrityl tetraisostearate, diisostearyl malate, HDI/trimethylol hexyllactone crosspolymer, mica, tocopheryl acetate, ethylene/propylene copolymer, synthetic wax, sucrose tetrastearate triacetate,Titanium dioxide (CI 77891), citrus aurantium dulcis (orange) peel oil, citus auantium bergania (bergamot) fruit oil, citrus limon (lemon) peel oil, polyglyceryl-2 trissostearate, CI 15985, CI 15850, methicone, silica, CI 77491, CI 45380:2, polyhydroxystearic acid, butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, zingiber officinale (ginger) root extract, trehalose cosDNA.com analysis

All in all, I think the winners are the lip mask and the tinted lip balm in Flame Rose.  The other items are solid performers, but since they do not smell or taste like ginger, I won’t repurchase them.  I will repurchase the lip mask and maybe the lip balm ~ I have so many tinted lip balms, I would be hard pressed to go back to this one.  I like Burt’s Bees tinted lip balms better as they at least taste nice. A product with GINGER in its name should taste  like ginger, have the heat of ginger, but these did not.  So sad.  These products will all be used, but I won’t repurchase as I have so many lip balms right now and since I make my own lip scrub,  I will add ginger powder in my next batch 😀

Have you tried any of the Aritaum Ginger Sugar products?  Any favorite Aritaum lip products I should know about?

  1. I actually have the ginger scrub and not sure how I feel about it. I’ve been using it for two weeks and my lips feel very nice after use. However, it’s back to being chapped by the next day :< I tried purchasing the lip mask as well but it was sold out, so I need to find somewhere else that has it! It seems like the mask is the key haha
